My 13 year old daughter has gastroperisis. He Dr told me to up her fiber and stay away from meat. I told him straight to his face. Gastroperisis causes the stomach to not empty or empty very slow. You want me to stuff her full of fiber which takes the longest to leave the stomach? Then I told him I changed her diet to carnivore. The look on his face!!!!! I said meat leaves the stomach much faster than fiber. Her symptoms are gone. Why would I put her back on fiber, carbs etc. He had no answer. At the end of the visit he said he was going to look into carnivore more. He was amazed she was better. She would vomit all day everyday. It was horrible. 4 years later she's still good!!!! No vomiting. No gerd!

I started a carnivore diet in February and stopped both my pills in the last month. Last week I was away and had some sugary alcohol drinks and my GERD returned with a vengence, it took about 3 days to calm back down. I cannot believe after all these years ( I am now 58) that I am no longer dependant on the drugs. So I’m eating off my walnut tree, my chestnut tree, my apple tree(oh and apples stop heartburn fast I ate 2 from my neighbors tree and it stopped instantly) apple pectin tablets works when you can’t get fresh apples(store bought does NOTHING , but fresh off the tree does) no pesticides on fresh apples. Or preservatives to keep them red. I’m going to pick dandelions tomorrow from my yard and make tea…it’s soooo good. I had GERD for several years. Hated taking prescription medication for it. I have been GERD free for over six months by doing these three things: 1). Follow a strict ketogenic diet 2). Every morning drink the juice of one lemon mixed with two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar in 16 oz of water. At first it tastes but you will get used to it. 3). Put a block of 2x4 under each leg at the head of my bed. It was not noticeable when I would sleep, but gave enough elevation where it made a huge difference in my reflux level at night.

Bless you for calling out your medical contemporaries on the concept of "doing no harm". At age 74, I look back at my interactions with mainstream doctors. Almost everyone of them has caused me harm. I started keto approximately 6-7 years ago. I used to have heartburn and acid reflux almost every day for YEARS beforehand. I didn't see a doctor for it because I'm very much against big pharma. I had lost all faith in medical practice because and medication many years beforehand. I had undiagnosed hypothyroidism for twenty years after my oldest son was born, which I finally had diagnosed when I found out that I had thyroid cancer. After my thyroid and a 6cm (larger than a cue ball) nodule was removed, I thought I might finally be able to lose some weight. (I weighed in around 350) Just as before, I did everything that the doctors said to do, and still couldn't lose weight. Finally, I decided to have barbaric surgery. I thank God that I was required to take 6 months of nutrition classes before the surgery. The nutritionists there basically taught keto without calling it keto. Within those six months, I lost 70 pounds. I realized that I didn't need to risk surgery; I could do it on my own. Something else that I realized, a couple months in, was that my heartburn had gone away. Now, the only time I get heartburn is when I get off track and go back to eating carbs again. I have told many who suffer from acid reflux and heartburn about my own experience and they typically reply that they have medication for it. (that obviously isn't working if they merely have LESS issues with it) Thank you so much for posting this video, doc! I now have something concrete to present to my friends, family, and coworkers! By the way, I lost 170 pounds with keto. After the 6 months of nutrition classes ended, I turned to the internet and found you. I can't thank you enough foe posting all of these life saving videos.

I had GERD years ago, and was on one of those awful meds. Told I had to give up coffee, which was unimaginable. This was long before I knew about the benefits of a low-carb diet. But what it did do was stop eating after 9pm; this pretty much resolved my GERD (which wasn’t yet severe). My point is, for those not quite ready to make dietary changes, try changing your eating habits. Do a 12:12 fast schedule, stop eating at least 3 hours before going to bed, minimize snacking.

