Nope. FAT32, exFAT, macOS extended or APFS are all fine. Not sure for NTFS. Ext formats are a Linux thing, iOS doesn’t recognise them.

Well yea ofc generic wont work when the official adapter is 40$ and basically is a computer on its own.. lightning adapters are unreasonably wasteful. Kill it.

Hard drive doesn’t work because for HDDs the spin up current required is higher than the limit apple set for USB-otg. I’m not sure about USB-C iPad pros but for lightning devices it is the case. There is no way to connect a portable hard drive to lightning USB-otg. alternatives are using USB power data splitter cable and get power from somewhere else, powered HDD which really is just what I just said, or an external SSD with less current requirement Tested max current I can obtain from the iPad is ~170mA, the sample rate of usb tester is not great and error margin is ~10mA, but with that amount of current it won’t even maintain an already spun hard disk or most of SATA and PCIe SSDs.

6:10 I know this video is old but you can use a external hard drive if you have a powered usb hub or use another usb hub with power delivery port and have it plugged into a power bank.

for hard drive, I suggest try format as FAT32/ExFAT. For my previous experience with apple/mac, usually they dont do well with NTFS storage (which the the most common formatting for window external hard drive.

You need a power Hub other then this connector charging cable for hdd beacuse they need more power around 5watt to start working and hdd goes upto 12 watt, but the SSD will work with this lightning to usb adapter you also have to power the secondary port with lightning charging cable to power up SSD

Hard Disk Drive not getting detected in iPhone because the default format type will be NTFS. If you reformat it as ex-FAT or FAT partition type it will be working.

For me NTFS works using powered USB Hub. I used iPhone XR and iOS 16.2

No, all iPhones are USB2, iPad pros with lightning connector can work with USB3, no idea why they don’t use the same technology on iPhone

Hello,I bough recently the usb camera adapter from Apple so I could use for videos and songs transfer from my iPad to a usb flash drive. It works perfectly but when I connect my usb to my car so I could listen or watch those files , I see that every file I transferred is duplicated. One file is ok,playable but the second one is not supported. When I connect the usb back to my iPad I see only the one file. How can I stop this ? How to stop my iPad from duplicating the files?

I found a possible fix for if an SSD Drive is not recognised. I plugged in my Samsung T7 SSD drive, and it was not recognised. This is how I got it to recognise the SSD drive: I plugged in a USB flash drive which it recognised, I then unplugged the USB flash drive, and when I plugged in my SSD drive it now recognised it. I have a iPhone 13pro max 256gb

It does, yet its very expensive and wasteful. Inside this adapter is an entire computer thats doing all the decoding and transferring of files. Basically if you wanna use this to transfer files, use wifi sharing apps instead with your laptop or usb c type device (so much faster). If you wanna use this for keyboard/mouse, get a bluetooth one. This device has no use case just because of the price... all that because the ipad 9 is fitted with a lightning connecter... thats why its so cheap I guess.. still an amazing ipad for the price..
