The infotainment in my 2018 WRX was incredibly slow and laggy so I'm not surprised that Subaru wouldn't do much to actually fix that. That said, they really should put more effort into their infotainment given that it controls the climate controls now. Given that so many comparable SUV's in America have an AWD option now, I don't know why anyone would choose the Subaru tbh

I wish Subaru would quit tripling-down on this non-ubiquitous screen of theirs. We like the big clear carplay in our 2023 Outback Premium, but HATE the HVAC and seat heaters being screen buttons. Subaru needs to come out with a next-generation infotainment screen that puts the HVAC back to physical controls. And speeds up the actual screen itself, most competitors have very fast units now.
@wg53313 ай бұрын
@@thatoneotherotherguy Exactly, and to think the HVAC system is better than it originally was on the screen. When it came out, the fan speed buttons were so tiny. You had to concentrate kinda hard to make sure you were tapping them when driving. They need to buff on the speed drastically. Even the system in my father’s 2016 Colorado is noticeably quicker…

That’s my favorite screen layout. Of all of the screens out there, at least Subaru tends to put it as close to where your hand would be while resting on the stick. It’s even more convenient to reach than Tesla’s. I think it’s much better than the higher, landscape screens that are farther to reach, have smaller screens and icons, and you can’t rest your arm on the stick - like you see in Hondas and Toyotas. I’ll move on from Subie if they drop the big vertical screens. I also don’t get the resolution complaints. I have good vision, I can’t say I’ve ever noticed any issues. Google Maps and other apps look just fine, and I love the big icons. Impossible to miss with your fingers. You could solve that wireless charger issue with a thin layer of rubber. That wouldn’t affect the power transfer.

Those dated powertrains just aren't acceptable anymore when Honda, Kia, Hyundai, and Toyota have hybrid options that make more power while getting far better economy. In 2000 a Subaru Forester had a 2.5 l 4 that got 165 hp. Today they use a 2.5l 4 that gets 180. The mileage is improved but its still way below the hybrid competition. And it isn't like its a smooth powertrain either. The Subaru 4/CVT combination is much less smooth than the 4 cylinder hybrid system Honda has. The Subaru touchscreen control setup where many features that were buttons are now on the touchscreen is inferior to the setup from companies like Honda and Mazda which have real buttons.

I think you're exaggerating a bit. As an Enterprise employee who drives dozens vehicles every day, I can assure you that the number of buttons on the steering wheel on newer Subarus is not a significant problem for MOST people. The funniest part is that people complain when there aren't enough buttons, and then again when there are "too many." If the buttons are overwhelming, you can simply ignore the ones you don't need haha. I’ve owned, rented, or test-driven all of these, except the Outlander. I actually like the Forester. Yes, all these criticisms are valid. BUT at least it’s comfortable and functional. It won’t win any races or beauty contests, but it’s an easy car to live with (if they would just do something about that screen). A lot of people love the CX-5, and it is beautiful and handles well, but I’ve disliked it every time I drove one - Small and uncomfortable driver’s seat and hard to see out of. Plus the cargo space is a bit small. (Note: The Forester’s usable cargo space is bigger than its specs indicate). All the others also have issues. The only two I actually liked were the CRV and the VW Tiguan. But the 1.5L turbo in the CRV suffers from oil dilution in cold climates. And would I trust VW reliability long-term? (On the other hand, the two VWs I’ve owned were flawlessly reliable, so maybe I would trust VW). YMMV.

I gotta say, the little horizontal screens in the Mazda, Honda and Toyota are absolute deal breakers for me, and I think the Subaru has a cushier ride than the other models. I find several year old Mazdas hardly feel “luxurious” inside, and the ride doesn’t get any better or less harsh. I’d rather deal with a slightly slower screen so I can have a large easy to access icons, maps and lists. When I open Apple Music, on my Outback playlists and other options fill the screen and are easy to use. Having to reach up and use a little screen with so little info to choose from is no good for me. I just find myself choosing the first music option I see on the screen and avoiding having to deal with it from there until I”m parked, so it being faster is kind of irrelevant, like resolution. Toyota’s current offerings are absolutely agonizing to use. I’d rather have an old AM radio with an 8-track. I also like the bronze. I think it would go great with blue or the earthier green color. Not sure if they’re doing a sort of brown colored Forester, but that could work, too.

What is the point of a review if he's not supposed to point out what he doesn't like. Go watch a subaru advertisement video if you just want to feel good about your fanboism

In all fairness, the critique sounds like you don’t know Subaru

This comment is placed here because if you read this and consider buying a subaru for their reputation of reliability and safety, you are an ill-informed consumer and everybody knows who you vote for. No-need to coat the back of your horrible car with your other poor choices in life.