Been eating “with him” to pare down the non-carnivore (but keto) food we have in the house, and unfortunately I recently decided to “what the heck, I’ll try it” my friend’s kombucha even though it’s full of fruit carbs… “what the heck, how much will it hurt” to another friend’s chili with lots of beans, and finally a “what the heck, just a little” to some actual sugar-based chocolate covered almonds someone gave me for Christmas, all because “I’ll be full on carnivore next week”. Next week starts NOW. The gerd attacks have been ferocious!!!!

@jacobstravailI have found that simply raising the head of the bed about 6 inches goes a long way toward keeping the reflux from happening. I tend to sleep on my left side. But either side is ok. The angle created by raising the bed is enough to keep the acid from backing up into the esophagus. It might take a little getting used to the new angle of the bed. But once you’re in bed, you don’t really notice it.

Glad to finally be able to share this with statistical support. I stumbled into keto 8 years ago before it became a fad and I was taking a PPI daily. I was young and just assumed that reflux was a fact of being “older @30 😅”. I ran out of nexium and like normal I would go a few days without needing this drug and then my reflux would return. However, after 3 months I realized I didn’t need my daily nexium anymore and haven’t taken it for 8 years now. That was when I realized keto was something more than a fad. Fast forward to today and I’m dealing with a father suffering from esophageal cancer and he has been taking nexium for 25 years to mask his GERD. He’s now following keto/carnivore in an attempt to “starve” his cancer along with radiation and chemo. It’s sad that medical professionals do not understand more about the proper human diet.

@@brianpulley8652 I am so sorry to hear of your problems. I too was suicidal for a long time. I did not see the point of living through all the health issues I had but I prayed to God to show me the pathway to healing myself. I have learned tons since then. After I stopped taking Nexium I had to rely on baking soda or eat way less so there would not be so much pressure on my stomach. It took about 3 months for the problems of hypoglycemia to settle down. Nexium type drugs makes a body more susceptible to pancreas disorders. My glucose levels would stay high and yet if I did not eat a good amount of protein I would end up with hypoglycemia. It was a crazy ride. After I quit Nexium, I think it took about 3 months to settle back to a normal. On the carnivore diet I have no heartburn or stomach issues anymore at all. It is hard to stay strict to carnivore so once in a while I will have some cabbage in the form of cole slaw made with 0 carbs using stevia lemon juice and mayonaise. I also have it fried in butter with Montreal Steak seasoning and fried bacon added. I also have a few green beans occasionally and once in a great while a couple spears of asparagus or broccoli. That is it. I am feeling the fatigue leaving the longer I am on this diet and I had extreme fatigue every day. I would wake up just as tired as when I went to bed the night before. Life was a drag. Most of our emotional well being comes from our gut. I highly recommend Plain Kefir even though it has 9-12 grams of carbs per cup full it is well worth the health benefits in the long run. If that is all you are getting with your carnivore diet then it is not enough to keep you from losing weight. I have no gall bladder so I have to take a supplement to digest the fats. I know this is lengthy but just want you to know you can heal yourself. Just do the research and ask God to guide you according to what your body needs.

I was diagnosed with GERD early 2023. You are right! I was told to eat more plant based and lots of fiber, also to keep acidic foods to a minimum and was prescribed PPI's. I had been vegan for over 5 years, but was a junk food vegan. I started doing my own research to heal my body and kept seeing KZbin videos on healing GERD with a Keto Diet. I was not very motivated to do that since Keto contained all the items I was being told not to eat and I was still of the belief that Veganism was the healthiest for all humans. I started introducing meat into my diet through a series of events I won't bore you with but found that I felt much better eating meat. In fact the more meat I ate the better I felt. 10 months later and I only have GERD symptoms if I eat Cayenne Pepper or really peppery spiced items or honey. For the most part I eat Keto and occasionally low-carb. To put it mildly, I am annoyed that many doctors and medical publications are encouraging us to eat high carb to tackle issues like GERD. That is NOT what worked for me. Keto is what worked.

