Been playing this system since Yaquinto Panzer in 1979. System has come a long way. Basic game is more a tutorial than a real game; full enjoyment comes with Advanced Rules and beyond. Hang in there and the enjoyment will come!

Great system so far. I'm just finishing up the basic rules. Hoping to get into the advanced ruleset soon.

Great review! I keep reacting to the "kid sounds" and looking over to see where my daughter is :D

Advance rules is the way to go with MBT. I have the first edition (AH) and love it, along with Tac Air, also from AH. Think of the chaos as who had good or bad comm´s, and as someone stated, first seen, first shoot, and yeah, like in real life, hull-down is your strongest faceing. Thanks for the review!

only way to go!

Did you play the advanced rules at all?

Thanks for the video and the comments on the design.

the other thing with init is that the scenarios adjust the initiative roll is via modification. Not using morale means you would get down to 3 vs 1. Otherwise you 'break'. the Alternative initiative rules work better.

Just a note on the Brew-Ups; when a round penetrates, you roll a D10 for effect - it's not how much you penetrate the armor by. If you play it like that, then yes, there will almost always be a BU.

You are describing the advanced rules, basic rules almost always create brew ups as I’m discovering… look forward to learning the advanced rules.

I like your reviews, but I find it odd your basis of reference for a tactical (skirmish) wargame is Combat Commander, which as card driven, is more reminiscent of Memoir 44 (BattleCry/C&C). On a complexity level, Panzer (using the advanced rules) seems to me as a tank-focused analogue to infantry-focused SL or ASL.

Sorry for the unrelated question, but where are you guys from? I am asking because of the Indiana Hoosiers shirt. I live in Indy.
@nchumley7 жыл бұрын
I had the same question! I live in Indy also, love GMT games, very much looking forward to GenCon 2017! Hit me up if you'd like to get a game together sometime, not a lot of my friends/family are into the GMT wargames.

Grant's on the West side and I'm on the North side, we'll be at GenCon?
@dcal127 жыл бұрын
Well of course I live on the Southside. Yes, I can't wait for GenCon. I have the new MBT. Use to play the first version all the time. Haven't played this one yet.

I have this as well as the Avalon Hill original edition (which me and my brother played the heck out of 20 years ago). While I appreciate how the new edition tries to add more layers to the game I liked how the first edition felt "cleaner" and simulated Soviet doctrine in simpler ways. It was also easier to create smaller forces in that game since the new command rules are more "fiddly". I feel that company level engagements are the proper size in order to finish the game in a reasonable amount of time and am a bit disappointed this 2nd edition makes it difficult to do that due to the TOE rules. Having said that i look forward to the FrG units (which were already part of the main game in the AH edition) and British army units. I also look forward to the reprint of IDF which I felt was a more "pure" tank game due to the open terrain and less disparity of weapon (but not troop!) quality.

Just think, when this first came out, it was a potential current events scenario, now it’s a bit retro.

Yes, Team Yankee was written by Harold Coyle. His other titles are also excellent.

Staying back at LR with modern weapons would have given you better odds of survival, modern APCR and SABOT rounds will tear through a tank within 1000 yards or less any more.

this game requires some pseudo realistic tactics. Using the advanced command rules adds an element of realism and any tank within 500 m is dead thing.
@keithturnas64562 жыл бұрын
You need to play with more advanced rules. The basic game is just to go over the basic rules.
