Great review. I never really played the original game of atelier escha & logy for the PS3, so i'm going to buy the dx version of atelier escha & logy for the nintendo switch instead. I'm also thinking about getting atelier ayesha and atelier shallie of the dusk trilogy too and i'm also thinking about getting nelke and the legendary alchemists when it's on sale for the nintendo switch too. I also really love the art style of the atelier dusk trilogy games too. ^_^

@@JRPGJungle Actually to be totally honest half the reason I am having this debate with myself is I got Rorona on the Switch thanks to your review/comparison video. Before that, I have always played the Atelier games on Playstation (like the Rorona 3 pack). But now I love playing Rorona on the go.

After quitting Ayesha before the true ending, due to my complaints about the synthesis system and the balance curve of the game, I was suspicious about EschatoLogy. However, it ended up being amazingly well balanced. I haven't played the Arland series yet, but if they're similar to this one, that's good to hear - though I've heard that the timing is much stricter, so I'll have to be on guard. In this one, however, the fact that they force free time on you is a great help. It gives you the opportunity to go out of your way to prepare for future time periods in whatever way you feel necessary. Maybe grind a few more levels, maybe collect more from a certain area that you're running out of items from, maybe create a bunch of high quality items you'll use later, maybe farm for endgame traits. By prepping in advance, it made the final year much easier, as I had the level I wanted, almost all endgame traits collected already, and high quality versions of weapons and armor already complete - to the point that I actually never needed to redo many of them before the final boss rush at all, and completed the game on hard without top-tier gear at all, just with top-tier traits on penultimate-tier gear. Something I repeated later in both Shallie and Ryza. Wonderfully balanced game. Oh, and the intro theme song is the best in any Atelier.

This was the first Atelier game I bought on the PSN. It was a decent game. I liked the battle system and the characters. I played the Escha route and ended up getting the bad ending. One of these days, I'll go back to it and try to get a better ending. Anyways, good review. I can't wait for the next review.

who would have thought that a time limit actually could be fun and makes sense, gameplaywise? there are an incredible amount of gameplay mechanics in this that work so well together, it really makes me wonder why they moved away from them in later games. this game is just very well made and thought out! only thing ayesha (which I loved!) did better is the size of the areas. this here are defenitely to small - in a way that sometimes all the enemies come rushing to you when you enter, because there is just not enough space!

I only ever played Sophie on vita as it was a free plus game, and I liked Logy and his Japanese VA is one of my favourites, so that is the only reason I got this game, just to play as him. Im playing the game on PS5 and the game feels very much like a PS3 game, I probably won't play as Esca, as Im not into those cute high pitched girls, but am enjoying Logy's route

I'm playing Mana Khemia right now, and it's easily my favorite Atelier game from the ones I've played, which were just 3: Annie, Firis and Mana Khemia itself. Was going to try out the Iris trilogy but it kinda looked like they're simpler versions of MK in almost every aspect, so instead I was trying to look for a later game, but Firis left a big bad impression on what I should expect for the 3D games. I did not enjoy Firis at all lol! I'm not against moe, I'm just against boring battle systems and mindlessly grindy crafting mechanics. The side characters were ok, but I constantly wanted Firis to shut up. But from this review, Escha & Logy seem like a revisit to Mana Khemia and Iris, I just don't know how similar the battle system is, though the crafting seems like a evolution. Mana Khemia has hands down one the best battle systems I've seen in a turn based RPG to date, it's very complex but the game takes it's time to teach everything from head to toe in a very natural way. Units can throw time cards with different effects on the battle timeline, management of 6 different characters at once with constant switching in and out for offense or defence, AoE skills based on the position of the cards on the timeline, and a lot more, plus the lack of possibility to level grind makes the game very well balanced, as you'll always be at the current "recommended level". Just the actual crafting itself is a bit lacking. Despite it having a very welcome mass synth that repeats the last synthesis you did as long as you have materials for it, crafting items is as complex as matching colors. You can't control (or at least not to my knowledge) which traits goes onto consumables and ingredients synthesis at all. There are effect cards you gain from your allies for crafting, but they're very situational and most of the times not useful at all, and they all just influence the quality. I might've disliked Firis in general, but the crafting system is a lot more interesting if just for crafting a small amount of items. What I want to know is, are my expectations on the right direction if I think E&L leans more towards Iris and MK, or is Firis really the perfect example of what I should expect from the 3D games?

Agree, mana khemia 1 dan 2 also my favorite atelier series. I play it since ps2 era. I am a little bit disappointed with the graphics and system of the modern atelier series. But have you played Ryza 1 and 2? I think its the best modern atelier games, i really enjoy it. I think it sits beside the mana khemia series
@Hambs23
@Hambs23 3 жыл бұрын
@@tanbilly7723 Hello. Oof, my long ass comments hurts to read sometimes. But thank you for doing so. And about that, after writting that comment I finished Escha & Logy, Aeysha, played through most of Shallie, and I'd say about 40% of Ryza 1. Got stuck in a very difficult boss in Shallie, and have no idea where to go in Ryza. They were all great. I love the crafting system and stories of the Dusk series, and I really enjoy how quick everything is in Ryza (tho the atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired). And although I never finished Mana Khemia, I still think both the story and battle system of that game are way more fun than the others. But I've come to apprecieate the more laid down tone of the newer games.

The dx version runs at a more stable framerate than the ps vita version and adds in a run button and a battle speed up feature. I don't remember if there was any added dlc for the ps vita version, but if there was, its also included in the dx version. The dx version also runs at a higher resolution, but that is to be expected.

Ultimately I came to love Ayesha the most out of the Dusk trilogy. Escha & Logy at least to me, is the weakest because it borrows too much from Arland, a series that while I enjoyed, feels very outdated nowadays, and the task system limited progression too much for my liking, in comparison to Ayesha which for me, everything flowed smoothly and almost seamless most of the time. Its a great game, but it tries too hard to mix new and old elements together, when it should have improvised what Ayesha already put on the table instead of limiting it. This is the one Dusk game I have issues coming back to. It just doesn't flow as smoothly as the rest.
@JRPGJungle
@JRPGJungle 4 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, I really liked Escha and Logy's gameplay but I do find it interesting how different it felt to Ayesha time-wise in this one. It was a bit like being back in Arland rather than in the next Dusk game, which I don't personally mind, but is an interesting choice :3
