Same, this feels like something i could actually wear in day-to-day life. Lightweight and no big fancy bits to get stuck everywhere, and since basically nobody wears armor nowadays the focus on cutting should work very well, and you don't need a cross-guard since no one else is using swords.

@JiYun I don't think you know very much about Japanese swords...you got a lot wrong. I love Chinese swords, they're a sort of beauty in simplicity and they feel amazing to use, especially LK Chen's stuff, which is also very durable. Japanese swords are great too though. They pretty much never break outright since they're differentially hardened, the most it'll do is bend or the cutting edge might chip in places. They're also excellent cutters that can even somewhat self-correct if you make a mistake in edge alignment. They're also not folded a thousand times. They're folded four or five times which results in around a thousand layers. This also wasn't done to be fancy, this was a necessity for Japanese swords due to the fact that they didn't have access to high quality sources of iron historically. Folding resolved this issue by essentially spreading any impurities across the entire blade over several layers, this ensured that there wasn't any single point of failure in the blade.
@sevenseas26734 жыл бұрын
@JiYun You're just triggered by a bunch of otaku who don't know anything about swords, most of which are probably quite young, Katana are perfectly fine swords that accomplished their purpose just fine, I don't reckon a Chu Jian would be any more efficient against a late medieval full plate armor than a katana. All weapons are designed to accomplish a task and aren't meant to be universal and work in any context at any time in any place of the world. Then worse than getting triggered by 15 yo or man-children edgy katana fanboys, is that you get triggered by anime, like have you seen pseudo ancient china martial arts movies with people flying around and using swords that are floppy as well, I love realistic portrayal of ancient combat as much as most people here, but those anime aren't even attempting to have a shred of realism. And Jian have more range than Katana? well maybe you can then take a Tachi or a Nodachi it's that simple. Not to mention Katana like most medieval swords were side arms in most cases, and they used other main weapons, just like in China there were lots of other swords more prominently used in battlefields than swords. Seeing your username I reckon you're Chinese, at least ethnically (unless you're a Chinese wanna be) , and I suspect it's mostly your typical run off the mill anti-japanese sentiment that is very present in china speaking, and not an actual informed and objective evaluation of japanese swords compared to other sword. 你就去研究一下日本刀吧,你不要跟以为日本刀是世家最佳的刀剑一样,别空想了,还是从实际出发吧

@@goury let me break this down very simply for you since you don't seem to get it: there are hundreds of medications that can lead to weight gain. People's mental health can play a role or even any number of physical medical conditions. You come in assuming that if someone has put on weight it's because they don't give a shit about their health when they may have to control over it because of other things going on in their lives. Let's say you came at someone with your insensitive bullshit who was struggling with depression and had bigger fish to fry with regards to dangerous health conditions and don't have nearly enough mental energy to worry about their weight at the moment. Then we'd be able to congratulate you on your half assed assumptions and inability to keep your shitty opinions to yourself adding to the mental health problems because you didn't give two shits what someone may or may not be going through. That bullshit is toxic and counter productive. Do you think people who are heavier don't know? Do you think they wouldn't know it was a problem? I gained a lot of weight when I was struggling with depression. I knew it was unhealthy, and even knew damn well how to fix it. But I was a bit busy using most of my mental energy just trying to avoid killing myself and keeping myself alive most days. Do you know what wouldn't have helped me on any level and would have made me feel worse for absolutely no benefit? Anyone thinking they knew my life better than me who decided to try and shame me into losing weight when I was already ashamed of my weight gain. I was just a little too busy and stressed out dealing with the fact that I felt miserable every day and dealing with the risk of suicide that would have killed me a hell of a lot sooner than being fat. You may mean well but you need to stop and consider that when you open your mouth and firmly shove your foot in that you may not be helping at all but actually making things worse. Your actions have consequences and if you don't want to be an asshole you'd best start considering what they could be before saying something stupid.

I believe that the Jian, especially the thin light fast blades were for use by high level officials for self defence against sudden attacks by high level rivals, and as a symbol of authority. They would probably be using the sword on people inside the palace, not wearing armour. (An enemy soldier in armour would be challenged at the gates by guards, so they would be unlikely to get close to a high official...unless the palace was over run). The more solid Jian with 8 planes was probably used by high ranking officers in combat. The hard and dirty work was done by Dao swords weilded by low level soldiers.

I see that the bugs have stopped biting... at least for now! :P It's nice to see reviews of swords from other cultures lately, especially China whose traditional weapons have been very underrepresented in pop culture and by fans of historical weapons. I myself am starting to really appreciate what they can do and how they work. Really cool!

Skall you really need to get in touch with Shadiversity. In your present aesthetic condition you would make a very good Barbarian for their movie

Hope they reproduce tang song dynasty swords later. Those have more features to work with… to present with. Lk Chen's workmanship is definitely awesome.

They just made a Tang Dao. I want it but sigh, wtih the coronavirus, the hit on the pocket pocket means I have to forgo any sword purchases and can't pick up another massive money hog of a hobby...I already dropped my Transformers collecting hobby. The two hobbies I have left are model making and video games...Sigh, maybe when my kids hits college. I'll take up sword buying then......

Just some random knowledge: The name White Arc or Baihong is the name of a very famous fictional sword, and it means white sun halo.

Always like Chinese weapons, especially the swords. One of the reasons is their beauty and decency

To cut a limb clean off you must do a wide swing, coming off of a body twist. The larger and builkier the target, the more adherence you should need. This is a blade very well suited to a wind technique, and the wind is the best at cutting.

1:00 Was the metallurgy used in this blade possible in the time and place the original it was based on was made? I'm sure the swordsmiths of the Han dynasty knew pattern-welding techniques, but the alloys sound pretty modern. Mostly just asking because for a reproduction that seems very loyal to an ancient design, that seems to be an oddly anachronistic choice. Beautiful sword, either way.
@mrkiky4 жыл бұрын
No it wouldn't have been. And reproductions are almost always made of modern steel. Using traditional materials would just raise costs and make the sword less resilient, which would be bad if you're trying to sell them.
