I wanted to kit our new house out with CCTV, and I knew that Smart CCTV was the only way to go. So, is the Eufy 2C Pro 2K Camera setup worth the money? In this video review, I'll set the system up and give you my thoughts after a couple of weeks of use.

Great video! Very thorough and clear. I got a eufy Cam2 system and its already payed for itself. Last week, after just 4 days of setting my cameras up, we had a unwanted visitor at home. He is a known person of the family, a relative thrice removed with a drug problem who appears every once in a while to ask my dad for money. At the moment I wasn’t at home. I was at my local Starbucks waiting in line to order when I got a notification. And who do I see in the footage? THAT GUY! We have such luck that one of my mother’s nephews has the same name and a very similar voice (what are the odds of that!). I saw through my camera overlooking my garden that my mom was on her way to open the door for this guy thinking it was her nephew. At that very moment I stormed out of the Starbucks and started YELLING at my mom through the two way audio system “DON’T OPEN THE DOOR! DON’T OPEN THE DOOR!!! ITS YOU KNOW WHO, DONT OPEN THE DOOR!!” Fortunately she listened to me (even though she had no idea where my voice was coming from and the “intruder” left. Surely he heard me too because I saw him hunching down trying to peek through the side of my door trying to figure out where my voice was coming from and how the hell did I found out about his presence. I’m hopeful this will deter him from coming back at least in a while. Soooo I’m very grateful that I had these cameras set up when this happened.

I have the Homebase 3 kit with 4 S330 cameras, and this thing is amazing. I was concerned about the range before as I have a brick house but it didn't turn out to be an issue. What I am going to do, however, is to use the 2C pro cameras as add-ons for the smaller spaces such as the porch and small patios, and leave the 4K cams for covering larger spaces. Unbelieve value.

Great review. The 1080p version is a great price at present, I’m tempted but keen to know how long the battery life is in practice. Also did you experience any issues with the wifi connection to the cameras through thick walls and how far was the base station from them?
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
Great questions - I'm definitely going to be making a more long-term review of this in a couple of months, as I've noticed a couple of things I want to include. A camera that I added to the network last (the other cameras had a 2 day headstart on it) is losing battery life much faster than the others. It's the one furthest away from the HomeBase, and is the only camera regularly on a 2 or 3 bar wifi signal, rather than the 4 of the others. I'm curious as to whether this is impacting it or not. In terms of thick walls, they've not been an issue, but distance from the HomeBase definitely is. 3 of the cameras are about 3 or 4 metres away in a straight line from the HomeBase. The last one is probably about 6 or 7 metres away. It works fine, but you're definitely going to want to try and position your HomeBase as central as you can.

Great video. Ive just bought exactly the same combo about a week ago here in New Zealand. So I'm going through the process just like you of feeling out the ins and outs of everything. Ive got a couple of comments which apply in NZ but maybe not elsewhere! 1. If a burglar finds your switchboard (mounted outside in NZ) turns off the main switch....there goes your wifi and eufy system! 2. I was told by someone that the system itself becomes a desireable item to burglars. And the cameras are easily unscrewable if mounted low. 3. Mine has a time lag of about two seconds before it starts recording...which is a bit of a pain in my case because the site is not wide open... Cheers

Very good review. One thing I don't quite agree with. Was mounting and screwing the camera to the mortar and not to the brick. The camera is only light so should be fine. But it's better to drill the brick then mortar in most cases.
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bradley. Yes, agreed that it's always better to go into brick where possible. These cameras are, as you say, extremely light, so I was happy to do that on this occasion, in order to mount the camera where I wanted it, as close to the top of the wall as possible. But in general, I'd always opt for the brick.

Very thorough review, well explained, thank you ! If you don't mind, I have a few questions I see that there is an usb connection on the home base, what is the use of that ? And why did you prefer to choose the Eufycam 2C PRO over the Eufycam 2 Pro ? And what type would you prefer to use inside the house ?
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Let me try and answer your questions. 1) Officially, it's so that you can charge the cameras using the included Micro USB cable (crazy but true) but Eufy apparently plan to allow external storage at some point. 2) The 2C Pro is smaller, and has a built in spotlight, which helps with colour night vision. 3) I wouldn't use any of these for indoors, but Eufy do offer a range of indoor cameras. I can't vouch for them, I've not used any, but I'm guessing similar technology?

