a nifty trick for these kind of books is run a hot hair dryer along the spine to soften the glue. the books are much easier to manipulate, and are able to open flat :)

I originally wasn't planning to buy this book just because the story aspect didn't appeal to me all that much, but this might actually be my favorite artwork of Johanna's that I've seen. And quite different subjects from her last books too, with the interiors and knick knacks - those seem like they would be so fun to color. Gorgeous! I hope you share some finished pages with us!

I agree with you, I am not that fond of the story elements either. So I thought maybe after reading it (to get the whole idea and maybe the story is nice?) the text could be blended out (i.e. with backgroundcolor in acrylics) and the space of the lettering could be space for own text? (diary, quotes etc.?)

Hi Peta, love your colouring and have benefitted a lot from it. Re the box, maybe you wanted to keep it for something but if not the rip strip on the back is the fastest way to get into the parcel. I only realised that after a similar tussle.

I think you'll enjoy the ergosoft pencils. They were my very first set of pencils a couple of years ago when I got into this coloring hobby, and they did a fair job. I found that they blended better than I thought and definitely had some nice pigmentation. I was disappointed there were only 24 because I would have bought an entire rainbow set if I could have. I can't wait to see what you do with the book; you're so creative!

Rikki Rikki I just saw QBD had Daria Song books for $5! They also had Johanna Basford's early books for $5 too but I'm unsure if they still have them as I already had them all. May I suggest if you have colouring books you may like but don't have that you check their website. You might be in for a pleasant surprise. For me damn I had all the books already from Book Depository and while cheap they were more than double what QBD had them for. 😏

I have 24 set of ergosoft pencils, but they are not in tin box. I wonder if they are the same.

Yes, they're the same. There are now 3 versions of ergosoft packaging-the tin, the blue stand up "easel" plastic box, and a clear box. The blue stand up box seems to be the most available. Hope that helps.

I'm so happy and thankful that she listens to feedback and actually improves aspects of the prints! I ordered Enchanted Forest back in 2015 and I found it extremely frustrating that some pages had the print go all the way into the center of the binding, especially the double spread drawings. Now if she would make the binding a lay-flat one :p And please review the Jane Davenports!

You are so right, I have the same problem with this book. I think I will go to her account and comment. It is a total frustration which I had not realised at first as I did the dragonfly and the name page first.

Johanna's said she will NEVER do a lay flat or spiral binding. First, she likes the bound coloring book as she thinks it tells the "story" better and better portrays the story book feel she's trying for. Second, it would greatly increase the cost of the book, as that binding is both more expensive to do and more expensive to ship. She's actually told people to quit asking for that, as it will never, ever happen. You can always take your book to a print shop and have a different binding done you know.

@tammynwes Shes' already done spiral binding for the calendar versions and although her books are bound, she's already made some changes where some books have only 1 page drawings called artist's editions. And I don't think a few more threads will punch that big of a hole in her budget. In fact if she wants to save the thread count, she could just have the publisher just use glue instead and afterwards they can rip the pages individually out or something like that.

Boo Songz ohhh, lol. Sorry about that! Unfortunately, there are so many people who don't watch the videos and then ask for something that was included in the videos. I know it isn't a Peta review, but Johanna sent everyone who got an advanced copy the pencils, so there are several reviews-coloring with Claire is one. Maybe she'll review them soon! I have those pencils and they really are nice, good color saturation, they're good for blending as the colors compliment one another, and they're so lovely to hold. There has been a set of 24 for a while, and they've recently come out with a 36 set too.
