Great review. I have an older S-style Ibanez with only 22 frets and a slightly thicker body, with the H-S-S pickup configuration. It’s mostly stock, but I’ve blocked the trem and replaced the neck pickup with a Wilkinson dual-rail mini humbucker so I can play jazzy things on it through a clean amp. I really want one of the newer ones with the thinner body, two-octave neck and the H-S-H pickup set. Your 1070PBZ looks great and it sounds like a Swiss Army Knife type of guitar that you can use to play just about any style of music on, depending on the amp settings. Thanks a lot for sharing this in-depth review of the type of guitar I’ve had my eye on for a long time! Great channel. I’ve just come across it and I echo some of the earlier comments where viewers commend you for featuring the guitar instead of just showing off your chops. You’ve earned my subscription and a great big thumbs up, and helped me narrow down my choices at the same time. Thanks again and good luck and much success with your music and your channel!

Thank you for two things. First for the thorough review covering more than anyone else has and secondly for not spending way too much time showing off how talented of a guitarist you are by playing as fast as you can without showing tones other than what you'd need for lead work. I have just become subscriber number eight.

@@TraceTaylor3 So just thought I'd follow up with you. I was really seriously looking at this guitar and even more so after this video but I wound up with a PRS CE24 instead and the only reason for that was the neck radius. I am far from what anybody would consider to be young and these fingers that have been playing guitar for well over fifty years just ain't what they used to be and with that in mind I needed a neck radius of no more than 10. It really broke my heart to pass up this one. In fact I just sold my Ibanez AR420 which I really liked because of the neck issue.

@@TraceTaylor3 can i plz ask your expert opinion? Imreally torn between the s1070pbz, and the jiva 10...... which do you think is the better guitar. Both sound delicious. Im a beginner, but looking at buying one or the other of abve forementioned. Thankyou in advance. :-)
@TraceTaylor3
@TraceTaylor3 2 жыл бұрын
@@Drquimbaymatumbo You should watch my review on the Jiva 10. I have had 3 of them and they were simply not good. I know people have gotten the Monday guitar where they seem to be alright but I had serious issues with each one that I had and after I sent the last one back I got the 1070. The 1070 has stainless frets which are a priority for me. It also has the zero trem system which to me just simply seems more stable and much easier to adjust. Now when I was getting my Jiva's I was told they were made with Nyatoh wood and now they are using mahogany. The pickups on the JIva are pretty nice with the pandemonium's and they are ceramic so they are quite a bit hotter then what is in the 1070. Personally, I think the 1070 is an all around better guitar. It is less money and stainless frets. And the sad thing, I really wanted to love the Jiva 10......so much I tried 3 and ultimately sent all 3 back for various reasons. My 1070 has become one of my main guitars. Now on that note. Being a beginner you will not be as picky as I am. a guitar must behave a certain way as I play in a gigging band. More than likely you will love either guitar.....but for the money.....for me......the 1070 is simply a better guitar.

What a great in-depth video covering all the details on this very cool Ibanez. I've been mulling over purchasing one from one of my local Long & McQuade stores; however, the price in CAD is pretty expensive and I would probably have to sleep with on eye open for a while if she found out the price (haha). Can't find many, if any at all, reviews that cover so much of this guitar and in an unscripted manner. Obviously you are extremely talented and yet that isn't the focal point of your review. This alone speaks to someone who is confident, talented and humble. Thanks for doing this!

Thanks for the review man you’re really the only actual display of the guitar. Looking to grab one here soon. I played an S series Ibanez when I was 16 back in the day and wanted one but couldn’t afford it. Since then I’ve accumulated more classic guitars, Les Paul, Strat, Tele, Flying V. I love what all of them offer and my only shreddy guitar is my Carvin DC127C. I feel like I’m missing those guitars that I really liked as a kid, I always wanted Steve Vai’s signature guitar but I have never been a big fan of the RG look or super strat thing. I love the S1070 mostly because of it’s totally awesome neck. I’m not a big fan of satin maple necks of any kind (largely why I won’t buy the Nita Strauss sig) and would prefer the different woods and porous grain they offer. But anyway, thanks again and as someone else said it was nice to watch a guitar review without someone just playing for 5 straight minutes although what you did play was fun and interesting enough to get stuck in my head!

I dig this ax. Been thinking of getting one. I love the combo of the Tone Zone and Air Norton and have used it in countless guitars. My other favorite bridge pups are the Steve's Special and the classic Super Distortion. I tend to lean towards classic rock tone and feel so the Tone Zone and Super D work best out of the three.

