I had an 09 SE for 7 years, I'm a big Mitsubishi fan but they had nothing to offer me when It was time to replace my 09 Lancer, I hopped in the 2016 Lancer and was like wow nothing changed in this car so I ended up getting a 2016 Mazda 6 GT red soul thought I should give Mazda a chance since lately they have been very innovative with their new design language and overall internal and external build quality and so far I dont think i'll ever get out of a Mazda anytime soon.

the Lancer's multi-link rear suspension is an advantage over newer torsion-beam-equipped competitors like the Corolla, Sentra, Forte & Elantra. it partly explains its good body control and well-damped ride observed in this review.

Always loved Mitsu, have owned 3 generations of Eclipse. Wife owned a cvt Lancer and currently has a 16 Outlander. I currently own a 17 Lancer Anniversary Edition with the 5 speed manual. Excellent reliable cars, across our 6 Mitsubishi vehicles we’ve owned the total cost of repairs for all of them combined has been $38 lol. 1999 eclipse needed a thermostat, and the 2003 eclipse spyder a motor mount. Rock solid reliability.

I really like the simplicity of this car (especially my dad love it). It starts in the interior and ends in the engine bay. Everything is easy to change, filters (engine and interior), liquids, spark plugs and bulbs. No exstras, just basic stuff.

Mazda doesn't have anywhere near the amount of money needed to buy Mitsu. For starters Mazda is Mazda and only builds cars. Mitsubishi on the other hand builds everything form phones to microwaves to Tv's to cars, boats, tankers even Airplane engines. Heck they even built their own Zero fighters back in the day for the Japanese. Although they motor vehicle department has gone to crap over here in north america, Mitsubishi Corp is worth over 27.7 Billions dollars and had sales of 59.81Billion last year. There is no way they would ever swallow selling off a branch to a competitor. What they should do is take some of that money brough in from the other departments and use it to reawaken its Motors Branch. If only the Eclipse, Evo, Galant and especially the GT3000 were still around and Mitsubishi still believed in Turbo charging instead of cheap compacts for the Asian market than maybe they might be able to survive
@dannyregodapaz6816

Also fyi Mazda is worth $9.7 Billion. Mitsubishi is worth 3x as much to give you an idea. The difference is Mazda still knows how to build a sports car while Mitsu, wich could just doesn't bother..

Mitsubishi is a bigger company than mazda... btw why would a car company that already builds the sportiest mainstream cars buy another sporty company? Plus mazda is working with toyota now and toyota owns part of subaru. They litterally have the strongest automotive mashup in the world right now. They have reliability, one of the best awd systems there is and mazda is still perfecting the combustion engine and keeping sporty cars alive. The only way the three companies could be better is if they improve their infotainments

Totally agree. Mitsubishi has always produced solid powertrains and yes, even their CVT equppied models. I see 20 year old Mitsus on the road all the time. This is an outstanding non-car salesperson review. It is true, the 2016 model is a dinosaur with facelift. The beauty of this car is not electronic gadgets. It is the affordability, low maintenance cost and the car basic. The total 4 years caped services cost in Australia is only AUD$920. Since 2007, this car DNA remains the same. Basically not much change and no complex mechanical design. The number of point of failure is limited. Should you want A to B car and doesn't mind listen to AM radio, you can't go wrong with so little money that you have to spend. I use the Australia NRMA car running cost calculator to compare WOL cost per week for entry level Lancer, Mazda 3 & Honda Civic (Note:The "Whole of life (WOL)" based on new to five year private operating costs in cents per km and dollars per week, travelling 15,000km per annum) The Lancer is cost AUD$23/week less compare to Mazda 3 and Civic. The saving over 5 year is AUD$5980. It is approximately 26.59% of car purchase cost value. Furthermore, the IIHS small overlap crash test has a reasonable test result. I wonder why people still buy dinosaur and Mitsubishi doesn't mind to make them. At the end, it is still a sad story. The company sell Lancer Evolution is no long has any evolution. Instead they are selling amoeba.

I have a 2016 es lancer ( I think this is the Australian version of the GT ) and could not be happier. The dated look was the reason I chose this over the mazda 3. The front facelift design almost looks like a 3000gt to me and the simple interior look has a nice clean feel. I also love driving manual and it is kinda sad that there is a lack of a market for small sedans with manual transmission and simple gadgets these days.

As much as I miss the mitsu's of the 90's (eclipse GXS's, 3000gt VR4's, Galant VR4's etc) I understand that the automotive market is rather saturated and don't hold much profit anymore. They've went back to they're roots making Aircraft since the ban placed on the Japanese aviation industry at the end of WW2 has ended, far far more profit making jets then making cars.

