Didn't sound too enthusiastic about reviewing this car. It is no doubt a lot of fun. It has great low end tq, the suspension is fairly nice for high speed corners, and the interior is pretty legit. A simple $550 tune and you can get a easy 260hp and 295ft pounds of tq in less than an hour.

overall decent review but i agree with the others saying he didn't seem very enthusiastic about this car. He didn't even take the car to a back road and have some fun with it. The civic si is similarly powered and he pushed that car. what gives?

I've got both cars sitting in the driveway and I gotta say I prefer the civics shallow, harsh clutch but for overall refined driving experience the GLI is clean af

Sorry yeah I need to start remembering to include the specs in my reviews. I'll incorporate that into my next one. For this car the specs are: 200 HP, 207 ft/lbs of torque, 0-60 takes about 7 seconds.

That aritifical V8 sound is not from the engine's induction noise actually. Its VW's device called the Soundaktor. It sits near the engine and makes artificial noise to make the engine sound better than it is. However I think its stupid and the engine by itself sound much better and natural. You can hear the turbo spool a lot better when its disabled too. Its similiar to Porsche's sound creating device they put in their cars.

for losing hp for a interior is cool with me cause i raced a wrx sti hatch in. my 2016 gli and beat him by a car and half length. iv had the 2013 evo and im so glad i got the gli. it might not be awd but damn the interior feels like im in a 60k car compared to the cheaply made evo interior.

berto371rr just bought a 17 gli sold my STI for it. With how the gli is geared how fast spool is and what the 3rd gen 2.0 puts down to the wheels stock. The difference is 20-30 whp and 20 wtq it feels just as quick

Honestly: Nobody buys these small sedans here in germany. The concept is dated considering that a hatchback offers more cargo space and has almost the same space in the backseat. So you only see old people driving them here. If people actually buy sedans they go for the bigger Passat, which is a very very nice car and extremely popular here in europe.

Jesus, this has to be the least enthusiastic review I have ever seen lol. I have owned my 2013 GLI since november of 2012 and truthfully it is a blast to drive on back twisty roads or really anywhere. after a few years I got an APR CAI and stage one ecu program along with some cheap ST coilovers and a rear sway bar. It is so much fun to drive and I have almost no issues with it outside of needing new coil packs before realizing I needed to upgrade to the R8 coils due to the tune. It is obviously a totally different animal now, but even stock I loved it. It is still my daily driver paired with my Colorado ZR2 for off roading and I probably will not sell it until the car is 100% dead. If you can get a MKVI GLI cheap bc they're obviously older now and used go for it, you won't regret it.
@rexx94963 жыл бұрын
Earlier this year I just got a Mk6 2014 GLI autobahn w/nav for about $14k. In near mint condition. Only had 28500 miles on it! Prior to that I drove a 2001 Mk4 Jetta GLX for almost 2 decades. The maintenance was getting a bit much so it was time for an upgrade. Glad I bought my new one early in the year. With the recent escalation of used car prices it would probably got for $17k by now. Love the car so far. It's still all stock but may look into some mods later.

I'd be curious to see what you think of the 2014, if you ever get around to drive and review one. I just picked one up and you can definitely feel the better top end compared to the 2013 and the GTI. On paper it seems minimal (10hp increase), but the feeling is much more joyful. :)

Around here sports cars and hatchbacks are rare. I rarely see any Subie STis's, GTI's, Miata's, etc. I have not seen one Toyobaru either. I mostly see Mustang's, Camaro's, riced out Civic's or lifted trucks.
@banddude12111 жыл бұрын
Most Americans here think hatchbacks are for gay guys. Car enthusiasts are pretty much the only people who buy them. I just wish that most hot hatches had RWD or AWD instead of FWD :/

@smgs92110 жыл бұрын
this was a pretty bad review, you're very repetitive and very unenthusiastic about it. No real handling or mentioning of the power. for $600 you can tune it and make the same power as the WRX and maintain the level of class you get with VW. You seemed much more into the civic si which is a worse car and more closely competitive than the WRX would be. I was very disappointed but I feel you don't like european cars so it's kind of expected.
@smgs9219 жыл бұрын
***** Apr, united motorsports, revo, giac, unitronic, eurodyne all are great tunes and put out close to the same power.
@smgs9219 жыл бұрын
***** no its not a chip. They flash tune it to your ecu. If you're new I'd recommend APR they're sometimes a bit conservative depending on which engine you have but they also have a great reputation for people putting 100k+ after a tune without any problems. Its only worth the price though if you have a turbo the vr5 and vr6 from vw and really any NA motor doesn't respond as well to tuning as a turbo engine. Basically they up the boost adjust timing and a few other tweaks. Well worth the price though

I know but I mean all hot hatches should be either RWD or AWD. Ford and Mazda need to step it up.

Yes, but it's very minimal. Most drivers probably wouldn't even notice it.

My uncle has recently gotten a fourth generation Polo, and it really felt cheap. It's not the worst car I've sat in, but I wouldn't spend my own money on one. VW is honestly not as good a car, as a lot of people claim it is. For the price of the average VW, you can get a way better car.

I've watched this again because I love my 2016 GLI. I agree, this car is for the person that wants performance with a little bit of subdued refinment vs an all out performance machine. The GTI is a better handling drivers car no dobut, but the MKVI GLI is still loads of fun to drive (Too bad it doesn't have LSD). I can't wait to go to a Stage 1 tune and really open up the engine's potential a few notches

These definitely need a 93 octane tune. That extra timing on the top end makes it pull much harder on top and maintain boost pressure better. I did my car one better. I put an aftermarket wastegate actuator on and now it is much harder on top.
@Phenom1257 жыл бұрын
The low grunt you hear in the cabin from accelerating is from the soundaktor. It sends vibrations through the windshield so that you get that sound.

Please! When reviewing the interior, don't point to things that we can't see and say I'll tell you about this later. Have still shots of the interior and while you narrate and zoom in on what you are referring to. Include a shot of yourself and someone over six feet tall getting into the car and showing the ease of adjusting the seat. Include a shot of the engine. Include specs!
@anothersiguy11 жыл бұрын
Based on that engine sound I'm guessing it's got a Soundaktor, just a speaker making engine noises.
@conyey11 жыл бұрын
what do you recommend for a driver looking for an AWD sedan similar to the WRX but with a nicer interior, kind of like the GLI w/ autobahn?
@ArnoldBlues11 жыл бұрын
I just picked up one of these, albeit with the 6 speed manual. Dual clutches have their time and place (like when I drove the Ferrari 458), but if you really want to pick up this car, grab it with the 6 speed. The clutch is very forgiving, especially with people who aren't that good with a full manual, and it's a ton of fun to drive for the price.

When the reviewer says do without the NAV screen that means you are ALSO foregoing the Bi-Xenon headlights, the LED running lights, etc. If you want a GLI, get the fully loaded package--that is, "With Navigation."

Have you done a review, for the manual? How was the shifting? Smooth or Rough? Which one would you recommend: DC or Manual?
@guitar790111 жыл бұрын
The shifting on VWs are amazing! They are all very smooth, the only thing I'm not sure I like is that the clutch range is huge, I like to really sit far back when I drive so that I can easily see blind spots but because the range on the clutch pedal is so much I need to sit kinda close.
