I think you should really review the first wireless headphones from Shure, the Aonic 50. They’re supposedly hi-fi wireless headphones competing with the Bose 700 and the Wh1000xm3, but with a neutral balanced sound so it’d be really interesting to see a review from you especially considering that you’re an audiophile.

Thanks for the review, I was able to get a very good overview of how this DAP works. I'm still rocking a Sansa Clip+ running Rockbox but am thinking about an upgrade, maybe to the AP80 Pro-X. With the volume issue I use Replaygain and with my listening habits it means I rarely need to adjust the volume, a few clicks here or there is all I need. I know the Hidizs players support Replaygain which is why I'm considering one of their DAPs, but I'm kinda surprised sticking my head back into the hifi world again that no reviewers seem to so much as mention it. It's such an invaluable tool I won't do without.

You sure? What's the setting? I enabled gapless playback, which removed the fade-in when going from one song to the next -- but only helps if you let the previous song finish.

Enjoying your reviews; they're practical, real-world. I can get tech specs elsewhere, easily. The little quarks/cons of a device can add up to a bigger annoyance. I think your 3/5 review is fair. Wish it were more responsive (album art on scroll), and the knob could be user customized with update (greater volume gain per turn, if you like). Great size though.

I agree, same here. Moving along to reviews of other DAPs. Also I found it funny that the album cover thata was used as a demonstration looked like the screen was broken with those horizontal lines. When the reviewer mentioned that he recently dropped it, I actually had to look up the album cover to see that indeed those horizontal lines are on the album and not from a damaged screen. Ya can never been too thorough!

Hi thanks for this review ! I want to buy 2 DAP players : a portable one for my daughter and one for myself (essentially to stream from Bluetooth or plug it into my tuner) For my daughter I really hesitate between the Fiio M5 (easy interface but small screen, plays pictures too) the Iby R2 and the Hidzs AP80. The latest two players seem to have a bigger screen which is more comfortable to read song titles but I truly hesitate with the Fiio M5 due to its user friendly interface. What do you guys think ? The player has to have excellent Bluetooth because she needs to stream it trough her boombox and headsets. Thank you 😊

Fine review! Good music taste too, well apart from Dire Straits ;). Couple of things: You’re the second reviewer to mention awkwardness with one finger operation of the volume button. I’ve had mine a month now and maybe I’ve just got fluid but I find it really easy. Just using the side of the top of my finger, even in my pocket when cycling. The Fade thing I haven’t noticed and I believe you can toggle that in the settings? I listen to albums all the way through so I may have missed this quirk. The SIM card has never left my player, I use the charging cord to attach to my mac to drag music onto it. I also have the rubbery case (which came with it) to protect the port with my nice 512gb card inside, safe and sound. PS - there is a Copper version of this in the wild, I REALLY want it but yeah....not made of money etc. I’d conclude, as a N00b to the audiophile scene, I think this player is an excellent starting point and represents good value for money. I love mine.

May just a hint...i disabled "gapeless playback" and "crossfade" in "play settings" (the menu when u scroll to the very right above the exit) and dont have any issues you mentioned. The confusing thing is that in system settings only a few settings regarding sound are shown but if you open "play settings" there are so many things to adjust like filters and playback gain and also for people who dont own so many different iem's there is the soundfield (soundstage) setting you can regulate. (I think son has also something similiar) Also if you want to use the buttons when screen is in sleep mode u can activate it in system settings. I dont found the issue you mentioned with pause and play when screen is off. A big bonus of this player is its weight if you compare it with Shanling Q1. Hidizs is usually offering a leathercase with a Belt Clip and an armband which makes it comfortable to use it for any workout or sport. Also worth to mention is that u dont need any special software to load music on the player. When the SD card ( some people say 1TB is working but i heard also only 512GB is feasible) is inside you can connect the player to your computer via usbc-USB cable and just create folders or drg and drop. Also something what i appreciate is the fact that you can create and name playlists on the player itself. For the sound this little player is really outstanding in my opinion for a player beneath 200 Dollars because it has a very good micro detail translation and natural sound. And of course the insane opportunities to tune the sound with filters, EQ, MSB and soundstage makes it really great for starters who want to step into the mysteries of detailed sound. Of course its annoying to adjust settings like EQ and MSB on this little screen with bigger fingers but if someone is patient and wants a player which is definitly smaller like a smartphone and offers great sound and resolution also with balanced jack its really a great device. At least me it made me hungry to invest now more money into a bigger DAP also...:-)
@SuperReview
@SuperReview 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting, if I disable "Gapless," I get the fade all the time -- with "Gapless" enabled, it won't fade the beginning of a song IF I get to the beginning of that song by finishing the previous song. I've already got "Crossfade" disabled :\

@SuperReview
@SuperReview 3 жыл бұрын
The AP80 has some advantages -- it gets louder and has no detectable noise floor (hiss) on sensitive IEMs. I find it's a bit brighter than the Sony, not necessary good or bad, just different. IMO neither of these is objectively "better" than the other in sound, both sound good. But you can probably hear the difference on $40 SSRs.

I have the original AP-80 and agree with most of your observations. My biggest beef is that I too, prefer to browse by artist, and defaulting to song view is bigly annoying. I also have the Hiby R3 and if I need to go out, I will almost always grab the AP-80. BTW, this version of Hiby OS is running on Linux.

