I'd love to see a video explaining the physical characteristics and attributes of the different specific kinds of weapons in moderate detail. You know, like what is a spadroon? What's a partisan? At what point does a spear become a halberd? When is it a sidesword and not a rapier?
@farkasmactavish3 жыл бұрын
A spear just has a point. A halberd has an axe blade and a back spike, as well. As for rapier/ sidesword, you're looking at length: a rapier should come up to the armpit, while a sidesword will be significantly shorter, and while some rapiers are three edged, sideswords almost always are. And spadroons are garbage.

6150 is a medium carbon steel that is on the lower end of tolerable steels for swords, known for its ease of machinability and heat treatment. However, it is not known for toughness or abrasion resistance. In fact, it is specifically chosen by production makers for its higher susceptibility to abrasion- in other words, it is very easy to grind with sanding belts and scotch-brite belts.

For your squito problem, there's these things we used to get called "punks", they might be called something else in other places, but they look like gigantic incense sticks. Some people use them for lighting fireworks, but they also worked nice for warding squito's. In "my" experience anyhow. They're also easy to carry, and smell nice. And you don't have to worry too much about starting an accidental fire as long as you're just a little bit mindful. If you're gonna do more recording at the water there, or even when you're out test cutting, you should see if you can get some to try out. You could also try those little portable repellent things, but I never had much luck with any of those. And I don't particularly like myself and my clothing and gear smelling like poisonous chemicals. So it's "punks" for me and mine. ^_^

It's certainly a more affordable Kriegsmesser than the Albion Knecht, but then again Albion is generally pricey but also super high quality. From what I can see, this Falke is extremely high quality as well, though. The grip might be a little awkward for some people, though the newer version is liable to be different. The scabbard looks very high quality as well, and the two knives are a very nice addition, too. As for mosquitoes, I think pretty much the only place you can escape those is Antarctica. Yeah... screw that.

To test the sharpness of your blades (works best with knives) you should try the hair test. The paper test is really not that accurate since it is influenced to much by blade geometry and other factors. The hair test is quite similar to the good old fingernail test just a little bit more accurate, you gently place the edge of your blade on your hair and very carefully press down (if done right you should not be accidentally shaving yourself, to be honest i don't even know if that could even happen) if the blade does not slide of and bites into the hair its sharp. I have learned this trick from an old Austrian blacksmith, i always combine it with the fingernail and shaving test, while sharpening so I can really get to a good sharpness I need.
