When I encountered 'reverse shaping' instead of the actual line by line instructions in a pattern, it totally confused my brain - your explanation helped me immensely to figure it out. Thank you so much. I am very happy that you took the time to post this information.

Thanks for watching the video. This sweater pattern uses "K2tog" and "SSK" decreases, which are very frequently used as opposites because of their slants. You're right when pointing out that they don't look exactly the same, but that has a lot to do with the individual knitter and his or her tension while knitting. One person's SSK might look more loose than her K2tog, but it's not actually a mistake.

I would think this would be a better instruction video if you had shown us the changes as you went along in the knitting of this project. I personally agree with sunshinecreations when they post and say the sides do not match and I (am a new to knitting too) would be embarrassed to say I knit this piece, it just looks as if someone didn't really pay attention while working. Maybe I am just expecting too much from a BerrocoKnitsBits Video. Sorry.

interesting how you say you are reversing but I can see by looking at this sweater you didn't do a good job at it ie the arm shaping is not an exact reverse. True they are both a decrease but not a mirror image. Should have been caught by you tec people. It was the first thing I noticed & have only been knitting for 3 years. It is easy to see this mistake(rf). You have the same issue on the neck line too. It is the same stitches but on the (lf) of the sweater that looks messy in decresses

Too much talk and not enough demonstrating. I'm lost. Show, not tell!

+Rosemary M I know my response is a bit late, but I find it helpful to look at a knitting pattern that does give full instructions for left and right front pieces (Red Heart's Boyfriend Sweater by Lorna Miser for example). Compare the instuctions for each front piece row by row (ex: row : K1, K2tog, knit to end of row becomes Knit to last 3 sts, SSK, K1). This helped me see exactly how to translate the instructions backwards. So if a pattern gives the left front, try writing out a right front by translating each row backwards. That way you'll have full instructions for both pieces. Hope that helps and didn't confuse you even more :P
