OMG, you are so CORRECT!!! I have the same washer. Everything you are saying is happening to me also. I'm so mad. I paid too much money for this to be happening. I know now to watch KZbin before making such a big investment. Thanks for your video

Not sure how I missed this video from years ago. Glad I found this. So informative. The world should see this to see how these kind of machines are actually wasting their money, the water, the detergent, their energy. What good are these so called energy and water saving machines if you end up with clothes that need rewashing because they are never getting any scrub. I've seen some folks machines that after a wash cycle, some parts of the load never even got wet.

Wish I'd had done my homework & seen your review before I bought mine. I've always owned Maytag. At 64yo I was excited to finally be able to buy my first matching washer/dryer set. Bought February and called repair in May (bought extended warranty at Lowes). Come June they couldn't get the parts for it. Not only did Lowes buy it back from me they gave me additional money to get my clothes done at a fluff and fold. This machine made my clothes dingy, smelly and dull. It also tore up clothes. I had all the problems you did as well. I even tried adding water to it manually. I was fortunate to have the extended warranty giving me the opportunity to purchase another machine. I watched a lot of reviews and did my homework. I settled on the LG 4.8 cubic top load w/direct drive agitator & turbo wash. Now my LG is a real work horse. One wash and my brights were bright again and no longer dingy. They smelled fantastic. I'll never buy Maytag again and even though the dryer still works I plan to replace it with the matching LG one. Thank you for an excellent review.

I have no idea why there is not any lawsuits on this. The Calypso and the Neptune TL got sued out of their designs. They washed much better and cleaned clothes. Sure they were unreliable at first but the number 1 purpose of a washer IS TO CLEAN YOUR CLOTHES.

Secondly you’re not alone about having this obsession with appliances I did my entire life and there’s many of us out there thank God for that. Thirdly this is about one of the worst washers you have ever tested that I’ve seen from your reviews.

First thing...I really enjoy your videos! Thank you so much for the wonderful effort! It’s much appreciated! I laughed so hard when you showed the alternative machine, mainly because I have a glass washboard that is 30 yrs old and has beat out most machines hands down. Not sure if many of these models come to Canada...but the info you provide is priceless, and I love the humour! Kudos! 😂 👍🏻

I watched other videos like this before buying this exact machine. My pros/cons. It always gets my clothes VERY clean. Never have I had soap left on them or lint. Some people warned about this and the answer was that people are using too much soap. I think I use too much soap as well and I still don't have problems with soap stains or dirty clothes. I've been using this machine for two years now. MY complaint is that is has some reliability issues due to a flawed design. When washing heavy blankets with dense material, the washer drains the water from the BOTTOM. The dense soaked blanket prohibits the water from leaving the machine. Then the high speed spin throws the machine all over the place with the drum banging against the side. It does not get most of the water out of the blankets. So, when running dense fabric blankets and comforters, we do not put in multiple big blankets at the same time. This has solved that problem. I would've preferred a front load washer but we originally bought a LG front load washer and it filled up with water and became pressurized until the door exploded open. We were gone at the time and we came home to a flooded house because the washer (1 day old) spilled it's water out and also the water line was still on in the house and it continued to let water in through the washer and into the house. We had over $65,000 in damage and had to move out while the house was gutting and rebuilt. We lost a TON of personal property. LG said they would pay for the damage but LG kept escalating the case to different insurance companies. LG changed insurance companies SIX TIMES. Then they sent the case to South Korea and sent me a letter basically saying they weren't going to pay for a PENNY and if I didn't like it, I could sue them in South Korea. An international lawyer is over $525/hr so I ended up turning everything into my homeowners's insurance and had to pay a $1000 deductible. LG didn't pay a penny. So, even with all the negative things I've read about Maytag, it was MUCH better than LG. I don't think ANY washer is as good as they used to be. I've read NIGHTMARES on LG, Samsung, Electrolux, and GE. I was told to buy a Speed Queen but they offer a tiny washer for an expensive price so would expect them to be MUCH better but I've even read complaints on them as well. I got the above washer for $599 instead of $999. I also got the gigantic dryer as well for only $599 too. Then Maytag had a $50 rebate on each unit so that brought them down to $549 each. Then Menards had 11% rebates that week. So, I got each of these units for $483. For that price they are definitely worth it but they aren't worth $999 each. The washer is loud when it does things, but loud to me means well built with bigger and more heavy duty parts on them. While they are not perfect, my washer gets the clothes VERY clean. My daughter up until recently was wetting the bed for years due to a kidney issue. The smell of comforters, blankets, and sheets that smell like urine is just horrible. My former washer (Fisher and Paykel) took two to three times to get that smell out of them. My Maytag gets rid of a urine soaked blanket or comforter or set of sheets on the first try with no problem at all. Looking at the design, especially with a washer that has no agitator, it looks like a stupid design. However IF you load the washer correctly, it does a great job of washing your clothes. This reviewer doesn't know how to load a washer without an agitator and it's obvious by watching this video. I'm even guilty of overloading my washer and my stuff still always gets cleaned just fine! But you have to load the clothes in a certain way which this reviewer did not do!