Well if I can hit 50k subscribers by the end of the year I am giving this guitar away. Still have a ton of time. I was going to change out the pups until I decided to run this contest. Hopefully I hit the number and someone wins this guitar. I am rebuilding a bowtie Randy Rhoads V that i am doing a video series on and I spent a bit of time on the phone with Dimarzio and they suggested a super dist in the rear and a super 2 in the neck. Hopefully they come it today so I can start wiring them in. Dying to hear how they sound.

Just found you and had to sub. This guitar is perfect ALMOST for me. I actually want one, if the term is good. I also might get it painted on the front if the body a blue metal flake or something because that wood look doesn't do much for me, but I love the stainless frets, the 11 piece neck, etc. I have an SV which is an S series body with a thin, but not Ibanez thin v shaped neck. It's the perfect neck, and it has a gotoh 2 point trem and locking tuners. I .also live the low pro on my other Ibanez S series from Japan. Locking tuners are easy. Great review. So glad to hear you say the trem is stable and you've used if on shows. Thanks so much for sharing man...

I would stay away from the Jiva. I have had 3 and all 3 were terrible guitars. I have a friend that works at a big online music store and he said that is their most returned guitar. I don't know how you feel about the RG but I would watch my video on the 1120PBZ before I did anything. I love the S series body but that 1120PBZ is simply a beast with better pickups then what is in the Jiva. Great review and a lovely guitar from the sound of it. I don’t have much expendable cash so could ideally need one guitar to do it all so this might be the guitar for me. I have had various strat and les Paul copies over the years I have owned a 7 string RG for a long time but it has its limits. Great for heavy and you can play anything on it….but I’m certainly not going to get a strat sound from it for example! I think your ears are spot on, that middle single coil is lush and gives a lovely sound. I think the bridge sounds really nice too tbh but that Air Norton on the neck sounds wooden, there is just something missing in the detail and delivery. But for a Jack of all trades this one sounds a winner. Thanks for the review!

@@ianwalters11 I agree. the neck pup could be better. I was never a big Air Norton fan. But, you can get about any tone you want out of this guitar. Another one is the RG1130. I have one and I have a review of it. It has two double pups but with a 5 way switch and a splitter. It is actually one of my main guitars. You can't get that "strat" tone but you can get close and with the 10 switching options, it is hard to not get the tones you need. Sadly guitars keep getting more and more expensive and it makes it really hard to get the guitars you really want. But if you can get a 1070 you will love it. It does a little bit of everything. @@TraceTaylor3thanks for the reply. I’ve just looked online and the average price for the 1070 is around £1500 GBP, so approx £1900 US dollars. I cannot find an RG 1130? I’ve got a bonus at the end of the month which won’t pay for a 1070 but would put me in the right direction. I can’t do anything else rash though at the moment as I have an annoying car problem, mysterious loss of coolant. 2 trips to the mechanic reveal no errors but my gut feeling is I’ve spotted an expensive problem that’s not bad enough to show up in tests yet☹️. I’ve been around cars long enough to know a thing or two. Anyway….. assuming no engine failures I’ll aim to start putting money aside for a new guitar, most probably the 1070, your review has sold me on it. Until then I need to keep upbeat, my RG for a budget model does play nicely and doesn’t owe me a penny. It holds tune well, it’s fixed bridge so easy to change strings and I really like the Wizard II neck, nice and slim. It will keep me playing for the time being😊. Thanks again for a fantastic review 👍

Honestly these are not my favorite pickups in this guitar. That is weird however. Have you tried to raise the bridge pickup? Closer to the strings give you more of everything sound wise. Yours could just be to low in the pocket. That is how you balanced the pickups by raising and lowering them. Let me know if that is the case.

Interesting that you went with this guitar when you prefer the Pandemonium pickups that are on the Nita Strauss JIVA 10 guitar. Why not just buy the Strauss JIVA? It also has those great “Beaten Path” fret markers which are sooo easy to see all along the center of the fretboard. As you can probably surmise from my comments, I have the JIVA 10, and I absolutely LOVE it! Fantastically versatile guitar. I LOVE the clean tones for jazz and classic rock/blues. You might want to check out that JIVA 10...OR once Nita’s latest axe, the JIVA X is available, check it out. I can’t wait to get my hands on that. this guitar sustains pretty good. Honestly the RG version I have of this the 1120PBZ sustains better but I did spend a bit more time on the setup of that guitar. However, on this guitar I did find out the the 14th fret is literally a hair too low and causes it to lose a little sustain at 15 on the high E and B. That is something I intend on fixing at one point but that may require lifting the fret and then reseating it. On the RG version the frets are absolutely perfect. I did a review on the guitar and I said that I seriously got a monday guitar because the neck is flawless on that one.

