The 2008 Dakota Extended Cab 4X4 is a 4-door, up to 5-passenger compact pickup, available in 6 trims, ranging from the ST to the LARAMIE. Upon introduction, the ST is equipped with a standard 3.7-liter, V6, 210-horsepower engine that achieves 15-mpg in the city and 19-mpg on the highway.

This truck was way ahead of its time. If it was released today with updated electronics in the cab it would do good in the current market.

I traded my '99 for a 06. I miss my '99 and want it back. It was the best truck I have ever owned. Hands down.

I love dodge dakota. But I heard that dodge won't make 2011 dakota anymore. Dodge said " Dodge dakota be discontinued in 2011" Is that true? If that's true then I will miss dodge dakota.

I would like it if they redesigned it to look like a 2009 baby ram with forward grill. It looks like an updated 1995 Dakota 1st or 2nd gen. I love my Dakota and would like to move on to the new Dakota with 300hp (I tow a trailer every day) The boost in hp and tq will come in handy when I haul my 32ft 11k Hay Bale trailer. Just hope this one can be worked like my old one.

The new 4.7 has just over 300hp, older ones like my 04 are rated 235hp. I have used it to tow a 6500lbs 35ft camper and it towed just fine with a bit of effort, stopping was another matter as the brakes can barely handle that much weight. Your truck (whatever it is) gets no better fuel milage than the dakota. My quad cab, 4x4 averages around 16mpg and though I havent been on any long highway/interstate trips, I'm sure it'll get 20mpg easily.

I happen to like the 2008 Dakota myself. But the 545 REF auto is a minus. Why have a 3 speed with 2 O/D while you can get a 4 speed with 1 O/D. Or better yet a six speed auto.

ive got a 02, 4.7 v8, 4-door, SLT and in love it. Never had a prob with it and shes got about 112k milis on it. Dakotas are great trucks!!

What kind of truck do you have? The chassis and suspension play a largeeee role in how much you will be able to tow. and also inlines generally produce more power too.

I'm looking into getting a 2nd-gen Dakota (that's 1997-2004) for carrying dirt bikes about and such. I would like to be able to fit two MX bikes in the bed, which means that a Ranger or anything smaller than a Dak won't do the job. But at the same time, I've driven my dad's '98 Ram (with the 5.9L) and frankly it's a bit too much of a tank for my tastes. The Dakota is the perfect vehicle for what I need, which is great because I think it's the best-looking truck ever made until the '09 Rams.

Or the 70's and 80's model trucks of just about any make. I used to have an '85 GMC C1500. 305 V8 and 4 speed manual. That thing ran, and ran... and ran when I sold it. We used to haul water with it and the only real problem we had with it was the fuel pump ($13 fix). It didn't have air, or even a cassette deck. Just an AM/FM receiver. I wish I wouldn't have sold it :(

my dad had a 2000 dakota 4.7 all-weel drive and he put 500,000k on it and it was still going when he sold it

I have half a Million miles on my 1988 with the original Light-A 3.9L, you cant kill those engines if you keep a close eye on the fluids at all times. That's the secret. I also Have a 05 with 200k miles and the 4.7 same story, simple indestructible engine designs... just very finicky with the fluids and bleeding of systems to get all the air out.

no dont worry, a new dodge dakota (if they call it dakota) comes out this year. it might be smaller, im not sure, i also heard its gonna be made on the same platform as the minivans and be made at same plant. that might not be true. but i know for a fact dodge will have a smaller pickup than the ram

About toughness, I dunno. I'v done some offroading in mine but nothing bad, and it still drives like new. I do have some neighbors accross the road who has an 06 quad cab 4x4 dakota. It has half as many miles as mine (30k miles), but it drives like shit because they beat the hell out of that truck from the heavy offroad use. They'v had numerous problems with it which is no surprise to me. Right now it has a broken front driveshaft.

Are you joking?? They havent grown on actaull dimensions since 97. Of course a quad cab model is bigger/more room than the king cab models, but they have a smaller bed. The newer 4x4's actually sit lower than my 04 4x4 which has a little bit of lift from the factory. The rams are way bigger no matter the year model rxcept the REALLY old ones.

i hear they're going to discontinue the dakota & possibly replace it w/ some unibody pickup like the ridgeline.. that would suck.. I have an '01 dakota quad cab 4.7 ..130k & still going strong!

I've got 08 dakota "detonator yellow" I like the ride and the interior is comfortable but i've should have gotten the V-8 cause the 6 is a little too sluggish on acceleration. overall I still think its a great truck

I say dodge needs a smaller truck that is able to compete with the ranger. Or the upcoming 4 door F-100 with a V6 turbo 355HP, 26mpg.

There not that much bigger than before, the only thing thats grown in size was the addition of the quad cab in 2000, bigger wheels and the 4x4's sitting up higher. People who prefer the Dakota like it because of its size. For me, its not too big and not too small, I can be able to reach over the bed, I cant do that on a fullsize truck cause I'm a short dude lol. Its a little bigger than the other competition and always been like that, even the competition has grown a little over the years.
