My wife had the reverse shoulder surgery on 2/15/24. The first few days afterward were pretty rough but we made great progress in the past two weeks. Diane is adjusting very well to being waiting on! Her main complaint is with sitting in a recliner all the time and wearing the sling all the time. She understands it is necessary, but both are a pain. The surgeon gave her a good report this week and scheduled PT starting next week. Thank you for the great video. Diane is on a similar path and it is good to hear how others have handled the experience.

I had my Reverse Shoulder Surgery on the 15th of September 2023. I was awake throughout the operation as I had nerve-blocking anaesthesia, which took 27 hours to wear off. I stayed in the hospital overnight. I was given only Paracetamol for the pain as I have heart disease. Eight days on I am still in dreadful pain and my shoulder is very stiff. I do the exercises the hospital told me to do which is difficult because of the pain. I am 76 years old and have already had three shoulder repairs, two on the left and one on the right, they left me with rotator cuff tears and snapped tendons. That is why I have had my first shoulder replacement and I will eventually get the right one done sometime in the future. Dressing is very difficult due to my other arm bieng in a poor state. I wish you all the best in the future and I hope everything turnes out ok.❤

You just told my story, had a left reverse shoulder in 4 weeks ago and the right one is worse. So I am having a time of it, I am 77 and thankfully still have my husband, and he helps me dress and get out of bed, which you know is so hard if you can’t push up on your arms, having the right shoulder replaced in January and hopefully that will make me independent again. Good luck and feel better soon.😊

Hard to do two handed stuff, but if you plan and think it through you can take care of yourself. Showering is possible if you have a hand held with long hose. I watched your video before getting mine ten days ago. The nerve block makes day one after the surgery a breeze. Day two, I took some pain meds only to sleep at night. No more pain meds since day four. Help is needed for some things, but one can manage if you prepare in advance. Go to post-op meeting with surgeon on day 10 (tomorrow) and begin PT shortly after. Since day two, I have been doing the limited exercises they recommend and now go for short walks around neighborhood. Being limited to one arm is difficult, but the pain I had before surgery is gone and I am sure this will all be an improvement. Thanks for your video!

My reverse replacement is on February 28th by Dr Baldauf at Desert Orthopedics in Las Vegas. I previously had the same thing on the left side back around 2015 in York, Pennsylvania, and I also spent one night in the hospital, but Dr Baldauf said I will probably go home the same day, and I will have to raise my arm over my head and put my hand behind my back before I leave that day. This will definitely be different which does make me a little nervous.

When you said that the night before was "rough" I think it was an understatement. I could tell that was what the medical profession would say - your face reveals the agony you experienced that night and were still going through. You put on a brave face. Having gone through this myself I know pretty much exactly what it's like. I wish the medical professsion would stop with the gaslighting terms. The pain from this sugery is over the top and most people are undermedicated due to needless fears of addiction. Only one half of one percent ever become addicted. 99.5 of people never addict. Undertreated pain can cause heart attacks, strokes, etc. I'm glad you're doing better and I pray you never have to go through this again with any joint.

I did not watch any KZbin clips about this surgery prior to my reverse shoulder surgery which will be 5 weeks ago tomorrow. My shoulder is healing fine. I go to PT 3 times a week. I have not had any pain, except healing pain, which is not terrible. My problem is for the elbow down. My pinky and ring fingers are now permanently in a curve. I cannot straighten them out unless I take my other hand and straighten them, but they go back to curved when I take my other hand away. The pain is unbelievable! It’s as if someone is taking pins and needles and sticking them into the tips of my fingers and the numbness and feeling that someone is rubbing sandpaper on my arm. It’s constant! I called my doctor, they ordered a nerve testa d that guy said my nerve is damaged,but it may heal. I am beside myself! The doctor finally prescribed Gabapentin for the pain, which helps but doesn’t eliminate the pain. I want to see a neurologist to get a second opinion. Being right handed, I cannot write, do my crafts etc. I am angry but I can see it turning to depression if my nerves are permanently damaged. Has this happened to anyone else and how long did it take for your nerve to heal?
@AllysKitchen2 жыл бұрын
Oh, Alice, I'm so so sorry. I can feel you frustration and pain. Maybe it will improve with time. Sometimes it takes a lot time for nerves to heal and become better functioning. Try to not let anger spin you into more things like a depression. For now, you're in the very young and beginning stages of healing. It could take months. The body is a miraculous instrument.

After listening to you I think I’m going to take my surgeon up on his offer of staying one night at the hospital, I have the option! my first surgery which was 11 months ago which was a rotor cuff repair and biceps repair I really didn’t need to stay in the hospital, The pain was very minimal even with pain pills after two days I didn’t need them. but the reverse shoulder surgery does sound more radical. And I too watched the surgery, already on KZbin. My surgeon doesn’t use the cooling ice device as I mentioned it to him and he said he’s afraid that I might damage my skin with it. It sure sounds like it would be helpful. Medicare probably won’t cover it anyway! So looking forward to be able to reach over my head actually shampoo my hair in the shower- So many things I still can’t do or if I try to I have a pain in my shoulder. Kathy, I had rotator cuff surgery (subscapularis full tendon repair) 6 months ago on my right (dominant) shoulder which was the result of a pedestrian/vehicular accident. I borrowed a comfortable recliner from my sister. It was a lifesaver. About 7 weeks after surgery I gave the recliner back to my sister and moved back into the bed and I haven’t looked back. Best of luck!

@@janetgill3242 Thanks for your help Will I be able to sleep on my side? Or do I have to sleep sort of sitting up? Did you sleep in the recliner? Many thanks
@janetgill32422 жыл бұрын
@@kathyadelsheim6197I used a recliner for about 7 weeks since it made getting in and out easier with the sling and attached abduction pillow but it’s quite possible that you would do fine in a normal bed with a lot of pillows propping up your affected arm and shoulder. I absolutely was able to sleep on my left side in the recliner as it was a fairly large recliner. You should be able to do that in a regular bed also but maybe not right away. You’ll find a position that makes you most comfortable. The sling keeps your shoulder stable in one position. I can sleep on my right shoulder today but even though I am 6 months out from surgery I could do that after 3 months. It gets better and easier every day. It hasn’t been easy but the eventual results will be worth it. I was in a pedestrian/vehicular accident and I probably shouldn’t have survived. I fractured my hip in two places and had a full tear in my subscapularis rotator cuff tendon. Today I am doing much better. Best wishes on your coming surgery and healing.