So all washers drain from the bottom. Always have. How to drain from the top? Also, one should never leave their home with an appliance on other than a refrigerator. Common sense. Lastly, my eyes don’t deceive me on this video. The wash action is a joke. Too bad no follow up on the repairs on this PoS. Just over a year old and had to replace the $350 control panel plus the $130 charge from service company. Junk. The end.

I usually take what Consumer Reports says with a grain of salt, I really think they get paid off by certain manufactures at times to give good reviews or bad reviews of the competition, that is why I cancelled my subscription to Consumer Reports years ago. What comes to mind when I think of Consumer Reports is the car I purchased brand new years ago, a 1994 Mercury Cougar, a car that was panned by Consumer Reports, that car gave me 23 years of reliable, trouble free service, I loved that car and the car was still running well when I traded in for my wifes new Jeep 2 years ago. As far as washing machines go, we would not trade our top load Speed Queen for anything else on the market today.

We bought a new Maytag, daughter bought a Samsung........both worthless washers......have to trick the machine into filling up, always use a second rinse....pre soak wash any thing that got dirty...........other wise it just wets your clothes....redistributes dirt.....or just leaves it there..... I think going down to the river and beating the clothes on rocks would do a better job.....

We owned a 2011 Whirlpool Cabrio that’s similar to this, and we were beyond disappointed with it. I ended up purchasing a ‘98 direct drive for around $150 in La Crosse shortly after, sanding off the rust and replacing the parts that were broken, and replacing the Cabrio with that. It’s a lot better than that disgrace of a washer.

I see an opportunity for aftermarket modifications... perhaps redesigning the agitator and programming the machine to use more water per load will have better results. Cars can be modded why not washing machines?
@mountainkimmie
@mountainkimmie 3 жыл бұрын
Hah! I've had this same thought. High performance mods that allow you to control the behavior of the washer to your own custom specs, just like the aftermarket chips and packages you can get to tweak/boost your muscle car (or diesel truck!) performance. Like a Bully Dog for washers. I really wish someone would start doing this as a cottage industry. For this particular machine, however, I think the only appropriate solution is to fire it into the sun or use it for target practice. There's no saving this turd. Melt it down and start over.

I must say you probably have the most informative videos on KZbin for appliances. I came across some of your videos on the Maytag MVWP575GW and was so impressed with your review that I decided that if I get a new one that is the one I want. I agree with all the cons in this review 100%! Only thing you left out that we've experienced is some clothes even being torn up occasionally. And the severe twisting of items sometimes makes other clothes, that wouldn't normally need to be ironed, a mess! Sick and tired of spending so much time rewashing loads because of lint and them still not coming out any better. 😡

I had the Maytag MVWB765 4.7 cu. ft. version of this machine with the "PowerWash" Agitator, a fancy word for "a washplate with a spiral plastic stick coming outta the center". I absolutely HATED this machine sooo much that I got rid of it, got a used 2005 Whirlpool Direct Drive, replaced the coupler, clutch, and pump and it works like a charm. I plan on keeping this DD machine running as long as I can get my hands on the parts to do so... Unless I'm forced to, I'll have no part of this "HE" crap that takes over an hour and does NOT get clothes clean!

