Really cool to see Lexus isn't focusing on achieving pwr/trq with a turbo motor. People tend to forget that a fast car today will be a slow car a generation from now. A N/A v6 sounds and feels good today, and will continue to do so many years from now.

Only thing slowing turbo cars from today down in the future is carbon build up from GDI, as cars move to include both GDI and Port Injection this will be less and less of an issue. Besides, look at all the turbo cars of the past how much slower are they than their original baseline?

Keeping NA engin is a great idea (especially they are indestructible) but it also shouldn't prevent them of thinking of making an IS500 and ISF, if they really want to compet with their german rivals. As far as I'm concerned, an IS 300h will do the job for my daily use
@boboutelama57484 жыл бұрын
@@alexkid408 What is preventing to even dare of thinking of the IS500 and ISF are fleet carbon taxes slowly coming everywhere. BMW, Mercedes and VW are already whining and trying to have them removed, what will very probably not happen because european peoples are voting green party into the government so that this will come. It means Toyota is one of the few who actually has a plan/idea, of what they are doing in the long run. There is a way around though, and it's the inline 6 they are working on. Less emission because of 3Liter displacement, more torque, because of the inline 6, a more favourable bore/stroke ratio, lighter, and more power (around 350hp announced - will more probably be around 335 hp).

Looking at the comments I can tell that a lot of people don’t have a business mindset of how Toyota/Lexus operates from a business perspective. In life you can’t have everything that you want. With every choice comes a trade off, cost and benefit. Just because every other car brand is following the trends of turbo chargers doesn’t mean Toyota/lexus needs to as well. The company knows that the market is shifting from sedan to suv. It doesn’t make sense to invest heavily in the sedan market especially since consumers market are filled with people eager to buy suv. On the other hand this IS is not at all bad. 311 horsepower is still enough for the average consumer that commutes from home, to work, and occasional outings. As a business it doesn’t make sense to devalue a Toyota/Lexus engine to appeal to a small minority of people that want a turbo charged 350-390 horsepower sedan. Your average consumer is not driving a car with 390 horsepower because if your living in the city there’s no point if you’re using it as a daily driver. I can give u an example, Mercedes sold more c300 from 2016-2020 ( 256 horsepower) than that of the c43 and c63. Why you ask? Because the average consumer is not looking for the fastest car. The average consumer which is a majority, is looking for a car that is nice but relatively good looking to commute within the city. Therefore I feel like Lexus nailed it with this IS. Within three years you will see a lot of owners with this car on the road in comparison to the German competition that get tossed out before it reaches 100,000km with problems

I think the Lexus IS engineers are having a side bet with the Subaru WRX STI engineers to see who can keep their horsepower the same for longer. There is no excuse or reason in this day in age why over the course of a decade and a half this car has only gotten 5(!!!!) additional horsepower while the weight of the car has gone up by several hundred pounds during that time thus actually INCREASING the 0-60MPH time! Yes, the new 2021 IS350 is actually slower than the 2006 IS350 (which actually came out in summer 2015). Keep in mind during the same time period the comparable BMW 3 series model has increased its horsepower by 127 versus the 5 additional HP added by the lazy Lexus engineers. It’s a shame because otherwise this is still a decent car

Outdated but proven reliability. If you haven't noticed by now, this is Toyota's business model and the primary reason people buy them. If you want the latest and greatest tech in this segment at the cost of reliability, buy German. You can put 300k+ miles on an IS without any major issues other than regular maintenance. You can't say that for the Germans.

Lexus redid all the suspension which was already double wishbone and they stiffened the chassis. I don't understand the "outdated" complaint. How many people would know this was the old chassis if they didn't tell you. I've driven this chassis, I was shocked at how good it was before, and they've stiffened it. My only real complaint is they need to bring the IS-F back(i.e. more power). However, with everyone buying CUVs and SUVs I understand why they wouldn't invest money in that.
@SpartanKyuubi4 жыл бұрын
@@hamsterbrigade the interior looks like it belongs to a car 20 grand cheaper. I understand the driving feel could be the best in an IS yet. But, this isn’t why we buy a Lexus. We want a premium luxury feel. When I used to get inside an 2013 IS, you felt you were in a car that outmatched the competition. This does not provide that feeling. A Genesis G70 feels more luxury than this, and I know, the G70 May still be a Hyundai, but if you forget about the brand, you will realize how overpriced the IS 350 is.

@@SpartanKyuubi You're clearly just a brand snob. Just admit you like the unreliable Germans. It's OK. The interior "looks" cheap? Lets compare shall we. i.ytimg.com/vi/maoS02aGNVo/maxresdefault.jpg static.toiimg.com/img/76407525/Master.jpg images.hgmsites.net/lrg/bmw-4-series_100748482_l.jpg

I have had the Rwd version since 2021. Nice car, but I would like to know if swapping in Michelin Pilot 4S tires would increase grip to reduce tail wagging in sharp corners and wheelspin on acceleration?
@MattMaranMotoring Жыл бұрын
Sportier tires should definitely help with grip.

How does this feel compared to the new TLX? Maybe not quite a fair comparison?
@MattMaranMotoring4 жыл бұрын
I think it's a fair comparison, and I actually just filmed a TLX review. It'll be posted next week but I'll say I definitely like the TLX much better. Easy choice in my mind. TLX turns in quicker, feels way lighter and more agile, and even manages to have a much smoother ride than the IS.

What are your thoughts on the rwd?

The front fascia I love, not so much the rear end. Not a fan of the full running rear lights.

I own a 2017 model and it doesn't seem like it's improved much. I do like the headlights more. It has the same transmission lag and the same old V6.

Hasn’t had much improvement since the late 2000s

Your wrong I went to go test drive this and all though it’s the same engine, the shift between gears is much quicker especially during sharper turns and it’s much more responsive. The overall ride quality is better than the 3rd generation IS

So Matt, how does this compare to the Kia Stinger GT?
@MattMaranMotoring4 жыл бұрын
Stinger GT is much faster, has more dynamic handling, better grip (tires), better transmission, more space, more practicality and a slightly more luxurious interior. Oh and a much longer warranty lol.

But does the Kia have Lexus reliability? Great review Matt!
@MattMaranMotoring4 жыл бұрын
Only time will tell with reliability but I don't think Kia would put a 10 year warranty on a car that will fall apart before then.
