I've heard tales from some of the old timers trying to photograph the Niagaras in their last days that they hated that air horn. They'd set up and get nothing but the diesels all day and decide to call it a day or relocate but notice dispatch had lined the signals for another train and figure they'd wait for one last train and then hear the air horn in the distance and thinking it was yet another diesel toss the gear in the car and drive off only to see their target go steaming past in the rearview mirror.

Nice review James, that engine is very beautiful! I noticed the bell mounted on the side by the side rods. The SD70M-2 has a bell placed in that exact location except this one is steam.😉 Great job again James, hope your move goes well, have a good night.😊❤️🌙👍🏻👍🏻

This is a great model. I just wish BLI had provided the double (tandem) connecting rods between the second and third driving wheels. MTH managed to do this for their HO scale N&W "J" class locomotive model.

James have you seen or did this engine with Paragon 3 start stop start stop multiple times when running? Evidently im told the Paragon 3 decoders are too voltage sensitive and constantly resets itself causing intermittent start stops? 2 of my friends C+O Paragon 3s do this?

Does this have a WATER SCOOP💧Effect? The NY CENTRAL Niagara was able to SCOOP Water while it was on the MOVE and had a Spectacular Splash effect as it went by the WATER TRACK PAN. And the location of the BELL 🔔 is also accurate. 👌 👍🏼

I got an issue with mine. A few months ago, I bought it second hand and after I bought it and ran it on my local club's layout, everything seemed to be fine. That is until it suddenly took off at full steam with no control. I did catch it and brought it over to the work desk to reset it. It did solve the runaway issue but since then all it does is make the normal sounds but absolutely no movement. I read that there are possibly two decoders, one for the main and the other for the motor. According to the website, there is a page mode (motor decoder) and a direct mode (main decoder) and I ask if do you know how to switch in between the two modes to program the decoders? If not, should I send in the engine to BLI so that they can figure out what is going on with my engine?

BLI seems to make very finicky locos. I had to send my Niagara back to the shop 2 times. I am pulling a track cleaning car which has greatly helped with stuttering and random shutdowns. It is a great looking Loco though, im glad its finally working properly. Running it on a NCE powercab.