Thanks for the review. A couple of questions.1. Are the cameras easy to steal as you seem to have one low down in your porch ?2. You seem to be using one in effect as a doorbell camera. Why did you make that choice and having lived with it would you now go for the doorbell option ?
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
1) Yes, technically easy to steal. If you're tall enough, you could just unscrew them from the mount, although you'd be filmed the entire time you were doing it. Putting them higher up would be better, just not an option due to the style of our house. 2) Bought a 3-cam set at the time when we moved in, so was more cost effective to use one as a doorbell cam. (though I do plan on putting a doorbell cam in soon) Works very well, plus we've spoke with some delivery drivers who say they refuse to ring smart doorbells (takes too long apparently), this way we still get notified of what's going on, even if people don't ring/knock the door.

thank you for the comprehensive review. I have been torn between the 2 pro and 2c pro. I live in a dimly lit neighborhood and hoping the spotlight might give me an edge...what's your opinion?
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
The light is going to help if you live somewhere dimly lit, but not to the extent that a floodlight would. It uses a combination of the spotlight and night vision to greatly enhance what you can see at night, and in colour. Without the light, you're limited to colour vision with the ambient light (which obviously might not be good) or night vision. So, from what you've said, I'd say go for the model that's going to give you the spotlight.

It varies, based on the location of the cameras. At the back of the house (very little human motion each day) it's about once every 6 months. At the front of the house (lots of human motion each day), it's once every 4 to 6 weeks.

@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Whilst I'd love to get paid for it, it wouldn't be unbiased anymore, so reviews will always be non-sponsored on the channel! Do check out the other Eufy cam videos I've got on the channel though (another 3 I think), as you might also find them useful. As for your question, yes, you just hit the play button in the app on any camera, and you've got an immediate live feed for as long as you want it. It's obviously more battery intensive if you do it often, but it's good if you hear a noise outside for example, and want to quickly have a look at what's going on, we use it quite often.

Can the cameral be mounted under the roof eaves and still have good video coverage?
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
Sure - the camera is going to be pointing down, so as long as you're not obstructing anything in front of the camera, mounting it under an eave will actually provide it with additional cover from the elements. That's essentially what I've done with the camera you can see in the thumbnail of this video. It's mounted right in the corner of our porch, which is an enclosed space. But it's pointing down our driveway, so has plenty of room to operate.

The issue with AI detection at night is the amount of light available. If you have a strong floodlight in the camera view you will get AI detection. But with little to no light, IR is activated and there isn't enough light to "see" the shapes that AI needs to work. I have the Cam 2 and prefer it to the 2c's because of better battery life....about 7 months for my situation. Good review, thanks.
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
That hasn't been our experience unfortunately. We've got a 2000 lumen floodlight right next to our back garden camera, which is activated by motion also, and a local neighbourhood cat still sets the cameras off every night (and the light), he's just much better illuminated now! Same out the front, we've got a streetlight at the front of the house, our driveway is pretty well lit up 24/7, but at night all movement gets reported. I think better light would help, but I do also think it's down to a Eufy software/firmware issue.

The app supports a number of languages, including French, but it does this based on the region you choose when setting up. So you would have to choose a relevant region for the language you would like to use. Note that this is very awkward to do once you've set the system up, you essentially have to remove all cameras, and start again.

@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know with certainty as I've not tried it... the cameras take a micro USB charge, so theoretically you could plug a long micro USB cable in and leave it connected. But the weatherproof seal at the bottom has to be lifted up for that, which means you're then leaving the socket and cable open to the elements. Probably not ideal. Also, while the 2C Pros are excellent, there are tradeoffs due to them being battery operated. If you can hardwire, you could avoid those tradeoffs. Hardwiring opens up a whole host of other cameras to you, so you might want to explore other options before trying to hardwire these.

You can hardwire the Homebase to your router. As for the cameras struggling to connect, it does depend on the distance from the Homebase, plus other factors like thickness and number of walls etc.

Hello, thanks for this great review. I am collecting information to purchase a security system and your quality analyses convinced me to choose for the Eufycam 2c pro (with solar support outdoors). I do like the storage in the Home Base to avoid a subscription. However, there is still one major DRAWBACK to my opinion... The home base generates an alarm, enabling the criminal to discover quickly the location where the home base (and hence the video storage) is located. This is no good .....May I ask a question ? Do you know if the alarm of the home base can be deactivated (without deactivating the alarm on the camera's; in that case it would be possible to trigger myself a seperate independant IP outdoors siren after having received a warning from the Eufy system on the app....and keep the location of the home base secret. That would do it for me. Thanks again.
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
Hi - Yes, when setting a 'security' mode (ie; Away Mode, Seep Mode etc) you can choose on a 'per camera' basis, if motion is detected at this camera, should the camera sound an alarm, the HomeBase sound an alarm, both or neither. So you could very easily set this system up to only have the cameras trigger an alarm, and never the HomeBase. Hope this helps your decision making.

