Thanks for this! I feel like coughing up the 50 bucks for the new version of Goyo (I forget what theyre calling it) is the way to go.

I agree. Goyo was renamed Clear for some reason, but I question the thinking behind it because they'd already built some name recognition with Goyo, which is much easier to search for than Clear will be.

Inglés Hello, does this pluing need an additional ilok exclusive to the pluing? excellent demonstration.
@jesse.mccune10 ай бұрын
The Pro version requires an iLok, but the non Pro version of dxRevive doesn't.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I really do appreciate it and I’m happy you found it useful.

Thanks for your thoughtful and thorough review. This was super helpful since I’m currently researching plugins in this space. Only suggestion is that it would have been helpful to have a more representative gender balance in the voice samples. Perhaps more variety too like someone with an accent.

I'm happy the video was helpful and thank you for the feedback. When I choose clips for tools like this, I'm looking for diversity in noise and reverb. In my experience, the person talking doesn't have an impact on how well the tool works, unless we're talking about Adobe's Voice Destroyer, which absolutely does not do as well with female voices. I haven't found that to be the case with any plugin I've tried.

Have you experimented with the different algorithms? I found the studio algorithm was a little more heavy handed in terms of EQ.
@jesse.mccune11 ай бұрын
There are only the two algorithms right now. Studio and Retain. The EQ is definitely heavy handed on Studio. Retain is essentially the noise reduction side of things with maybe a little additional processing. Since I'm not a fan of the noise reduction in this plugin I didn't spend much time on the Retain setting. I'm hoping they introduce additional algorithms in the future that might be more useful, but currently, Retain isn't worth the price of the Pro version.

For me it creates an artificial AI type voice effect beyond cca 15%.

I feel this is a problem across the board with any noise reduction tools that have a lot going on under the hood. Adobe Enhance and Descript Studio Sound often suffer the same thing. The noise reduction in dxRevive isn't that good and starts to show its weaknesses when pushed. It also showcases why the best noise reduction starts before the recording starts.

So its literally a BAD ripp off from the Clarity PRO then? Tks for the video!!!!
@jesse.mccune9 ай бұрын
I'm not sure I'd classify it as a rip off of Waves Clarity. It is closer to Supertone's Clear and Cedar's VoicEx since it handles both noise and reverb reduction in one plugin.

I feel like part of the dxRevive de-reverb strength comes from it rolling off more high end than the others. This is not necessarily a good thing. Sure, it rolled off more reverb, but it also rolled off more of the speaker's voice. Maybe by using the pro version you could tame that rolloff down, but at that price you're better off with one of the other tools. Overall I imagine one day these one-knob plugins will get better, but for now they all are still strictly for people who don't know how to use real tools, like Isotope Rx. Also, dxRevive completely failed to make Zoom recording artifacts any better, so that was just a pure fail. Not surprising - the data just isn't there with a band limited Zoom recording - but they shouldn't be advertising that it will perform such a hopeless fix.

I agree with most of this. Like I said in the review, I really wish we had the ability to turn the EQ off, but I'm guessing it's part of the reverb suppression algorithm to help clean things up. There are use cases for plugins like this for people who do know their way around RX, and that's mainly to speed up their workflow. I'm always looking for ways to minimize the time spent in RX doing manual work and having to render it all out.
