Lessons Learned: 1.) Even if you've been carrying around a lot of extra weight and have been a diabetic for over a decade or longer, type 2 can be reversed and you can come off of your meds. 2.) It doesn't matter how old you are, you can be over 60. Your body will heal itself and you'll get all the energy back that you didn't have for many years. 3.) This method DOES have variety in its menu options.

It is an awesome one off guide for getting rid of diabetes type 2 without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my mate at very last got great success with it.

I’ve been keto past 6 years. It worked well for a few years, came off 2gm metformin and most of my BP meds but last 2 years have really struggled with elevated BG’s and more recently weight gain. Managed to get over my prejudices and have watched a few YTube vids. Started eating fruit only 3 days ago, and now BG slowly coming down. Have cut out my usual fat sources and it may just be working. My energy is not quite as good though. I was eating about 90gm protein daily. I’m hopeful anyway. Thank you so much for your testimony David, it was the first one I watched.

If I could afford it, I'd get the "Mastering Diabetes" book for my doctor. He had me on a "keto friendly" diet and even accused me of "cheating" when my numbers kept going up. I've been on a plant based diet for a month now and my numbers have plummeted and I've lost 10 pounds. I'll see my doctor in April and hope my A1C will be substantially lower and my weight should be down at least 20 lbs. I can't wait.

kd2mill May I please send it to his office? I frequently send plant based magazines to my different doctors, former doctors, doctors in my family, doctors related to them. I'd very much like to send this book to a few doctors - as I'm writing this, I realize I'd like to send it to a few doctors I know who are treating my unhealthy eating, regular weight, overweight, underweight, as well as extremely skinny/starving ("How can I have diabetes? I'm tiny...") family members who have diabetes (it's four generations on one side, two on another - so I'm passionate about helping others, and grateful I've been vegan for my whole life - though there was a lot of processed food growing up, which changed a few years ago).

When you go back to the doctor with better results you can explain that ketosis is not a healthy state for the body to be in; the diet is set up in a way in which if you eat anything else, whether an apple or a candy, insulin will spike worse than before, so people think fruit in it's whole, natural form, or a potato will make them sick - which is "proven" to people with diabetes on keto who eat a bit of carbohydrates - but then they actually get more sick because the body is less able to properly use the carbohydrates, less able to understand it's just a sweet, healthy apple, so a cycle happens in which any bit of carbohydrates, no matter the source, causes the person to get sick. You can tell your doctor it's been discovered that diabetes isn't a disease of too much sugar, but of too much saturated fat blocking the way which then makes the sugar a problem, but carbohydrates or sugars are not the first, actual problem...so taking out the saturated fat, especially from animals, eggs, dairy is the solution - your doctor can check out Doctor Neal Barnard on diabetes - the Ted talk or online search or his book, Reversing Diabetes (it's in libraries). You can tell your doctor to go on KZbin to check out Mastering Diabetes for two people who reversed type 1, which was never thought possible, who also help people lessen and reverse all kinds of diabetes, all by eating whole foods, plant based, tons of fruit, everything doctors used to say was a problem, and they're all so much more healthy, and when needed, much more slim and fit; you can tell you doctor that for weight loss, keto is the same thing - the body is in an unnatural state it shouldn't be in for any real length of time, so then eating any real, whole food or anything that's not protein or fat takes a person out of ketosis and causes weight gain, worse than before, usually. The only people who could really use keto are people in poor health, such as children with seizures - keto has helped them. However, to take out any main macronutrient is usually a sign something is not for healthy people - the body very much needs carbohydrates - people are confused because it's not the bread, pasta, apple, banana, oats, rice, beans that are problematic, or lead to health issues or weight gain, but it's what's on or with them - saturated fat from meat, eggs, dairy - or the much talked about, feared carbohydrates are actually processesed, refined sugar filled, lacking nutrients food type things that tend to show up in boxes at the store. On Instagram, you and you doctor can check out @drgarthdavis instagram.com/drgarthdavis?igshid=ajvmiga3tf9d for a lot of information about this - he's a bariatric surgeon, he knows what he's talking about. His book Proteinaholic discusses the issue with high protein diets, as well. It's in most libraries. In addition to each of his interesting posts on his Instagram page, please take a look at this one - and share it with your doctor - in which he shares someone's very personal experience with diabetes, a ketogenic diet, becoming more and more insulin resistant, and gaining health with a whole foods plant based lifestyle. instagram.com/p/Bry3ktFhBNY/?igshid=amlzp0qz1upx They both advocate eating whole foods, plant based with all macronutrients - carbohydrates, fat, and protein - each always already, in different amounts, in every plant, so the body misses nothing it needs and is at its healthiest state - it's good for personal health, for animals, for the planet. It can help prevent disease, reverse disease, help people lose weight if it's wanted, help people easily maintain a proper weight - without anyone being deprived at all. Also check out @vegancommunity @livekindlyco @pbnfood @forksoverknives @plantpoweredoctor @realnickcoleman @drleovenus @lilykoihawaii Rip Esselstyn's Ted talk - it's on KZbin - and his podcast, Plant Strong (on Spotify and other places, you can look it up), are great, too. So is the Plant Proof podcast, as well as the Nutrition Rounds podcast, hosted by Doctor Danielle Belardo MD, on Instagram as @daniellebelardomd, a good resource for people who need direction (like certain keto pushing doctors or others who need convincing).