@SuperReview 3 жыл бұрын
How's the R3 compare to the AP80? Same UI?
@misnerll
@misnerll 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperReview The UI's are exactly the same. The bigger screen does allow you to select the alphabetic letters on the side if you don't have super fat fingers. The R3 also has OTA S/W update which is nice, and has been updated more often that the AP-80. Even though the R3 has a balanced output, I think the AP-80 has better power single-ended, which is why I'm not going to the Pro version that you have.

Sorry to double comment but I have one major request for this player : it really needs a search function. Yes it will be tricky on the small screen but if you can tap in the first 4 letters and get to what you need that would be useful. So many bands start with “the” and scrolling through that lot to find, say, The Smiths is a little annoying when you are walking about . O/w splendid device!

I like that they cut the sharp corners on this thing. I dropped my AP80 once, fell on one of the corners and chipped the back glass. I kind of hated the UI of my AP80 it was quite slow (still prefer it over any android DAP lmao, it looks faster and more responsive on this AP80 pro) and the touch accuracy wasn't so good on the bottom part (along the player controls part on screen) had to touch higher a bit. Dude the Mseb is an AI parametric eq. Those are not eq sliders. They set parametric eq functions decided by the AI. You just give your preference. Most people cant operate a parametric properly, so that is a very very good thing. It includes aural exciters to change harmonics and also changes filters as needed, like low-pass, hi-pass, band-pass, notch, etc

I just ordered one of these yesterday from the company website. Hopefully it works out well. I am replacing a Dodocool HiFi player, which still works and sounds good, but the software & UI and build quality is not ideal. It was a $50 dollar player and decided to up my budget for better software and device build. I don't mind if it is not as smooth like smartphone software, as long as it plays and organizes the files reliably. Using the Dodocool player has shown me I have a lot of patience with UI quirks, since it has many. I also have several Sansa Clip+, but they feel dinky despite the good sound with an amp. I am not an audiophile, so I am sure I will be pleased with the sound quality on the AP80 Pro, hopefully I don't have the issue mentioned with it "fading in" songs all the time, but I usually listen to an album/folder at a time rather than random songs.

Short review: I have enjoyed using the AP80 Pro for almost a year. I would recommend for people that want a small player with good build quality and sound. I am most impressed with it's Bluetooth functionality (I didn't even buy it because of Bluetooth). I like that it can also be used as a USB DAC, as well as being a BT receiver, it's 3 devices in one. Headphones sound great, I even purchased several Balanced earbuds (with 2.5mm connectors) to try out the port and been very pleased, recommended for Classical especially, as there is more power. The standby time is great, and very rarely 'crashes' or reboots unexpectedly, majority of the time it just works . I have kept up with the Firmware updates from Hidizs, which I think helps. The Hiby player software is kind of basic, I wish it had a few more browsing options for files, but I just find files in organized folders, which works well. The small screen does not help with browsing, but it is fast at scrolling through things and the touch screen works like a (tiny) smartphone, as it should. It has good options to alter the sound, if needed, though I rarely use that option. And it has a Radio, which I think is above average, it works better than my last player at least. Overall it's focused on just listening to music, which is the point after all. I will keep using the player and very pleased. The leather case is recommended.

I've used both hiby r3pro, hiby saber pro, and ap80pro. The saber pro and ap80 pro sound a bit more neutral and maybe mid foward. I think the ap80 pro after burn-in is a touch better in detail and imaging, but they all sound pretty good. This is using the bakanced out on all three. You get better battery life from the hibys. And of course they can stream tidal. I prefer the AP80pro because of the compact size myself. But really they are all really 👌 If you've got really nice, sensitive iems and you want the one that sounds the best- the ap80 pro has the blackest background out of the 3.

@eatmoreporkporky4342
@eatmoreporkporky4342 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperReview It works in the same operating framework as the hiby music player- it's built in. Not as nice as the real app, but serviceable. I chucked mine because of bluetooth problems, constant losing connection even though the dap was in my pocket. Didn't have that problem with a105 or any Sony or ap80-pro. Other than the bt problems they're really nice. But I still prefer the sound from the a105 and ap80 to both hibys. The Sony is warmer and more musical and the hiby is a little more controlled although more neutral. Not huge differences though. I choose on usage and size- design mostly. If I want really good sound I can just hook up the lotoo S1. Oh battery life is really good on the r3pro-r3pro-s, but these little daps usually charge so fast I don't find lower battery life to be a deal breaker.

Hello! I'm looking to purchase either Hiby R3 pro and the AP80 Pro so thank you for your comment. How do you find the usability of the UI on the Hibys compared to the AP80 pro - the buttons in particular? Also in both the Hiby and AP80 - can the volume knob, and the buttons for that matter, be used with the screen off without turning the screen on? Also any comments on durability between the models? Thoughts on the screens between the two models? Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance ;)

unsolicited feedback; I subscribed because you had really cool reviews of products that really are underrated. Those were maximum 15 minutes long. These last videos are length-wise speaking, intimidating. I haven't watched any since. Probably these long-form videos are less consuming for editing allowing you to release them sooner but many viewers like me won't bother watching them

Thanks for the feedback. What I've been going for is reviews that are about the same length as previous reviews, and then I end with conversation with the live chat -- so if all you want is the review, you don't have to stick around.

MUST READ FOR HIDSZ AP80: Fragile unit and expensive to fix(Cost to repair screen is almost the same price as buying new) I dropped my unit from waist level onto floor(protective case and film installed from day1). Screen not cracked, no physical damage but the screen is busted. Not a great after sales user experience and also no repair centers - I live in Singapore. Also no hold button, I use or rather used to use the player while working out and it would often unlock and messing with either music or going into the settings. The only pros for me about the player is size and aesthetic & button placement.