Kirk Rivas is testing out the 865 right now, and I can't help but be reminded of the horrible performance this one gave you on every load (especially the work pants load). So far, on both loads he's tested, his is doing just about as pathetic as yours did (even with his deeper fill, it still really doesn't turn over anything with the way the agitator just moves back and forth). It's really because of people like you and Kirk that I know what to avoid should I ever have to buy a washer. Seriously, thanks a lot!

Just got rid of this exact washing machine! The worst machine on the planet - the impeller fins are too short and there aren’t enough of them to catch the clothes. This machine is highly effective washing 3 or 4 pieces of clothes - so if you love taking 15 hours to do your laundry then by all means! The water usage was abysmal. Clothes dry-out mid-cycle. Anyone who says they love this machine is lying. At least the LG DirectDrive spins mid-wash getting all clothes wet and soapy. Just replaced it with a GE UltraFresh Vent System front loader and couldn’t be happier.

I saw several videos of that washer when Kirk Rivas was testing it out. I'm not sure what he thought about that washer but when I was watching the video of it in action I was feeling like "What in the Sam Hill was Maytag thinking?? I grew up loving Maytag washers and even watched their commercials back then in the 90s. But for them to even set foot into creating a washer like that is just beyond crazy." I LOVE the Maytag Commercial washer. I even saw one in person at a PC Richard's store here in the Bronx and I was like "Oh my God!! This is the washer I watched on KZbin!!" Now imagine my parents buying that washer, they would have a fit!! Especially my father. Maytag should be ashamed of themselves of creating a mediocre washer like that and for consumers to give that kind of washer brownie points over Speed Queen has got me floored. Wow.

Eugene i totally agree, that's what i've been trying to tell eveybody is the new speed queen is not as bad as the new whirlpool and maytags, i just bought a tr5 and it has been doing pretty good, does it get out stains as good as my lg front load? No, but the lg is more than twice as long as far as cycle times. Speed queen is still a decent machine. Ive posted pics of my stain test on aw.org

Thank you so much for your review and your channel. I'm about to cancel my order for a Maytag MVWB855DC from 2016 that was on clearance (along with an overpriced Samsung dryer that sort of matched and was the same price) I have been doing homework on washers and dryers for almost 2 days now and it's getting ridiculous - to the point where I an suspicious about what is going on in the industry. I JUST came across this video (and I saw your commercial speed queen and maytag videos first!) Before I finally came across this video which is reviewing the initial washer I was trying to look info up for. And that only happened because a friend warned me about Samsung dryers! I'll admit - I had one number wrong in the model number when searching it (885 instead of 855), but even looking through my appliance store's review of the exact model - somehow they were overwhelmingly positive? Look up my machine model on Orville's appliances, and there are about 1,000 reviews that genuinely don't even seem fake (pretty well worded, albeit some not very descriptive) and there is a 4.2 average score out of 5 stars for this thing. I did see that some reviews were for a "paid promotion" however. And all of the reviews apparently were from whirlpools website. It's all very strange, from this federal standards, to how over-engineered everything is - to how old school style washers like the commercial speedqueen are $1000, looking incredibly bland with old tech and small load capacity. I mean I can understand making your products shitty or not durable because there's a lot less money to be made if your products last like 30 years - but the cover up and lies there seem to be for these top loading HE machines seem almost illegal. Such as fraudulent reviews and cover ups on true reviews. And what you said about consumer reports. There could be a real legal case here. I'm also pissed off that the salesman at the shop was so content in selling me this thing, when he seemed to know a lot about washers. But he even said that these impeller machines do almost the exact same thing as agitators and the agitators are moreso for show these days. Maybe he's inferring to these sort of maytags that have the tiny agitator option, but I'm not sure. I feel like I really got played. But either way thanks so much for your videos. I'm only 25 and just bought a new house to care for my dad who now has incontinence issues. I need something seriously heavy duty that can wash soiled garmets, and I was leaning toward the maytag commercial due to its reasonable price point. But also I'm wary of this company's tactics now so I don't know. If anyone has any suggestions for my situation please let me know. Even an amana with the agitator function seems alright but those are out of stock for months here.