It takes clear, crisp videos day and night and I feel much safer with the two cameras recording. These are sleek looking cameras and do the job. I especially like that I don't have to pay a third party a "subscription" for recording. The cons: if a delivery person is quick - like Amazon folks - they are too fast for eufy to record but it will pick up if a person is walking normally. My one camera gets less use except for the occasional deer at night and it will be quite a while before that camera needs a recharge. The sound is awful - it has a garbling that is awful and you cannot understand anything - I've seen many complaints in reviews about this issue. It can be annoying when I'm working in the yard and the camera is constantly sending messages to my phone about me working in the yard, it is good that it detects me in case anything happens but drives me nuts hearing the constant pinging that someone is spotted. All in all I feel safer in my home. Getting the system was a direct result of someone knocking on my door and peering through my window at night.

Glad you're getting good use out of them. Re the sound - this might be a 2C thing, as the sound on the 2C Pros is very good, in my experience at least. Re you working in your yard, have you tried snoozing the cameras? The little bell with the 'zz' icon next to each camera in the app. You can snooze for 30 mins, up to several hours. The cameras still record, but won't alert you for that time. So if you know you'll be done within an hour, snooze for an hour, and then the cameras will be back to alert you once your work is done.

These cameras do not record 24/7. They're battery operated. Recording 24/7 would cause them to run out of battery within a matter of hours of them being charged. For what you want, you will need to consider wired cameras.

Sounds like your system is under a different time zone to the one you're actually in. If you head into the HomeBase settings in your app, then choose General, then Time Settings, you can see what your current timezone is. The time showing on your phone has nothing to do with it, it's all to do with the time that your HomeBase is currently operating under.

There's a setting within the app, once you've got the Homebase setup via Ethernet. From the home/devices page, you scroll down and select the HomeBase (it's likely above or underneath all of your camera feeds). You then choose General, then Connection (which should say Ethernet or Wired). Then follow the instructions to connect it to your home Wifi. Once that's done, you can unplug it and put it pretty much anywhere you like in your home.

May seem a bit of a daft question but.....at what percentage should you recharge your doorbell/cameras. Would you let them go down to 0%?
@ProperHonestTech

I wouldn't allow them to go all the way to zero, personally. It can cause a bit of havoc with some lithium ion devices. I personally use 10% as the point at which I know I need to pull my finger out and go and charge the camera. If I'm about go away on holiday or something like that, I'll charge all of them regardless, so that I know I'm leaving with them all on a full charge.

You can download any footage from the app (which would be stored on the HomeBase) to your phone. Generally good, but the 180 days is 'in ideal circumstances' only, for sure. Back door cam gets triggered 3, 4 times per week. That's still going strong on it's first charge, and should do 6 months, still has 47% charge remaining. Driveway cam has dropped below 10% twice, and therefore needed a full recharge twice (both installed at the same time, October of last year). That cam is getting triggered maybe 10 to 15 times each day on average.

According to their website, UK cameras come with a 12 month warranty. You might want to check on the Eufy Security website if you are looking at a different geographical zone. Re TV, the only way I know of to do this is to connect via HomeKit, and then you can view the footage via Apple TV. It does support Alexa and Google Assistant, though I don't use either of those, so not sure if a compatible TV would then support this? Out of the box, there's no way to view on TV without integrating with another service.

As alert eufy is a soft system a burglar is not scared of! Burglar can switch the alarm off simply by unplug the homebase power plug. The homebase give a little beep so the burglar know were to find it to switch power off. If the Eufy system manage to give an alert sound this sound is inhouse and this sound (beep) is very low. So no one will hear the alarm sound outside the house! 😳 If you also got the Eufy cameras these give also a very low (soft) beep sound and also only for the time this camer see a person (movement). The mostly give an alert sound only for 5 seconds! More Eufy cameras can not sound the alert together by any alert trigger in the Eufy system and the homebase can not set also the alert sound of the cameras when an alert is triggert. Linking all cameras and homebase(s) so that they sound an alarm together is easy to program and is a missed opportunity from makers the Eufy system. These videos here are paid commercials to promote the Eufy products. You do not need the Eufy alert keyboard because you can also set all these functions (Away/Home/...) through or in your Eufy app on your phone or tablet 😲 If the power is cut by a burglar the Eufy homebase will not work any more. So no alert is given by your Eufy alarm system and because 230V power is off your wifi will not send you any Eufy alert notifications! Alll in all not a good system for scaring away burglars. An external loud alarm / siren device is missing from the Eufy program and present alert possibilities are not flexible or loud enough to scare burglars.

