This was the best video showing the construction of this coop! Thank you for posting it. I feel a lot less stress about putting it together.

Thanks for the review! I have parts all over the place waiting on parts to dry. We used Readyseal stain. February is not a good time to stain. The product said 45 minute dry time. On day two, inside a storage shed with a fan going. You made it look easy. Appreciate you buddy.

We've had the same coop for about two years, and love it. We had five chickens (for now), so we built a chicken run next to the coop, with a door the same size as the small door on the end of the coop, but with an opposite swing. By opening both doors I put a frame that fits into both doors creating a tunnel into the run.

Great video! We have the same coop for almost 6 years now. And looking to purchase another Petmate. Been very happy with the original purchase and glad to see that the roof is new upgraded.

Good rule of thumb is 1 nesting box per 4 chickens - 3 nesting boxes is 12 chickens easily - you could probably push it to 15 before they started getting grumpy. You will run out of nesting bar space before nesting box room.

Thank you we have been getting different information on how much room is needed, these are our first chickens. I did finish expanding the coop out doubling to size of everything. The chickens seam most happy now with the extra play room and the longer nesting bar. Good advice, my friend. Ill post the expansion video if you are interested this weekend.

I just bought this and thank you so much for this video. Did you make any modifications since buying this? Are you still using it?

Omg I have the same one and need to expand asap. It's way too small for my 6 chickens. I am debating buying another one and just connecting them!

We though about that also, I picked materials at Home Depot though and am going to build up the coop with that. The cost of materials is just easer on the wallet. We will make a new video about that next. Hope it turns out good =)

Roosting bars on The floor even with the nesting boxes 🚫 Ok for 2-3 chickens in the city... Otherwise spend a little more money and get something decent.

Great review. Just bought our first chicks-4. Looks as if this coop will be fine for that number. Are you still happy with yours and is it holding up well as a result of your painting it?

They use the same nesting box anyway. And I have 6 silkies in mine with plenty of room

That's awesome I'm glad they have plenty of room. seams every one suggests that the three nesting boxes work great. =)

@@happyhomecrafts I have a nesting box with 10 areas. They will wait or lay their egg outside the first 3 and never go in the others, that’s with 12 hens. They like to lay where eggs are already laid

Would you recommend painting before putting together?

Is it easy to move? If you have to move around the yard?
@happyhomecrafts2 жыл бұрын
No not how I did it. I built it with chicken wire buried into the ground so predator's cant dig underneath the walls. I suppose you could build it and add wheels if you want to move it around. I ended up adding an other side to give them room underneath. kzbin.info/www/bejne/omfHiGV6hLuZl7M Hope that helps and have a blessed day. =)
@user-vi1ee4ht9i Жыл бұрын
how do you anchor the coop? What material?
@happyhomecrafts Жыл бұрын
I used some chicken wire on the bottom boards and buried the chicken wire so that predator's could not dig under the base. This also worked as a anchor. =)

can you make such coop with your own? from zero
@happyhomecrafts3 жыл бұрын
I Could, but with wood prices currently and the time involved, it was way more cost effective to with the kit. This was pretty quick to build and fun. Hope you have a blessed day my friend.
@Travosphere2 жыл бұрын
It can fit 8 chickens comfortably.. I'm not sure why you think it can't just because of there only being 3 laying boxes.
