When you can make an owner of a 480 HP car smile and giggle with your 180 HP car, you’ve done it right. Well done Mazda.
@johnsimion28936 жыл бұрын
No, they haven't done it right. Not until the car can do all that AND the car is big enough for American-sized people to fit in without their heads touching the top and their knees touching the dashboard. The Miata is supposed to emulate the MGB but tall people could always fit in an MGB with no issues. The Miatas have gone through multiple generations only a couple of inches short of room and numerous magazines and videos have pointed it out to them, but Mazda seems to deliberately ignore the problem. Yes, you can do your own surgery on the seat padding, mount the seats lower, replace them ... but you shouldn't have to. It wouldn't cost Mazda a dime to fix the damned problem. They just don't want to.

@ThatFlyGuy3536 жыл бұрын
John Simion my buddy has a Miata. I’m 5’11 and I fit in it just fine. I’m pretty sure I’m around the average size for an American male. It would make sense for Mazda to cater to the majority of buyers (aka average sized individuals). I don’t think it’s a design flaw as much as a marketing tactic. Not every car works for everyone, you know?
@johnsimion28936 жыл бұрын
Well, every single response here missed the point or dodged it. Yes, Valentine, the Miata is indeed a small car. As I pointed out, the 40-year-old MGB has near-identical dimensions and I fit in that fine -- so what is your point? My post was about how TALL people fit in the Miata. Why, then, is Brandon talking about "fat" when "fat" doesn't make your head hit the top and your knees hit the dashboard? [and for the record, I'm an American, 6'-4" and 200]. Christian correctly notes that at 5'-11", he fits fine -- that's true, but is 5'-11" now considered "tall"? That's news to me. I'm 5" taller, but I'm not asking for 5" more space. Interesting marketing tactic to make your car unavailable to a large segment of the population. I'm asking for another inch of headroom and an inch of legroom. As I pointed out, it would be incredibly easy for them to fix, and there are too many web threads identifying the problem for them to be unaware. Hence I can only conclude that Mazda either just doesn't listen or doesn't care. And that's their privilege. But when a 40 year old car with near-identical dimensions can fit American sized drivers and the Miata can't -- please don't tell me how "great" they are and how they've "done it right."

Never have I clicked on a video on youtube this fast Matt! I hope Mazda Global post this video on their site + socialmedia because the way you convey your emotions is so authentic. I also hope Mazda give you a percentage to every MX-5 they sell too (even a tiny bit), after the people claim they watched this video. 4 cylinder or not, it sounds pretty darn good in my opinion - granted maybe the S2000 as a 4 cylinder has more of an edge to it but many people seem to forget that the S2000s costed significantly more money than the NB and NC MX-5s that were sold at the time; so considering the fact that this 2019 MX-5 is pretty close in performance to an S2000 really goes to show how well Mazda have progressed throughout the years (take note Honda, Subaru+Toyota). If you have the funds, I honestly think you should without doubt keep your Bullitt but also add the F Type and this 2019 MX-5 to your long term collection! I saw the photos of the 2020 Mazda 3 and I'm really excited about that car too, although I'm not sure about that thick C pillar and how it might ruin the visibility, and also the move to the torsion beam suspension from the multilink setup.

Only thing that I think Mazda missed for this 2019 facelift would be getting rid of the circular shape on the tail lights and instead make it long and sleek - to get rid of its 'cutsy' image. If that’s what you’re after/what you enjoy/what you desire out of car “reviews” then by all means do so That being said it’s a worrisome trend that’s accelerating at a blistering pace, these “influencer” types who’s credentials are simply making vlogs and having a youtube following and suddenly we’re calling them “reviews” / “reviewers”. This in reality is a guy making a video of himself enjoying a drive in a press car, and consumers are doing themselves a great disservice by allowing the lines between journalism/bias free objective reviews and “experience vlogs”

One of my favourite reviews done by you that I'll be coming back to watch in several years time - alongside TheTopher's POV video he has done with the 2019 ND MX-5. Only few things that I'll point out: 1. Considering that most people use portable devices to listen to music nowadays, I think its alright for Mazda to ditch the CD system, considering the fact that this 2019 MX-5 costs a tiny bit more than the 2018 yet comes with a host of engine upgrades, which aren't a cheap thing to do for a manufacturer. 2. Whilst I completely agree that the backup camera looks out of place, I think I'll be fine by that because the numberplate region would be too low for the camera to see oncoming objects - Having said that, people should learn to drive better in a small car like the MX-5 if they happen to rely too much on a backup camera! Having said all that, great work!