An Amazon review said video in the homebase will be erased if the camera is stolen & reset. Is it true?
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. I can't say with absolute certainty, so you might want to check with Eufy, but I don't think it's possible. Resetting the camera would mean that the camera would have to be reset close enough to the HomeBase for it to register. So the person stealing it would have to stand right by your property whilst resetting it. Otherwise, the HomeBase would not know that the camera had been reset (only that the camera was 'offline'). When cameras go offline, footage is still available on the HomeBase.

I’m using a ring doorbell 3 for 2 years it’s been great. The thing is I’ve been wanting to put another camera on the driveway, but to ring has 2 packages. 30 bucks a year for doorbell and 100 bucks a year unlimited. I don’t really wanna pay $100 bucks a year plus the price of their camera also my door bell only gets about 2 weeks batterey use so I swap batteries. I would wire it but my home is older and to use the door bell you have to change the voltage regulator or whatever it’s called and I don’t wanna crawl around the attic looking for it. So I’m kinda leaning toward these.

One pretty severe security flaw on these is that you can just press the sync button on the camera itself and it will delete all of the footage with no prompt or confirmation, so potentially anyone, even a thief could do just that. And the sync button is very visible and prominent, so I can imagine a situation where a thief grabs the camera thinking it might have an sd card and just by sheer luck he presses that big button and deletes all the evidence. Eufy has been notified about this and they refuse to fix it.
@ProperHonestTech

Yeah, I've had a few people comment similar these past couple of days. It's not good, and I'm not defending Eufy here at all, I believe they should prioritise fixing this issue. But, a thief doing this would be a VERY targeted attack. I'm not saying it wouldn't happen, I'm just saying statistically, it's unlikely. Most burglars want in and out with the least hassle. Not having to take down a camera (or cameras in our case), then mess about with a sync button, hoping that this has done the trick (they can't access your app to confirm, so there's a degree of them having to trust the process). I would like Eufy to fix this, definitely - but it wouldn't make me take our's down, I still feel pretty safe with them.

That's why you should, and Eufy recommends, mounting the cameras high enough off the ground they can't be easily reached. A burglar isn't going to research your camera system, grab a ladder, and climb up front of your house to press the sync buttons. Cameras need to be out of reach. It's common sense.

Another, even more serious problem; what's the point of having camera's from which the criminal can erase footage by simply pushing the reset button on the camera for 10 seconds and then take the camera; all footage would be disappeared. Can we call that a security system? Only exterior camera's at high location would be usefull. Resetting should only be allowed after approval by the owner on the app.

@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
Any bank, building society or local store usually has both. The point I was making in this video was that, with £500 or so to spend, you could have an alarm which will activate only at the point where someone breaches your home (and perhaps alerts the police, although usually only included as part of a monthly subscription), or you can have these, and get footage of everyone who comes and goes from your home. Proactive vs Reactive. Ideally, you'd have both, but at a significant up-front, and possibly ongoing monthly cost.

Nice system but Eufy doesn't have a powerful outdoor siren or a flash light. Burglars are mainly startled by a powerful siren, which the Eufy system cannot offer! Eufy does have a beeper (alarm) on the homebase and the camera, but with that you tell the burglar exactly where the camera and the Eufy homebase are. If he also takes it with him, then you have nothing because the video images are stored on the homebase! And the beeping sound from the camera or the Eufy homebase is far from powerful. A pitty for Eufy security system and a missed opportunity.

The cameras record in bursts of up to 2 minutes at a time. If motion is still detected, they will then begin a new burst recording, and will continue to do this so long as there's motion. They can't just continuously record because they're battery operated, so they only record when they detect motion, otherwise they would run out of battery in a single day.

The best review I've seen for this system! Thank you! I have this exact system in two different locations. Very good basic security system for this price range with no monthly subscription service needed. The AI is not perfect though. I have a camera aimed at my driveway. At night I get A LOT of false motion settings when cars drive down the street. I'm guessing the AI has problems with the headlights reflecting within its field of view. Lowering the sensitivity has only helped slightly.