A tip to anyone on the carnivore diet who still can't get rid of gerd- that was my situation until recently. Turns out, once you go strict zero carb, your body sometimes gains sensitivities to things you maybe weren't sensitive before, or maybe they just get unmasked as your overall state of health improves. In my case, it turned out to be eggs. Eggs seem to be the thing that caused my nightly reflux. It sucks, I love eating eggs, but it is what it is. Thankfully it seems a bit of cheese and coffee does not trigger it, I've been reflux free for about a week now after cutting out eggs.

I had a really good energy boost and lost 10 lb within 2 weeks and the gerd never returned. Now I recently found out about oxalates, which could be the reason why I've had all kinds of pain over the last 14 years and recently lost my gallbladder in January (that I think was due to eating so much spinach packed into my pitchers of smoothies everyday, along with a lot of white potatoes, nuts etc). I've been doing Keto for over 6 months now; 3 months ago I quit taking the omeprazole and have only experienced mild heartburn a handful of times. Now I just take a pepcid ac tablet on the rare occasions I get a little heart burn. I'm done with that RX.

How are you doing now? Are you still doing carnivore, are you still having issues
@joecali94617 күн бұрын
@@jessie9653 I'm doing fine. I'm not carnivore though, more like Ketovore. I keep my carb intake very low, like maybe 20-25 a day. Still not taking any meds. I did gain a little weight over the past couple of months, like 10 lbs from a kitchen renovation that took about 4 weeks and then Thanksgiving with guests. So I was off plan a bit. But since 2020 I have been mostly on plan eating mostly meat and some green veggies.

You’re my go to Doctor Berry… love this. Have a friend who has sooo many things (bad) going on with her body, and many surgeries, shoulder, knee, toe, etc… She eats tons of home grown veggies, makes her own sour dough bread, basically she tries very hard to eat “well”. Eat “Whole Foods”. Which is just a bs word that we know doesn’t work. Now she has admitted to GERD. Great cook, she’s Greek and truly makes amazing food but always something negative going on with her body. It’s really bad, I worry. Im rambling! Anyway I follow you because I have been on Carnivore for a year now and you were a huge influence on that decision. Really just want to thank you for all you do to help people get healthy and the Carnivore way is a beautiful thing.

Ok I will give it a try. I have been on a dirty Keto diet for a year and a half, lost 80 pounds so far, still need to loose 70 more but am still taking Omeprazole. I will stop all sugar and start cutting back on my Omeprazole. I will let you know if it works for me. I probably should have done it a year ago!

Proof in my own doing - very low carb diet and now no more heartburn, acid reflux for me. It took a few months but now I’m acid reflux free 😊👍 I had no choice but to get away from the inflammation causing bc I have Meniere’s Disease. So I cleared up my rosacea, most of my keratosis Polaris and my acid reflux. And I’ve went from 220 to 160 and still losing (I’m 5’6” medium build) so yup sugar is definitely evil!! Yes, definitely follow Ken Berry, he’s the absolute best 😊👍👍👍👍👍

I had GERD really bad and could not sleep without an Omeprazol before bed. 2 1/2 years into keto and haven’t had a single episode. Not even once, in 2 1/2 years! This was just one of the added benefits to a low carb diet for me. 0 meds for anything needed anymore for me.

I had GERD for 20 years! It got to a point that freaking water gave me heartburn! Turns out I had low GOOD gut bacteria. Now, I eat more pro & prebiotics. Of course I stay away from SUGAR & Late night eating. Never a problem! If I do have an episode, I eat 2 or 3 heaping fork full of Sauerkraut or Kimchi and within 15 minutes heartburn is history!

I have had similar results. Processed foods, sugar, alcohol and coffee were all triggers for me as well as too much meat. The game changer was working on repairing my damaged gut protective barrier and microbiome. Vitamin B complex and no fluids for an hour before and after meals along with a very diverse mix of mostly raw vegetables, animal protein and fermented foods, pre/probiotics....after trying every type of diet with little success this has been the best combination for me.