I then bought my second Ibanez which is the one in this video. A question I have is.... Is anyone else noticing the ringing coming from the Zero System that is present even after expert muting?
@TraceTaylor3
@TraceTaylor3 2 жыл бұрын
Ok. It really depends on the amount of gain you are using. The reason I love the zero system is the lack of ringing on the springs. The Nita Strauss rings like crazy. What it is....the springs are vibrating and being picked up....well....in the pick ups. What I do is get on old T shirt and cut a piece out of it and put it in the strings to mute the vibration. The guitar is such a thin body it will pick up a ringing out of the springs. Fenders are notorious for this with high gain amps. You can also buy coated springs which will eliminate this problem, but I don't have a ringing out of my springs on my premiums at all. That is curious.....

Hello Trace. I have the exact same guitar and love it. However, my trem is not staying in tune. When I dive bomb the wound strings go sharp when releasing. I thought it may be the nut moving so I tightened the nut a little and no change. @TraceTaylor3
@TraceTaylor3 3 жыл бұрын
When that happens it is usually in the tension of the trem itself. You will need to adjust the wheel on the back, tune the guitar and dive bomb it. If it is going sharp you have too much tension on the springs and it is pulling the trem backwards too far causing it to go sharp. Make the adjustment with the wheel and if it goes sharp again, adjust the wheel again little by little until you hit that magic spot. That is what's nice about this trem system. You don't have to open the back to make the adjustments. That should do it for you. Let me know if that works. Thanks

My tech had it perfect in no time, including polishing the frets (and rounding the ends). I've got quite a few Strats, so I was pretty shocked at the output and brightness of the True Velvets, but they make perfect sense to have with the Tone Zone and I did get it for the heavier gain stuff and what little playing I did with it (seriously poor setup from the factory) highlighted the cut with the stock Dimarzios. Probably go with a DiMarzio super 3 in the birdge. They are good pickups that come in the guitar and I play this guitar quite a bit at shows. I just want something a touch more scooped in the mids and maybe a touch heavier. The super 3 is a great pickup. Maybe a set of lace sensors. the double red is a beast of a pickup. They are getting changed just have not done it yet. Regardless, they are amazing guitars and the body's......forget about it. Oh yea!) and see what pedals and amps like it. I have to remember why I got it, and not turn it into a classic/hard rock machine. It's just so darned comfy. I don't know why they don't sell more than they do. It would be awesome if you did a follow-up vid with new pu's and A/B the stock pup's vs new ones! I'll subscribe and be on the lookout for it! 🎸🎸🎸

@@PaulSter I really do like the Lace sensors and when I have a Fender, the first thing I do is put in lace sensors. The single blue up front with the silver single in the middle is one of the best tones I have ever heard. When I change out the pickups on my 1070, which hopefully will happen as soon as I get my house sold and all that done, I am definitely going to do a side by side comparison.

@@Hoprdoxx You mean the balance of the guitar. Ok. Honestly have never heard it called neck dive. I always heard neck heavy. Regardless, the body is mahogany which as you know is a heavy wood. @TraceTaylor3
@TraceTaylor3 6 ай бұрын
@@wishinfishin8019I love the prestige. I have RG5030 and a J Custom which is literally one of the finest guitars I have ever played. But in the S series.....I would go with the 1070. It has stainless frets and the zero system which is a game changer on the trems. And they should still come with locking tuners which is nice to have. they have the same pickups for the most part. And....the 1070 is one of their best selling guitars. For the money it is unbeatable. I also have an Indo RG, the 1120, which is stellar. The Jiva.....Unless you get lucky and get a great one....I would steer clear. My sales person at Sweetwater told me that he returned almost every single one he sold. They are just shoddy guitars. The Jiva X is a completely different story. They are amazing but hard to find and pricy.

That said I like the guitar and will learn to avoid the volume knob, It's my only complaint about the guitar.
@TraceTaylor3
@TraceTaylor3 3 жыл бұрын
@@dashriprock2916 actually I have done the same. My main guitars are EVH wolfgangs and the volume knob is out of the way. Ibanez is not as bad as fender. I cannot play a fender because the volume is right next to the pickup and I hit them constantly. The Ibanez....I did have to adjust a little bit. I now hold my pinky I little higher because that is what hits but the adjustment I made on my playing has helped. But I agree. The volume needs to be lower. I know people who do not use the tone knob at all. They move the volume to the tone and put a kill switch in the volume slot. It is actually pretty cool and works well. You might want to try that setup.