Try it before you buy! I loved the car, how it looked , how it drove, its reliability, and I would have bought it in a second .... if I would have fit inside the cabin. Not being exceptionally tall at 6 foot 2.5 inches, I found the cabin a nightmare. No left side elbow room and the seat wouldn't go back far enough for my frame. The passenger side was even worse. Where my legs and knees were fine under the driver's side (yet I couldn't get far enough away from the steering wheel), on the passenger side my knees were touching the dash, regardless of what I did, where there should have been a glove box, but there wasn't one? My 5 foot 2 inch wife with her short legs was fine as the driver, but on the passenger side the floor hump (catalytic converter?) next to the center console had her left leg raised a good 2 inches higher than her right leg. She found that uncomfortable. Take all of those issues aside ... and the car is fantastic!! A simple, easy to deploy soft top, with drop dead good looks, almost unbelievable driving dynamics, a history of reliability, and at a price point that makes it easy to own? Its hard to pass up ... except if you don't fit. If you're tall, its sad that you have to pass it up.

Your review was hilarious. Your excitement contagious. Thanks for that. I never get any reviews on the sound system. What is that like? Also for music lovers, do you find the system constraints enough of a deterrent? Thanks.

I would take an NB special edition over the new one simply because of price difference. Miatas are great no matter which model though. Truly awesome sports cars!

lol you rather die in a rust-prone older car than survive in the newer car when you crash? Okay then

I always forget about the hidden cubby holes! Have driven my ‘16 all over the West. Great touring vehicle (unless you’re a tall passenger.) Has plenty of power for the streets and passing power. Wish I had the GT leather seats + 19 extra HP. You can get the LSD on the GT now.

Another great review. My buddy just drove a GT with the AUTO transmission. He liked it better than the manual. I think he’s crazy but, now I’m going to have to try it as well. I’m def getting a GT this spring! Prob Machine Gray w/ Auburn leather. I always thought the manual was the ONLY way to go. Now I’m not so sure....

The auto is king if you want the fastest Mustang or sit in lots of traffic. The 10 speed makes it feel faster too, but it's still too slow with the shifts in manual mode in my opinion.

Matt Maran Motoring I was referring to the MX-5 Miata GT (Grand Touring)

Oh gotcha haha my bad! Honestly the 6 speed auto in the Miata is okay, again a great choice if you sit in lots of traffic or don't like manuals, but for me it's not even a consideration, I'd only go manual.

The auto makes texting and driving easier. I keep missing shifts when I am updating Facebook. I am no buying manuals any more- Not

I was looking into buying the GR86 as a 2nd car, but I also like the Miata RF. What do you think about the automatic transmission in the Miata?

Very light car for other cars to be this fast need 300hp!

Look at Matt ! All grown up and shaving now. Just kidding. You've been doing this a while. Nice review with lots of details placed in a short timeslot: someone did their homework. Considering the Miata in the future and I appreciate your balanced review.

Is this your favorite trim/model of the new Miata ND? Grand Turing best? (Vs. the Sport or Club?
@MattMaranMotoring4 жыл бұрын
It comes down to preference, but for me yeah I like the Grand Touring best. Partially because it's the only way to get this blue and tan combo.

Just another 20 hp again for a rounded 200 and I think this car would sell significantly better

Just purchased a 2021 RF GT. Also have an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti and a C7 Grand Sport. I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to drive them all. But I keep driving the MX-5 over the others…
