Gotta admit that is one sweet sounding bass. It kills me though, in 1977 I went Downtown Orlando to the music store and bought a brand new Fender Jazz Bass with case for $404.00. Sunburst... Oh how I loved that guitar. But nowadays I just can't see paying $1799 for a Bass.
@nathanserber31038 жыл бұрын
404 dollars is $1600 (usd) adjusted for inflation today, so the price really hasn't changed all that much
@joekainrad81478 жыл бұрын
$404.00 in 1997 is about $1600 in today's dollars. Would it have been unreasonable to spend 450ish back then compared to the 400?

Back in the day Fender would not have let a defective bass (Large knot in the body) out of the factory, well.... they might have after they put a custom color paint job on it.

Looks like a creative design that includes just about everything that has been learned since Clarence first designed the electric, fretted bass. I am glad to see they have included string through body. All the best sounding basses and guitars I have owned had string through body. A thorough and articulate review. I would love to try one of these and compare it to my 78 Musicman StingRay, which is currently my favourite bass.

@ResidentRob8 жыл бұрын
the previous Elites were the early 80's and Fender's first attempt to do actives. I think they were good quality I know people who like them, I think the market just wasn't interested. the American Elites are pretty much identical to the American Deluxe except the truss rod is easier to access.

I have owned my '83 Elite P bass for 24 years. It was awesome in '93 when I bought it and it is sounds awesome now. I sold it once and bought it back. It had been converted to fretless (ala Jaco style) by the previous owner and was my only bass until recently when I found a hamer 2tek and MM Bongo 4. As excellent as the newer basses are, the Fender is still not going anywhere.

I've owned traditional passive P-basses and an American Deluxe (which is basically the Elite), they are totally different animals. I find the Deluxe is a little better for heavy rock because you can EQ it to cut through more than traditional P-bass and the amp would allow, it has a lot more presence.

He’s not. What’s happening is the people saying that want others to think “oh wow, your ears are so good that you can tell he’s slightly out of tune!”. It starts with one person saying that then others follow suit by making the same comment, so that they don’t feel like they have inadequate hearing. “Your intonation is messed up bro, you’re about 2 cents off the mark once you hit the 15th fret on the G”. People are weird.

Bass combines the drums and guitar, its necessary to make the band sound good, to me i love playing bass live as you just feel so powerful with that much of the sonic spectrum completely under your control, the sound of bass to me is rich and really beautiful, i love guitar too but i gravitated towards bass once i broke the "shred" mentality and got more into just grooving and playing what the song needs, rather than just what i wanted. . As for bass all sounding the same, it really doesn't everything from the strings, to the wood, to the pickups to the players technique all change the tone, that's like saying that all guitar sounds the same, a strat sounds different to a les paul, just like a jazz bass sounds different to a P-bass. Also if you don't dig slap bass i really don't understand you, slap solos are awesome. And as for figuring it out, just jam on a bass some time with a drummer, just play some royal blood or something, trust me you'll see why some people prefer bass if you play it right :)
