Such a wicked album! Hot Line remains majorly underrated and buried late in the track list.
@danielvysocky27163 жыл бұрын
I was just listening to "Hot Line" two days ago and it is such an awesome tune. I agree with Iommi that the Beastie Boys, via Rick Rubin, took that riff and used it for "Fight For Your Right To Party" as re-read Iommi's autobiography this past week. Anyway, later today I'm going to my local and playing a singular set of back to back Ozzy-Dio-Gillen Sabbath for my friend John during happy hour. My friend John is truly a jazz virtuoso and has an appreciation for early Sabbath and Iommi in particular and we like to introduce one another music we are not to familiar with (in his case with me Mahavishnu Orchestra and Funkadelic). A few weeks ago I played him a few Dio era Sabbath cuts and he loved them but the Gillen era tracks floored him. He was listening with fresh ears and with zero bias so that was a welcome surprise. Today a set of 12 songs starting with "Symptom Of The Universe"-"Turn Up The Night"-"Thrashed". I haven't played him "Killing The Priest" yet I know he'll be knocked out this afternoon.

@terryjohnson52753 жыл бұрын
Glad to have watched this before ordering either of them - I've already got the Live at Hammersmith so dont think I'll bother with the Heaven and Hell, however the Live at Portland sounds essential so I'll be going for the Mob Rules, which I prefer to Heaven and Hell anyways. Like Chris I have the video release of Black and Blue, thankfully I still have a VHS player that works so i could copy the video to DVD and split the Sabbath and BOC sets , although the quality isnt as great as a remastered reissued version would /should have been its ok for my own viewing pleasure. There was an interveiwe Eddie Trunk did with Tony thats up on you tube elsewhere where Tony confirmed he is bot really annoyed about SlapBAck coming out but that it also has Ronnie playing bass on it, although somewhere else Geezer seems to have said he's playing bass on it - however I've not heard or seen that.

Thank you guys for reviewing these reissues, so those of us who are not die hard fans or collectors of your range could decide to go for them or not. It is pricey (and usually there is space and/or spouse limitations present) to check if the sound is better or not. Now we know in advance thanks to your expertise. Personally, having both albums as LP’s (as vinyl was originally called) and Universal 2010 deluxe reissues is perfestly fine with me. On Heaven and Hell alternative Yugoslav cover is given which is actually a version of a back of the cover. I always wondered why, as record companies changed covers which did not in someone’s mind fit with political and ideological premises of the country. For instance, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) by Simple Minds lost its cross and was redesigned. Heaven and Hell posed no threat to the system, angels were fine and smoking actually encouraged. As much as I know already first Yugoslav issue had a mark “srebrna” meaning silver. For a hard rock band that was a real success to count on so many buyers. After so many decades, having a different cover makes it special.

Hammersmith was four shows, but only three were used to build the album. The limited Hammersmith album was a US release, so it was added to the 2010 remasters because those were UK releases. Obviously, people who are interested in the material will buy it, wherever they are. But officially, the 2010 H&H and MR deluxe albums were only released in the UK, along with the deluxe Dehumanizer. The latter was then released in the US, without changes, in 2019. These new H&H and MR versions are officially the first US release of deluxe editions, never mind that most American fans, including me, already have the 2010 ones. I think they based the bonus material on what they thought American fans had/hadn't heard, however unrealistic that is in practice. Also, Heaven in Hartford has mostly Ozzy-era songs, so anyone who picks that CD up should know, those are what's missing from the H&H bonus tracks. Chris, I assume you've heard the DrainSTH albums? They're okay, and Maria does a good job. She seems to have retired from singing and performing after marrying Tony. Let's hope she, or someone, makes his tapes available, as you suggest. One last thing, supposedly the master tapes for Born Again are missing, which is why the album has never been remixed. The 2nd (3rd?) generation ones have been remastered, but that only goes so far, obviously...
@chrisalo29893 жыл бұрын
Oh for sure, VERY familiar with Drain STH, saw them a few times live, both with and without Sabbath. This is a true story. I literally bumped into Tony Iommi at Ozzfest 1997 while walking to my seats. He was watching Drain STH play live, Tony was watching from the side of the stage. I always assumed that they hadn't hooked up yet at that point, but he definitely had his eye on her!

I preordered the vinyls of these because I don't have them, and I love these records. Glad to know I am STILL waiting for them to ship so some people that have every version of these albums can bleat and moan that there is overlap between all the editions they own purely for completisms sake. Hey man, I dunno, maybe just pick the one edition that's set up the way you like it, and leave some for the rest of the fans. I know, you guys have the CDs, so you're not my problem. But if anyone is having similar conversations regarding the vinyl editions, kindly sit on a rusty nail.
