And, though not surprised, was glad to hear Chris' say he listened to each not only on his top sound system setup but also in his car which is where many of us listen to our music. "Born Again" is a must to be revisited as: 1) because it has remained essentially untouched 2) the album was not well received at the time but has aged incredibly well. It's more stoner rock than the first 3 Sabbath albums.

@danielvysocky2716
@danielvysocky2716 3 жыл бұрын
I was just listening to "Hot Line" two days ago and it is such an awesome tune. I agree with Iommi that the Beastie Boys, via Rick Rubin, took that riff and used it for "Fight For Your Right To Party" as re-read Iommi's autobiography this past week. Anyway, later today I'm going to my local and playing a singular set of back to back Ozzy-Dio-Gillen Sabbath for my friend John during happy hour. My friend John is truly a jazz virtuoso and has an appreciation for early Sabbath and Iommi in particular and we like to introduce one another music we are not to familiar with (in his case with me Mahavishnu Orchestra and Funkadelic). A few weeks ago I played him a few Dio era Sabbath cuts and he loved them but the Gillen era tracks floored him. He was listening with fresh ears and with zero bias so that was a welcome surprise. Today a set of 12 songs starting with "Symptom Of The Universe"-"Turn Up The Night"-"Thrashed". I haven't played him "Killing The Priest" yet I know he'll be knocked out this afternoon.

Chris is the ultimate Dio era Sabbath historian. Wendy should run the draft of the long awaited RJD biography by him for a fact check. I’m so glad this channel devotes so much to Dio’s career. Regarding a dream set list, I would definitely include several songs from Dehumanizer, such as Letters From Earth 🌏 Suns Of The Father, Too Late and Double The Pain from The Devil You Know as deep cuts. Country Girl and SOTSC are the ultimate although very different songs. Cheers 🌊

For me, if I want to physically buy a reissue of anything, there has to be a pretty big book or something that details something I don’t know about the release being reissued. I’ll listen to a remastered album on Spotify, but a lot of the times I don’t know the difference between that remaster and the previous one. Great show as always guys.

Glad to have watched this before ordering either of them - I've already got the Live at Hammersmith so dont think I'll bother with the Heaven and Hell, however the Live at Portland sounds essential so I'll be going for the Mob Rules, which I prefer to Heaven and Hell anyways. Like Chris I have the video release of Black and Blue, thankfully I still have a VHS player that works so i could copy the video to DVD and split the Sabbath and BOC sets , although the quality isnt as great as a remastered reissued version would /should have been its ok for my own viewing pleasure. There was an interveiwe Eddie Trunk did with Tony thats up on you tube elsewhere where Tony confirmed he is bot really annoyed about SlapBAck coming out but that it also has Ronnie playing bass on it, although somewhere else Geezer seems to have said he's playing bass on it - however I've not heard or seen that.

Thank you guys for reviewing these reissues, so those of us who are not die hard fans or collectors of your range could decide to go for them or not. It is pricey (and usually there is space and/or spouse limitations present) to check if the sound is better or not. Now we know in advance thanks to your expertise. Personally, having both albums as LP’s (as vinyl was originally called) and Universal 2010 deluxe reissues is perfestly fine with me. On Heaven and Hell alternative Yugoslav cover is given which is actually a version of a back of the cover. I always wondered why, as record companies changed covers which did not in someone’s mind fit with political and ideological premises of the country. For instance, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) by Simple Minds lost its cross and was redesigned. Heaven and Hell posed no threat to the system, angels were fine and smoking actually encouraged. As much as I know already first Yugoslav issue had a mark “srebrna” meaning silver. For a hard rock band that was a real success to count on so many buyers. After so many decades, having a different cover makes it special.