Get a Maytag commercial or the Speed Queen commercial TC5 (avoid the TR5). Even better if you can find a 2017 or earlier Speed Queen, but they are sought after and hard (though not impossible) to find. The Amana is a decent, cheap option. Or find a good, reconditioned direct drive machine, look at Eugene's reviews to get an idea of his faves. Challenge here is finding a place/person that you trust to sell you one in good condition or do quality work to tune it up for many more years service. You can find used Speed Queen laundromat models also. They are ugly, have the coin box, and will have done hard duty and so may need repair/reconditioning. But that's one option if you stumble across one for a decent price. They are workhorses and if tuned up will continue to trundle along for years. The con for me with the Maytag commercial is that it doesn't allow untempered hot water fill like the SQ does. Some people don't care about that, and a workaround would be to position the machine next to a set tub and hook a short hose up to the faucet to hand fill the tub with whatever damn temp water you want. A bit of a hassle but it would solve that issue if you otherwise like the Maytag. There are good front load options too, check out what this channel recommends.

Thank you for offering your videos I have watch your videos for almost a year now and they are extremely informative and fun to watch. I have been sacrificing and washing at my in building laundry mat for almost a year now because I refuse to buy something that is not of quality in a waste of money. Unfortunately I am unable to visit your store I live in New York City, But I definitely would have trusted to purchase something from Lorain appliance center. I am reaching out today to ask if you could offer any advice and or help on which Washer to purchase. I am undecided whether If I should buy a used washer or a brand new older model washer (Maytag GW model) I am not intrested in all the Bells and whistles that these new models come with. I am more intrested in a durable model that does the job for me and my family of 3. And that offers sufficient water . As I do not pay for water here in my nyc apt bldg..I would love to be able to wash my king size comforter But I would not want to sacrifice with a bigger machine that's a newer model for less durability and longevity with a older model. I am pretty much sold on your Maytag GW model. But before I purchase I wanted to reach out to you before I finally make this purchases. Since I live in an apartment in New York City space is a factor. In addition I eventually but very soon after, I need to treat myself and purchase a dryer as well for the 1st time. if you have any advice for me please help thank you so much for your informative videos. First off, Consumer Reports is a flat out joke of an organization. I canceled my online subscription a few months ago. Half they stuff you're looking for, they don't even test, so what's the point? Secondly, there isn't an impeller machine I've seen to date that washes worth a damn. You absolutely cannot wash without plenty of water and turnover of the objects. Lastly, I own the Maytag MVWP575GW that is mentioned. It's a real Maytag. No fancy electronic control panel, a full tub of water, a real agitator and everything I've run through it has come clean completely. And I got it for the same price, $699. And it's a Maytag commercial line washer. It weighs 170 lbs because it's made like a tank. Box stores don't sell them, so you'll have to look hard for one. It'll be worth it. Remember the model number... Maytag MVWP575GW

Also note with these and the smaller capacity versions of this, and lets say we have the washer spin speed selected to high, 850 rpms "altough when it should have stayed at 1000 like the older versions with the taller wahsplate" but back to this model we have the spin speed selected to high-850 rpm and we pause the washer at any part of the cycle, the final spin will no longer do high-850 rpms so if you want it to spin at max speed, do not pause the washer otherwise you will need to restart it and waste water... and also like i said before thos model is to high ebd if a model to be spinnibg at 850 rpms. That is just a lousy 50 rpms faster than the 2010-2014 mid grade washplate vmw's... this needs to spin at 1000 rpm and not change the spin speed when paused... also, i do not k ow what the problem is with these companies nowadays, they mane the washplate turn ridiculously slow which does not clean well... i sold this exact model after i fixed it up and the customer brought it back to me and exchanged it with a direct drive 90 series kenmore, because this model was not cleaning her clothes... when i ran it after i got it back, it did not fill up as much as the vmw versions of these does... i also tested a lg wave force and it acted like an agitator making shorter turns and the washplate was not able to do anything with thise short of agitation turnes... now, lg makes the tub index which takes power away from the agitating system... washers made today suck! And i do not expect then to change either... i just expect then to get worse as time goes on...

