I enjoyed this one quite a bit, it’s rich and has depth. The only confusion arose over the Ottoman surrender rules. Vertical application of the States-of-Siege engine is a welcome innovation. Cruiser involvement is huge for your economy. The engaging design really captures the flavor of WW1. Highly recommended to the solitaire player!

Looks very good. Will have to add it to my later this year list. Been trying to be a good boy having bought nothing since the end of November though I did get in a pre-order and another one should be here soon. White Dog 👍👍👍👍👍

If any one Ottoman theater box goes above four deployed Entente armies, the Ottomans collapse. You have to keep them all at 3 or less or else the next deployment in any box containing 4 will finish off the Turks.

Great review and very fair. I am quite proud of this game and glad to see it getting some love. The level of abstraction is a bit of a departure but I think the level of tension and all the chrome make for an interesting puzzle.

Grant, great review video! I really appreciate your simple, straightforward, friendly presentation style. No gimmicks, sound effects, or catch phrases. Just friendly discussion like you are talking to a buddy. 😊

Looks great! I probably won't be able to get this to the table in 2023 ... but maybe next year!

if you loved Kaiserkrieg you will love Ben Madison's next game GLOBAL WAR WW2 solitaire, coming out from White dog games, uses Kaiserkrieg as the base system but very much a similiar but different game, the Pacific naval war segment in Global war is simply brilliance. Very tense game too, I found Global war to be harder to win than Kaiserkrieg.

Got this one last summer. Only played it once so far but liked it a lot. It is on the “heavier side” of White Dog games but all the moving pieces work well. Look forward to playing it again.

Hi Grant, great video! I wanted to point out that when a cruiser lands in the same in the same space as a blockade runner, it doesn't send the blockade runner to the neutral port. That only happens when TWO of them are in the same space (see your chart -- at the bottom when it tells you what brackets are for). A single cruiser will prevent you receiving income, though, but you will get the blockade runner back. Otherwise, it gets to expensive to maintain the blockade runners. I only knew this because Jeff Davis (Ben's Civil War game) has the same system. But excellent video. I'm watching it as I prepare my first game. I appreciate your hard work.

I could be wrong but don't think Zeppelins were ever used to attack ships during the First World War. Both sides used airships for scouting and spotting artillery fire but the need to maintain high altitude meant attacks against ships were very difficult.

The idea in the game is they are being used as spotters.

I took German in 7th grade mostly because I had a crush on my German teacher, but it has done me a world of good. 🙂