I started keto a month ago and my GERD is gone. I think a part of the problem is that all the fixes for it have been an attempt to control acid production or to not provoke more acid creation. With a high protein diet, you need a lot of stomach acid. Meat, chicken, fish, all of these soak up acid and keep the stomach busy digesting. It can't afford to start shooting acid up your esophagus! Thanks for all you do Dr. Berry!

If my head rolled off the pillow during the night, my stomach acid would tip into my airway on a regular basis… Very scary and painful. Felt like I was drowning…in acid! ☠️ Since keto/low carb, gone.👍🏻

I struggle to digest meat and fat due to my stomach issues such as GERD and possibly ulcer. I tried to eat burger and egg fried in butter and it was like I swallowed a rock and the pain was very bad along burning feeling like I was going to combust. My galbladder also started hurting. I took some antacids but it barely helped. Pepermint makes me hurt more. I would like to do the carnivore diet but it seems I can't. I am taking Omeprazole 20mg. Coffee also causes problems and increases stomach pain. I need coffee 1x per day as it helps me to be regular. I don't know what to do. I tried Keto before and it has many benefits but high fat diet causes me to have fatty stools and some fat stores under my skin as white dots. I don't want this.

@@starkiss77 typically when I see people say similar things like this, I typically hear it is recommended to try modified keto/carnivore where you eat a bit less fat around the moderate range and increase slowly or stay moderate and use more leaner cuts of meat, avoid any veggie oils as source of fat and possibly increase veggies for the time being and if you're not already I hear a lot say exercise starting with light exericise and keep stress under control. For me diet is a very big likely culprit, but it seems my trauma and anxiety are the primary culprits for me. I was fine until I had a bad traumatic event that set me off nearly 2ish months after, but to be fair I started eating whatever I wanted and justified I deserved it because I was feeling down. I'm seeing a therapist now for the first time in my life and I'm cutting back on carbs now, I'm not yet keto (which I have tried in the past). Could try what I'm doing this time around, I'm just starting by cutting out added sugar and processed foods as much as I can. I cut cold turkey last few times I've done low carb and it was okay for first day or two, then I felt miserable physically and psychologically and felt deprived.

I actually just recently figured this out by default. I wondered why I was having such frequent reflux. I always go to a pretty clean diet regardless and I have to stick to gluten free. So I avoid corn and soy and sugar also, for obvious reasons. But when on a higher carb diet, I immediately have the reflux no matter what I eat in terms of carbs. But when I switched back to carnivore or keto, the reflux is non-existent. Now when I go to things like church potluck or family get together so and have to eat carbs (because I don't want to be that person who can't eat anything there), then the reflux comes right back and I can't keep anything down. So I thought it was just me personally and sugar or carbs not agreeing with me to the point of gagging, but if the research shows a pattern, I'll second that!

Be “that” person who prioritizes their health and ease of their body over what people will think of you. Seriously, do you want to waste your health trying to impress persons who would say things behind your back like, “Ohmigosh, did you see her? Not eating food that’s poison to her?” Or, “the poor thing, not suffering with a spike in blood glucose” Sounds silly to me 😜 Be honest about your situation, there’s bound to be others who need to avoid the crap too. Do the world a service and be yourself so those persons can be themselves and take care of their health too. Best of luck!

I had acid reflux. it started 25 years ago. Before I took the meds that was offered, I did a study. I found that acid reflux began with the automobile. With the automobile came the cafe along the road. The cafe didn't want the consumer to sit waiting so they began bringing the salad and drinks first. Putting salad and drinks in the belly before the protein caused the stomach acid to be diluted so that the protein could not be broken down when it was placed into the stomach last. Heartburn. By ending all fluids and carbs before protein, I lost all heartburn instantly. I have now the need to end fructose intake for other reasons, but to end my heartburn I did not change the fructose intake. Sugar is half sucrose and fructose. Don't let cafes ruin your health.
