Of course the delay was a nuisance, but apart from that the flight seemed very acceptable. People just love to criticise British Airways. The longhaul service is generally far superior to the dismal service usually offered by American carriers.

Very true. That said, I do think that BA’s decision to place 10 abreast on their 777s was a bit questionable. I thought the renovated 9 abreast 777s were perfectly fine. I guess we can blame Alex Cruz for that!

I'm not too sure. The service did look quite poor compared to the other transatlantic competitors. No snack with the drink service, no bread roll with dinner, poorer food at breakfast. They are all differences to the product BA offered pre-covid. If you look at Virgin Atlantic, for example, you will see a far superior product

I agree. AA is pretty poor for transatlantic flights, even business isn’t great. The delay was due to cleaning staff at Phoenix which isn’t anything to do with BA. I personally think Virgins food isn’t great on premium economy or business compared to BA.

@@Ginge1164 I agree. I did not get the nicest service from the flight attendants on AA from Chicago to London. But I was in economy, it likely would've been better in business class, but still not as good as many non-US carriers. I've heard that even United's business is better than AA's and that United's Polaris business class is pretty good

Not sure you can blame BA for the delays surely cleaning of the aircraft is the responsibility of the handling agent at the departure airport, regarding the IFE how many films can you watch on a 9 hour flight particularly when it's a night flight, are you really going to be that disappointed that you didn't get a salty snack with the first drink, the main meal looked perfectly acceptable and in my view better than what you would get on an American carrier, at least the alcohol is free on BA. Having flown transatlantic on a number of carriers both American and British, BA win hands down.

I flew this exact route and flight number in Jan, before the plane had a new retrofitted club world and economy. Even the new mood lighting in economy makes a massive, pleasant difference imo. But I can't help but think the older seats were nicer lol? Wider, for sure. Also its funny when I see this flight being 100% full. My flight literally had less than 30 people on the whole plane LOL.

I flew from Houston to Heathrow on a BA 777-300 recently. The legroom made it clear for me that I will not be doing that again. Granted I am older and need to stretch my legs from time to time, but it was rough. No one should be forced to sit in those cramped seats for 10 hours. No mood lighting on my flight either. Both the flight and return flights were delayed by an hour and half due to BA staffing issues.

At $491 R/T you should have no complaints. I paid last year R/T IAH-IST-RIX and that was a COVID half price anomaly. Your deal is almost as good.

I've taken this route several times. I personally would give them another chance. I've experienced nothing but good service on the route. Not that this is an excuse, but flight crews all over the world are exhausted. They've worked through a pandemic, passengers refusing to comply with masks and other crew instructions. As a frequent flyer myself, I've seen some crews treated like absolutely trash. Not to mention most of these crews are experiencing delays daily like you did in this flight so they are exhausted. Anyways, great video as always, but again maybe give them a try again sometime in a year or two. I'm sure the service will improve.

I have flown US to UK a lot over the last twenty years as one of very few direct flights from Phoenix, and I have always had good service from the flight staff and mostly the check in desk. I agree with you about how some entitled passengers treat them like personal servants and are very rude to them. My main complaint is that nearly all of their flights are delayed which is frustrating, and if you have connections and/or train tickets pre-booked you either lose that ticket or pay to change it. Also, they are not the cheapest tickets out there so I think along the way people will be looking to cheaper prices and go with Virgin, Delta even if means getting a connection flight.

Nice vid. I have flown BA several times over the years between the US and the UK, and once to Africa. Overall, they're a pretty good global airline, but I've found that the product and experience varies greatly depending on both the route and the equipment. I've not flown on their 777 yet, only their 747's and A380's transatlantic, but if you're willing to spend some extra $ (for either biz class or premium coach seating), you do get a much better flight experience. For the $491 roundtrip PHX - MAD, I'd say you got what you paid for 🙂

Let’s see. First, the plural of aircraft is aircraft. Next, judging a flight by its loading procedure due to a non-BA cleaning crew in a largely non-international airport seems misplaced. $59 doesn’t sound that steep when you could otherwise get an aisle or, worse, a middle seat. On a clear day, approaching LHR over the British countryside is glorious . . . from a window seat. If you’re lucky and the pattern is busy, they may take you over the Thames Estuary and approach LHR from the east so low that you can clearly see HMS Belfast and the Eye. The big advantage of a ten-hour flight is that you avoid a four-hour flight, a two or three-hour connection in Dallas, Chicago or New York and another five or six-hour flight over the water. I’m hoping for the PHX-LHR flight later this year. I don’t care if I get a three legged stool and a seat belt made from an old Boy Scout belt. I don’t care if the in-flight entertainment is nothing but Ozzie & Harriet re-runs. I don’t care if there is food, water or mousse. My sole concern is landing safely, taking the Tube into Victoria and stepping out into the sun / gloom / rain that is London.

