Check out Kim Cricks review before buying. The brand had serious issues including degradation in the tube. The cat painting turned out great and showed the best way to use this kind of product.. selected effects within a work combined with normal colors.

I think Kim reviewed a different set from them? Still worth checking out for sure :D

My two red tubes all faded to a blue, so disappointing, made the choice to never buy from this brand again.

I loved these paints and clicked on your link to order them but the price really surprised me. I don’t want them that much!!! I have too many supplies anyways! I would have grabbed them for $30, but $78 is really too steep when I have so many mica paints.

Very instructive review! Having all these different applications of the paints with the different test paintings and swatches is very useful to see how they can be used! I am not really much of a shimmer paint person, so these are not for me, and after hearing about other people in art KZbin comment sections mentioning issues with them over time, I have to say they are extra not for me. You cat mage is exquisite, though!!
@EveBolt2 жыл бұрын
If they were available open stock, I think it would be more appealing. It's easier to accept the issues with a paint if it's a 7-8$ tube rather than a 80$ set.

@@EveBolt I think it was Kimberly who was one of many people pointing out the inconsistencies in providing pigment infos on top of the wild lack of lightfastness. I myself can verify, I have one of these beautiful layered colours and red disappeared not only from paper but also from the tube 😅 even if I were using them only for digital copies - my paint simply dispeared from the tube after ~7 months.

Wondering if this company is the same as Rockwell ( a ‘Canadian’ company) ? Thanks for the review!

Yes it is, the Super Vision Chinese ingredients are just imported to Canada for distribution through a new seller.
@lindyashford77442 жыл бұрын
The leaf painting is very effective. The fish painting left me with the question of how well do they work with an inked overlay. I liked this painting but wished the drawing element was not blurred by the mica pigments. As a little mica seems to go a long way I wonder if these are better suited to more decorative effects? Maybe sections of an already painted wall…. I just cannot work out what they are aimed at! Even though the effects are beautiful. Under glass or in work for print the effects would be lost? Can they be used with a permanent medium is another question…. or for textile work….
@EveBolt2 жыл бұрын
These are all good questions! I think they work well for embellishments on a piece, but you're right that it loses all the effect if one makes prints of it...
@jennw68092 жыл бұрын
As others have noted, this brand is questionable, as other paints from this brand changed hue for Kim Crick in the tube. So I would say, use these fast and maybe only in the sketchbook. They are really pretty though, and I wonder if I can make mixes like them with other mica paints! Cause these are too expensive! I thought this brand was cheaper.
@KimberlyCrick2 жыл бұрын
You can definitely make DIY mixtures like these by combining any of your watercolors, mica paints like Coliro/Finetec/Rubens or even mica powders along with dye inks like ecoline (fugitive, but cause extra vibrant color separation effects). I saw a few other KZbin videos talk about their problems with Super Vision's dyes fading in the tubes long term as well. I can remember at least Alice Lim and Jay Nathan also confirming that colors were completely disappearing within 6mo to a year after purchase. So sad!
@jennw68092 жыл бұрын

@@KimberlyCrick Ok... you're really emphasizing European brands... I am concentrating on American watercolors personally, it saves a lot of money! We have so many good paint makers here (can't say the same thing about paper though). I'm surprised you'd prioritize A. Gallo over tube paints, which are so much of a better value, but I know they are the hottest thing these days. I've definitely heard people complain about all the convenience mixes and questionable lightfastness in their line, though. Personally I don't see any reason to buy them, especially since I hate the smell of rosemary :-)

I have no idea why, but for some reason shimmer-paint isn’t a go-to for me, they end up clogging my water brushes like nothing else. Which sucks cuz Duochrome Autumn Mystery is one I love, I just rarely use it
@EveBolt2 жыл бұрын
I didn't know they did that to water brushes, good to know!! :D
@PinkWytchBytch2 жыл бұрын
@@EveBolt it’s the only thing I can think of that did it. Because that brush had worked just fine for nearly 8 months and I’d never had shimmer paint. I buy the one mentioned above and suddenly after my first time using it that brush nib just refuses to release any water now. I’ve tried everything and it just won’t work so I’m glad water brushes aren’t too expensive! Consider this a cautionary tale!

What do you suppose the lightfastness is on these things?
@EveBolt2 жыл бұрын
I would expect it to match the pigments'. It would be interesting to test these out for lightfastness though!
@KimberlyCrick2 жыл бұрын
I would expect fading after a few months on the three colors including PR146 Naphthol Red LFIII. Possibly more fading depending on any undisclosed dyes or fragility in the mica coatings (also undisclosed pigments that colorize the PW20 pearlescent white into pearl pink/green/blue). I had some problems with this brand, including pigments that normally don't fade a lot in other brands fading significantly (such as PY65 normally LFI-II performing as LFIII-IV in their pan sets). That being said, these are beautiful paints - I'd just personally limit them to sketchbooks (especially because the mica is nearly impossible to replicate in print reproduction).