I hate to disagree but you dont have to hate Subaru or not know any better to buy this car. Mitsubishi buyers know they are very very reliable and durable. They have the longest warranty and they are heavily discounted. Ive owned: EVO, Galant and Lancer GT, all were fun and reliable, good cars. It also has 20 more hp than the Impreza. And it has a 4wd lock! :)

For reliability and over all cost of ownership once car is paid off the Lancer and other current Mitsubishi are extremely easy to maintain with LOW cost of repairs. Timing chain on all engines, no expensive timing belt service every 80k miles like Hyundai and Subaru (Subaru has some engines now with chains ) but every hyundai/Kia motor has timing belts. Mitsubishi brakes can be changed in your driveway easily and for cheap. My brake pads lasted 45k miles. Mitsubishi uses long life antifreeze...100k mile between flushes. Mitsubishi has long life CVT transmission fluid which is good for 100k miles between flushes. See how inexpensive the Lancer is to own for many years? Tires, wipers, and brake pads only things that need changing. I love my STI but not for everyday driving to work. I commute 100 miles a day and the 08 Lancer is perfect for that. Reliable, cheap to insure and I can work on myself to change brakes etc.

I think this platform is something PROTON (our local car manufacturer) has produced before. it's actually a rebadged car based on Mitsubishi lancer. it shares almost identical features for its interior and a little changed in term of exterior look. it's called the Proton Inspira. it's claimed to be injected with DNA of lotus ride and handling. I am currently driving this car and kudos to Mitsubishi for making a great car.

I have extremely bad experiences with Mitsubishi. My Mitsubishi Colt was a lemon. As my boss wanted to change our park of vehicles with the new Mitsubishi Outlander and ASX, I warned him in a letter about my atrocious experience. He didn't listened to me, a mere "normal guy". We ended up having those cars for three years, already under warranty, they had all sorts of gremlins ; in the moment the warranty wore off, the cars falled apart. This was a catastrophy for our business and we lost years of budget in those turds. Don't be us.

I have the 2010 GTS with CVT. 2.4L non turbo. Unfortunately it was a FWD; how I wish it had AWD. The CVT part doesn’t bother me though; came with nice big paddle shifters. (Paddle shifters on Subaru is a joke; too small). So anytime I don’t like how CVT is behaving, I just hit the paddle and manually take over. For folks with the 2016 model that has CVT but no manual over ride, I read somewhere the transmission was actually factory-wired for the manual shift-selector. So you’d just need to get a shifter (either buy new or from salvage junk yard) and swap it in. A guy posted it on one of the Lancer forums as a preparatory step before adding a turbo to his 2.4L; do a search and it should be easy to find.

Wow the Lancer is AWD in the US? I don't know if we ever got an AWD Lancer in Australia that wasn't the Evo. The 4B12 engine is absolutely bulletproof. I own a Lancer with one of these engines and it's been extremely reliable, the only issue I've had with it is a minor oil leak from not changing the oil on time. The interior is simple and the driving experience (manual of course) is fun enough for me and that engine gives me ample power for what I need.

They had good cars in the past, but aren't doing well actually, this could also be a cause for the good comments you are still able to see. Also, even if they don't have any quality control at all, they can sometimes assemble cars that will hold, and those consumers will also comment in a positive way. This is what's giving the impression of very bad vs very good. Whatever, I have already seen that Mitsubishi is erasing negative comments on social medias, and they are blocking critical consumers with technical problems. The amount of peoples with problems you can't see is probably higher. @@ionneifion2012

man mitsubishi's are solid as shit easy to service for the most part select things you won't need to do very often are more difficult, worst is parts can be expensive the right side driveshaft oem C$1000. (Raliarts, EVO's only) DCT Transmission is like C$10,000

normally I'd say buy a Subaru but I messed up and purchased one and its a oil burning pos. I have to put oil in it every 2500 miles, and this sucks because I need awd or 4wd but don't need a truck or suv, or crossover.

If they made this in a hatch with the 170hp motor, I'd have bought one. As it is, the no manual/DCT and no hatch is a deal breaker for me.

They DID, but I thought it was an ugly style hatch vs Golf or Astra style. Plus, it had the 2.0T and a "fragile" DCT.

if they were gettin' rid of the EVO, should have at least kept the ralliart. I had the 09' Ralliart a few years as kinda a fun daily. you get some evo stuff shoved in and tuning support even an evo 10 turbo swap away from nice performance if you couldnt drop 40k on an evo.

I can't prove this with science, but I'm pretty sure Jay Leno is ripping you off.. check out the newest vid (1970 Charger) of Jay Leno's Garage. He does an 'In the Shoppe' segment, which as near as I can tell he has never done before. Coincidence? I think not.

I would also take the Lancer before the Impreza, and I own a STi and a Outback XT.. The Lancer is much more reliable. Non-turbo subaru's burning oil like crazy and/or headgaskets.. choice is easy. Would have been nice to have a MT on the non-turbo AWD Mitsu tho, Really sad to see the dEvolution of Mitsu..

Dip Patel This was an AWD model. Turn off traction control. Slam down the gas during turn could throw more power to back wheels and make them spin, “throttle turning” he called it.