I have been to London six times all on British Airways except one flight home. It was an emergency of sorts (had to leave early, did way to much and I was suffering) and going home on BA would cost too much so they put me on American Airlines. I had to fly out in either T2 or T3 it was horrible. Once I got to my gate I was a prisoner, it you left to go to the facilities or get a snack they took your passport. The flight itself was ok but the food was horrible. I have never been disappointed with BA, they are my airline of choice when I go to London!

I give BA a 7 out of 10 for my experience with them. My flights from PHX to Doha through LHR and back were pretty comfy. The cabin crew were great, the food was great. The actual flying experience was top notch. Customer service via telephone was a tremendous let down. While in Doha my host family experienced a medical emergency the day of my return flights leaving me stranded at their house alone with no phone service and spotty internet. I had no internet access, my phone died during the last of 4 calls I made to BA to reschedule or arrange assistance to the airport. I don’t speak Arabic, so I was at a loss trying to get a cab. I wasn’t able to reach BA via phone for 2 more days, no one answered the damned phone! The messages kept telling me to call back at different hours. By that time I was able to reach someone by phone I had well missed my return flight, and BA was not sympathetic at all. In all it cost me an additional $1600 to get back home. I was not pleased, to say the least.

Interesting review. I think you got good value for money but I agree that a dinner roll might have been the difference between a full feeling vs still wanting a bit. Presumably you paid for the window for some video but personally I always get an aisle seat for a long haul flight firstly for the complete freedom to get up and stretch/ use the toilet and also the general sense of not being as closed in. Anyway... back to the food... lesson learned to always bring some biscuits for the occasion when the amount of food falls a bit short of one's appetite.

Sounds like someone was expecting business class service and food selection in economy. I fly BA all the time, all over the world and never have any issues. If you want more this and more that, upgrade! The departure was not a BA issue. Sky Harbor employs the cleaning crew. So you can blame them, not BA.

Sky harbor does not hire the cleaners lol. BA pays a contract company that cleans the aircraft. If there are issues with cleanliness it’s probably because BA hired a cheap contract company with low standards

I have my status with B.A., and don't like the fact that the flight between Phoenix & London is on the 777-200! B.A. flights from Denver / Las Vegas / Dallas are the newer A350. Though I fly Business class...would still prefer an A350.

I used to fly a lot of many hour (~14 hour) journeys to Asia. My company would give me the cash to fly economy on a major carrier or I could shop around and fly business class on lesser carriers. I chose to fly business class, but knowing that I wouldn't be flying like Singapore Airlines or the like, I would usually stop at a sandwich shop and buy a footlong turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich to bring on the plane. This would tide me over til landing, lol. This was all pre 9/11. Now, I would typically find an all you can eat salad buffet near the airport that I was flying out of, and would head to the airport 4 hours early and eat my fill. The airplane food was as my dad would say, "just enough to keep you alive", lol.

For an economy class fare that you were on your service seemed normal. The delays are expected anywhere. Always leave time available for a connecting flight. You may have chosen not to have the dinner roll; and forgot about this.The breakfast service may not be a full breakfast in economy class depending on how soon the flight is going to land.

Having been on a few BA long haul the food is awful. It doesn't matter how many complaints you make and suggest improvement you always get the same yukky food. Short haul is where BA are superior. That's my opinion

Decrepit and drafty old bird, even in World Comfort seats -- nothing worked, IFE was problematic, and the same surly crew was onboard. Sadly, BA is living on its prior reputation. A330 is quieter than 787 (CF6 vs GEnx/Trent 1000), so that shows over engineering at Boeing. 777 is reasonably quiet in the front, but in the back it sounds like 10K RPM. Haven’t flown the A350 yet.

Its time for airlines to retire 777-200 from flights which lasts more than 6-7 hours. Flew Air France from Delhi to Paris, last Sunday in similar aircraft. not very best of experience.

Thank Buddha you didn't travel in business class as the food isn't much better there, and you would have paid a lot more. I don't what people expect on a metal tube at 36000 ft, the food would of been loaded in Phoenix, so the crew can only give out what is on the plane, as for the crew, you can't really expect too much after they all got screwed over by BA during the pandemic, sacked or worse working conditions, more work for half the money, plus the airlines are trying to recover their losses from the last 2 yrs, so are cutting everything back, food, crew, planes,
