REVIEW: 3.5mm Headphone IR Remote Control for Phones?!

I know this is an old post, but it helped me out greatly! Found an IR blaster along with some other cords. Had no idea what it was or where it came from. Fortunately, I found another one in its unopened bag with a card saying IR blaster. Now I'm going to give it a try with one of my older android 'house' phones. Thanks!

Also, the "power output" from the headphone jack isn't minimal to avoid being a battery drain, it's minimal because most headphones are also driven by the signal provided them. They don't have a separate power supply and communication line, turning up the volume increases the amplitude(voltage) of the signal wave, and the increased voltage increases the power supplied to the headphone. They're "low power" because they supply enough power to get the loudness they want from the headphones, which isn't much. Also since that's how these ir leds are being powered as well, turning the volume on your phone all the way up will give you the best range.

No, it doesn't receive signal, it's basically just an LED soldered onto a 3.5mm plug.

IR emitter: just snatch an 3.5mm old headphone jack and solder 2x IR diodes (opposite parallel) from old R/C on the L/R terminals of jack: Now you have a DIY powerful IR blaster ready. Doesn't cost anything since all these are from "junks" at home. Just maximize all the settings on the App (tested on Zaza Remote App) to get good powerful transmit of signal..... The power source is NOT used as said in this clip (by some novice) here... just the signal ..WOKRS GR8.

Could simply be designed for Apple phones, as in typical Apple fashion they put their mic & ground connections the opposite way around(on 4 connector plugs) - though it shouldn't make any difference if the ir blaster only has 3 connectors on the plug.

I suggest that everyone first check the output voltage on your 3.5mm plug before buying this. Use your voltmeter. My Sony Xperia only delivers 1V. Is not the suitable voltage for these ID diodes.

Make magazine store sold "TV be gone". One version was built into a ball cap. The top "knob" was the activation button. They also sold a cell-looking version. There were 2 types. US common brands and European brands. Both devices cycled through all of the known codes. DIY and open-source cultures are fairly accepting folks.

Probably not much point, there would likely be little more than an LED. Software sends a 'loud' signal(for max voltage) and the LED turns on, and vice versa.

No, just because you couldn't get it working doesn't mean it's 'fake'. 3.5mm socket provides a (small) voltage, IR LED is lit by said voltage. You need to use a compatible app, some phones seemingly also don't support this - presumably due to some kind of protective or sensing circuitry.
