REVIEW HORNBY LNER GRESLEY FULL BRAKE

The omission of the Guard's ducket, as already commented on, is a poor reflection on Hornby's quality control. They will however supply the ducket moulding F.O.C., if you contact them with batch and serial numbers from the box. The running number indicates a York build date of 1938 to diagram 245 which is a "Pigeon Van" (source Gresleys Coaches by Michael Harris). These were fitted out with lift up shelves for the pigeon traffic.

the additional couplers are in fact standard Roco close couplers

No they are NOT fitted with gas cylinders, as by this stage like the vast majority of newer stock they were electrically light. The cylinders being vacuum cylinders and part of the vacuum brake system. These cylinders acted as "header tanks" that helped operate the brakes on each carriage. As for the derailed van seen in your feature, it has recently been restored for use in a static role as an exhibition van at Goathland on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

No problems Adi. It can be a bit disconcerting on occasion. As for the pie that runs along one side of the underframe, that's the brake pipe. Over the last twenty+ years I've learnt quite a bit about Gresley/Thompson Teak carriages, being a member of the LNER Coach Association based on the North York Moors.

@@AdiPullen yeah! I think I'll go for a telecaster instead because I've been spending more time on my railway than my guitar so I might as well get a new one so I have a stratocaster and a telecaster