@@imaginarynumber8520 I was on it for two years. At first, it was great. My numbers were "in the ballpark" where my doctor expected them to be. Over time, they started creeping up (two steps forward, one step back), and my doctor, in a veiled manner, started accusing me of cheating on my diet or at least eating larger portions. The last straw was when he said he wanted to change my medication and prescribe Farxiga for me. At first, I decided to cooperate, but when my insurance only wanted to pay 10% of the cost, resulting in a $97.00/mo increase in my prescription budget, I bailed. He then told me he wanted to put me on insulin, which was even higher. By then, I had researched enough on my own and found the Mastering Diabetes page on KZbin. I told him to let me try the plant based approach for three months and see what happens. He reluctantly agreed, but is still doubtful. I'm not doubtful, though, because I have seen drastic changes for the better in my numbers and can't wait to see him in April.

So I had to start cooking myself. I'm eating a banana, blueberries, walnuts or Pecans, half a grapefruit, lunch and dinner consist of roasted carrots, onion, broccoli, lots of peppers, cornon the cob....sometimes fish twice a week and a steak on Sundays...looking for variety bit if I could eat the crap I do for 20 years I can eat this Island diet also but just looking for some simple but healthy variety and I think I can get in from this site. . .

So no meat at all? I'm curious to know if others were able to achieve the same results by cutting back their meat intake by half(lean beef/chicken/turkey), and eating minimum 4 servings of fruit per day and more fiber/grain intake. Do you have to go full vegetarian? What about bread or a dessert now and then. Does it mean no more desserts ever? How much did exercise and losing weight play a part in the results? I've seen how People have had results to reverse diabetes, health problems, and keeping excess weight off by doing intermittent fasting. Anyone else have any input on that?

@@tlyons8537 Do you still eat bread or a dessert now and then, or no more ever? I love beef, chicken, and turkey. I eat a couple portions of pork a month. It'll be hard to give up rib forever, and roast turkey. My grandmother lived in fairly good health up until around 86. She only went senile the last year of her life at 87. She still ate small portions of lean beef and poultry up until the last months. She never had diabetes, or any cancers. She did eat at least 3 portions of fresh fruit daily. Some people can continue to be omnivorous until late in life. I guess it can depend on how much we abused ourselves and junk we ate when we were young.

Keto is extremely unhealthy long term, as in after just a few years, you could wind up with heart disease on that diet. Look up the Atkins diet founder. He hid his heart disease, which was discovered after he died.

I think if you just stop eating all processes food you can do the same thing. Limit meat to once a day and not at every meal.

It's impossible for an human to be healthy on a low carb diet no matter how well you do it. We need the carbs and we need a lot and they've to come from the real "natural" foods like wheat and whole grains rather than donuts. It's really that simple. We need plenty of starches.

If you cut off all "processed" carbs you do well. Carbs are in oranges, banana's apples, quinoa and oatmeal among others and they are brilliant foods

Is whole food/plant based ideal for prediabetes? I see that it helps for diabetics, but kind of keeps them in the prediabetes range. I was first diagnosed in 2020 with an a1c of 5.8, brought it down to 5.3. What scared me was that I started to have tingling in fingers/toes, frequent urination, and my vision seems worse. This is even with a lower A1C. I recently I started keto. It seems as though my body can’t handle even a small amount of carbs and even a certain amount of protein makes my glucose elevated.

@@MasteringDiabetes Yes, I’ve taken the test and have watch a testimonial by Pam, I think was her name. Just worried to start whole food/plant based as I’m already having so much trouble even with a low a1c. I’m also unemployed and have no insurance, so starting the program is something I can’t do right now. I’m very scared and overwhelmed.

D Lewis, Chia seeds are some very tiny black seeds; those are the seeds that are sprinkled over the top of the fruits, in the bowl of fruits he showed. If you also googled it you will see exactly what it is. You can also go to a grocery store and speak to a salesperson; tell the person that you want to buy some Chia seeds but you don't know what it is; he/she will show you exactly where it is, and what it is. Almost ALL groceries have it. Lewis, he explained and showed you what he ate and said that he also exercised; it's easy to follow him! Lewis, take care of yourself and God bless 🙏