Hammersmith was four shows, but only three were used to build the album. The limited Hammersmith album was a US release, so it was added to the 2010 remasters because those were UK releases. Obviously, people who are interested in the material will buy it, wherever they are. But officially, the 2010 H&H and MR deluxe albums were only released in the UK, along with the deluxe Dehumanizer. The latter was then released in the US, without changes, in 2019. These new H&H and MR versions are officially the first US release of deluxe editions, never mind that most American fans, including me, already have the 2010 ones. I think they based the bonus material on what they thought American fans had/hadn't heard, however unrealistic that is in practice. Also, Heaven in Hartford has mostly Ozzy-era songs, so anyone who picks that CD up should know, those are what's missing from the H&H bonus tracks. Chris, I assume you've heard the DrainSTH albums? They're okay, and Maria does a good job. She seems to have retired from singing and performing after marrying Tony. Let's hope she, or someone, makes his tapes available, as you suggest. One last thing, supposedly the master tapes for Born Again are missing, which is why the album has never been remixed. The 2nd (3rd?) generation ones have been remastered, but that only goes so far, obviously...

Oh for sure, VERY familiar with Drain STH, saw them a few times live, both with and without Sabbath. This is a true story. I literally bumped into Tony Iommi at Ozzfest 1997 while walking to my seats. He was watching Drain STH play live, Tony was watching from the side of the stage. I always assumed that they hadn't hooked up yet at that point, but he definitely had his eye on her!

I love the deluxe 2cd of Mob Rules from 2010 cause of disc 2. The new deluxe version has different deluxe material on disc 2. The original H&H deluxe from 2010 was lacking with the extras. Also love the newest Dehumanizer 2cd / 2LP deluxe versions.

Been to more shows at the Portland Memorial Colosseum than I can count. I actually seen Sabbath there on the Sabotage tour. Still have the ticket stub.Memories of Ozzy with the strobe machine gun during Iron Man. To be 15 again. Pretty cool they released a recording from the fabled arena.

The liner notes are pretty cool with all those pictures. I haven't seen that "red sabbath" image in a long time (the lucifer demon over the red and white background from the Mob Rules booklet), and that was the first time I've seen the black sabbath cross with horns poking out of it (same booklet) that I have on a poster I picked up probably 15 or 20 years ago. Great review as always, guys.

I hope they do the Paranoid and Volume 4 style boxes for the rest of the Ozzy era at least.

Even more over compressed, I'll stick to my OG copies since they have good dynamic range. Agree with Alo though, a remix of the albums would have been really cool to hear.

Excellent show, I really enjoyed this one! I picked up the Mob Rules vinyl reissue and the sound was excellent, and even though it doesn't have all the bonus tracks as the CD version, I grabbed it because I'd never had a vinyl copy. H&H - I have an original pressing, '96 remaster, and Rules of Hell remaster, as well as Hammersmith, so I couldn't justify buying it again. There just wasn't enough to entice me or make it worth it to me.

I totally agree. I much prefer the physical version. You pay more, but you get more. Also, I just purchased these two re-issues.

For those who are audiophiles, you need not to shy away from these Remasters. They are incredibly tastefully done and they simply aren’t just made louder. You can crank these loud!!!

Any bonus material, one thing that I like about reissues, remasters etc is that back in day there were outtakes that didn't make the album but released on remastered and reissued albums as a bonus material. So my question is are there additional outtakes? OK so they do explains what is the bonus material. "Live at Hammersmith Odeon" .

Great informative episode! But who remastered these new versions? Out of all the versions I prefer the 2010 versions remastered by Andy Pearce. Very warm and natural sounding. I have not heard these new ones yet.....on the fence because I love these albums, but nothing new here. Agree complete shows are the way to go with the bonus discs.

I preordered the vinyls of these because I don't have them, and I love these records. Glad to know I am STILL waiting for them to ship so some people that have every version of these albums can bleat and moan that there is overlap between all the editions they own purely for completisms sake. Hey man, I dunno, maybe just pick the one edition that's set up the way you like it, and leave some for the rest of the fans. I know, you guys have the CDs, so you're not my problem. But if anyone is having similar conversations regarding the vinyl editions, kindly sit on a rusty nail.