Thank gawd ... our MVWB needed another repair, and it gave us a chance to get rid of it for good! While I can't say we specifically had issues with this washer not getting our clothes clean, I can say it was a total dud! When you illustrated the scrub board, I have to laugh because I told my wife that it would be better than this piece of crap. We did buy this because of its rather large 5.2 cu ft capacity. At the time we had two handicapped boys (young men actually), and we ended up washing a lot of sheets, b adding, and duvets. We thought this would be great for us. Well, all the laundry fits in there, but the machine took forever to finish a load (if it even finished it). It would typically give us an estimated time of 1 hour 28 minutes to complete a cycle. Most times, this would amount to over two hours, then it would signal that "it could not complete the cycle", and we would have to take all the wet clothes out, redistribute them, and then run the machine through another 17 minute rinse and spin cycle. So a load of laundry (if you were doing sheets) typically took about 2 1/2 hours. It would even do this to small loads. When you typically do 3 to 4 loads of laundry every day, this is totally unacceptable. We would throw our first load in at about 9:00 a.m, and we would still be doing laundry at 4:00 p.m. Everyday! About three years ago the motor started leaking, and we had that repaired - probably normal after about eight years of doing 4 loads of laundry every day. During COVID, we got a failure code that required a circuit board replacement. That took over a month to source, and we got the wrong one sent in. And another two week wait. We were hoping they would give up and get us another new machine (we had a 10 year warranty). But no - Maytag policy was to repair it. Just last week, we got another code: LF, which would not allow water to enter the machine. I know we could have repaired it, but we (and especially my wife) had had enough. Our new machine arrives Tuesday. This will be our first front load machine - I hope we made the right move! Great video by the way (even if it is 4 years old). It was spot on. I don't know if they still sell this POS, but if they do ... DO NOT BUY IT!!!!

These machines are all style and no substance. They look nice, but they don't do what they are supposed to do. Appliance manufacturers need to start improving the quality of their products, because if they don't, there will more than likely be a class action lawsuit against these machines.

Been in the business for decades. My advice- find a used whirlpool direct drive top loader. Quit producing them in 2010/11 because of the bs federal energy guidelines. This model typically last 20-30 years, work like tanks and very reliable. Plus, no annoying $300-$400 computer boards.

We have this washer and we are sooo disappointed. Multiple service calls under the 10 year warranty and the motor has been replaced 3 times. The tub has even been replaced once! We purchased it in 2014/15. Sadly I had a 13 year old Maytag Neptune from 2001 that I loved, but the people who bought our home asked us to leave it so we though ok no problem we’ll just get another Maytag since they are so reliable. Little did we know... I’ve started rinsing clothes in our utility sink just to make sure the soap is fully removed. And that’s after an extra rinse cycle in this sad excuse for a washer. I’ve started to wonder if the dishwasher would do a better job than this.... We bought it for the XL (commercial) capacity. Sadly you cannot wash that much in it and even with a normal sized load it never actually cleans the clothes. We usually use the deep water cycle or the power wash cycle and bedding for towels and blankets but we’re still shocked that our clothes are not getting clean. I use TIDE HE or Persil exclusively. I’ve tried vinegar rinses. I clean it monthly with that washer cleaner tab. Does not solve the clean clothes issue. We’re not throwing mud soaked clothes into this machine. I’m talking about a normal sized family of 4 with two office working adults and two kids in school type of dirt. Should be easy for any machine of decent quality to adequately clean what we’re throwing in it. If you have recommendations on a large capacity machine (front or top load are equal to me) PLEASE let me know!!!!! -Desperately Drowning in Dirt in Texas.

