I usually see this kind of nib being used by lettering artist to make monoline letters. Interesting seeing itu used like that. You really know how to make most of everything. Oh and, I still don't get why you haven't get like hundred thousand subs, or at least hundred thousand views, being a channel with consistent update with useful review of anything art related. It's not just a number, but with what you give, i wish a lot more people will know, and will be helped through your video. Wish you all the best!

I think these sort of dip nibs with the circle shape at the tip are called 'monoline dip pens'. I've only ever seen them used by calligraphers for beautiful monoline calligraphy so I had no idea they could be used like a fude nib to achieve different stroke widths!

When I first saw this round nib, I felt like I recognized it, like I remembered it. I took a calligraphy class years ago. Maybe that's where I saw one. But I don't think I saw one with that large of a round nib tip. How interesting. Wish I knew where my pens were. It would be fun to try again. Nice drawing..... (it was DECADES ago I toook that class though)

I know this pen since 30 years but I should still try its lines out. The different kind of lines are absolut interesting for art!. Thank you for this video. 👍

This nib looks like a fun new toy to play around with. Nice lively lines, and it seems to do pretty well at covering areas. As if I need more art supplies....

Now that's an unusual nib! I must have it. Would you say it behaves like an italic/stub nib, a chinese calligraphy nib, or something else? Is line weight completely dependent on the angle of the stroke? Also, is the document ink a fountain pen ink? Would artist/pigment ink be a little more controllable with this nib? Thanks for the review!
@teohyc4 жыл бұрын
This pen is quite unusual because the round nib allows it to be used in any direction compared to certain calligraphy or dip pens where you have to always pull down. Line weight here depends on whether that flat circular part is flat on the paper or not. Most fountain pen inks or dip pen inks, or India inks should work well.

Search for Treraid nibs on ebay

1:23 See the ink clumps on the nib? That’s because there is a rust protective oil on the nib the manufacturer puts on. You need to scrub it off with dish soup to have it hold ink better. Fire is a popular choice to get it off, but it changes the properties in the metal and the nib won’t last long…

Try loading your nib's ink reservoir with a paintbrush to control the ink flow this technique is used in calligraphy.

That's similar to the US made Speedball B nib line which is much better, I think you should try a thicker ink like India ink with that nib. Those are "lettering nibs" used before the days of computer graphics to make fancy lettering for graphic design. They are currently mostly used for doing broad line cartoon and illustration inking although that has started to lose favor with current digital tools.

For 2020, it would be nice to see you make some "testing cheap art supplies" videos. One brand I've found that seems to make some pretty decent brushes at an affordable price is Art Secret. They are on AliExpress.