I have the same washing machine & this is a long story of my 1 like & 8 dislikes of this disgrace of a washing machine. Just give me a moment to load up my 1 like & 8 dislikes that I have about this washing machine. PROS: 1. It gives you hot water right away when you call for hot water. CONS: 1. Super long cycles 2. Doesn’t get the clothes that are just sitting on top of the load clean. 3. Not enough water usage. 4. Too expensive! $700 dollars! 5. THERE IS NO TRADITIONAL ROLLOVER OR BLOOMING ACTION IN THE CENTER! 6. Disgrace to brand. 7. Deep Water Wash = LIE! 8. Deep Clean = LIE! Alright, so my 1 & only thing that I like about this washing machine is that you get hot water when you call for it. Now, onto why I 100% hate this washing machine that we have. For starters, it has such long cycles except Normal with Ex. Light and is about 45 minutes. Other than that, the other rapid cycles are Soak, Rinse & Spin, & Spin Only. Secondly, I always have to wash towels, jeans, & my bedding on the dial rotated to Bedding. If I don’t do that, then the washing machine won’t add enough water. So whatever I’m washing does not have any rollover. My clothes don’t get wet with not enough water. This washing machine is too expensive! One time, since our washing machines is 5.3 cubic feet in space, I loaded 5.3 cubic feet of bath towels, & the towels at the top never go under water like during the entire Wash portion of the cycle, nothing happened. This washing machine is such a disgrace to Maytag because I trusted Maytag to do an excellent job of getting my clothes clean. I can’t believe we even bought this. 😢 The Deep Water Wash is flat out, a LIE! Because it only adds like 16 gallons or 4 liters of water. So that was only 1/4 of a tank, even on Deep Water Wash. And the Deep Clean on the Options Bar of our washing machine is also, a LIE! Because it doesn’t do any deep cleaning. So, this is the 1 & only thing that I like & 8 things that I don’t like about our washing machine. I just wanted to share this with you, Lorain Appliance & Furniture. Have a great day.

Glad I dont have this washer. But if I did and had these same results and talked to my parents about everything the washer was doing to the clothes and realized this was a very bad thing. I would take it out to my backyard, plumb it into the water valve for the garden hose, put it on heavy-duty, and make it "wash" a brick. Then after a little while, I'd take the brick out, stop it then put it on drain and spin, wait for it to reach max spin speed, and then YEET THE BRICK INSIDE, then do that a good few more times, and last but not least: bring it to the dumpster!

We've got the 765. I hate it. I've been wanting to get an Electrolux front loader for almost a year now. The impeller is just there for looks. If I wash more than a few shirts or undies it just fills them with foam. Athletic wear needs to be washed on delicates just to give it a chance to actually wash. It was nice at first, but quickly became a pain to use. I'm considering fixing my old washer just to get things properly washed.

I am from Spain, Europe. I have a Miele w3822 wash machine that cleans incredible. In Europe when you buy a washing machine there is a label with energy consumption, washing efficiency and spin efficiency. Two years ago I was for 6 weeks in Chicago and the house where I was living had this Maytag. When did my laundry I noticed that it doesn’t clean it only elimines odors from fabrics. When I came to Spain again I said family that I can not understand how Americans can live with this terrible washing machines because I though all top load cleans bad. Why Americans don’t buy front load that is more efficient and I feel cleaning performance y al least 3 times better. In my Miele I have Never do the washing cicle 2 times because all is perfectly clean in the first.

Maytag MVWP575GW or Speed Queen AWN632SP116TW01. The Speed Queen is more expensive, but look at the brand name on the workhorses at your local coin laundry. I have seen precisely four laundromats in the past fifty-five years that don't use Speed Queen: Frigidaire Jet-Cone washers in Quitman, MS, Norge in Stonewall, MS, and Maytags in Atlanta and Milledgeville, GA. The Frigidaires did a pretty good job, the Norge was Hmmm, don't recall how well it performed, and the Maytags were not too bad. I had a mid-eighties Maytag that was pretty good, followed by a mediocre Maytag (with the Whirlpool stain), a terrible Whirlpool, an even worse GE, an LG WT1101CW that was hands-down the poorest performing machine I have ever seen, and I'm now happily using the Speed Queen model listed above. The Speed Queen gets my jeans clean (I work in soil engineering, and they get pretty grimy with the Georgia red silts) in under a half-hour.

Not an agitator, but a fauxgitator, a fake agitator. Look for the Speed Queen AWN632SP119WT01, product code TC5000WN or the Maytag "COMMERCIAL" model MVWP575GW. The Speed Queen is a bit more expensive MSRP than this machine (I paid $1029 plus tax and delivery about $1140 total including water hoses); the Maytag Commercial is priced around $800. You will not find the Maytag Commercial or the Speed Queen in a big box store, probably will not find one on mark-down sale. You will have to find a locally owned "furniture and appliance" store. The Speed Queen TC5000WN is a fine machine with good wash performance and an impeccable reliability record. The Maytag Commercial appears to wash better and is less expensive, but long-term reliability is a bit of a question mark. Check other reviews on this channel. Eugene does a good job of demonstrating the strengths and weaknesses of the machines he tests.
