I've found that if you leave Mountain House food in the bag a few minutes longer they seem to rehydrate better and are less 'runny'. Enhances the flavor as well.

Best advice I can give anyone is never use the exact amount of water as instructions say. It always more than required so use less. As a marine and always eating freeze dried foods or mre's for years I can say less water works best.
@inkey210 жыл бұрын
you're right about that. too much water
@IAMCAVE10 жыл бұрын
This is one of my favorites from the company. I always drain the excess water out by opening a small part of the zip-loc then squeeze as much as I can out... then eat it straight from the bag. Agreed, that it is one of the tastiest of that brand's variety of meals.
@Boli42012 жыл бұрын
All the freeze-dried survival food I've had took about 1/2 to 2/3 the amount of water called for in the directions to get a non-runny texture. And they've all been good... As for eggs, I had the mix with sausage, potatoes, and I forget what spices/peppers etc. Delicious. No idea why they call for so much water in all these.

This is the 1st time I've seen someone throw the bacon n eggs in a pan. That's a great idea!!! I've seen a bunch of videos where people pour the water out or tell you to add less next time. Thanks!!!

I liked them so much for a quick impromptu camping trip, that I made my own with harvest right. Awesome, now make all leftovers into instant meals, sometimes needs tweaking, but always great. Thanks for your review, i thought the same.
@762x51n8o13 жыл бұрын
@onehitkill That depends on what kind of camping and what are your preferences. If you're hiking a long way to the campsite by backpack, and/or don't like to cook, then pack these. If you're driving right up to the campsite in your vehicle, and/or you like to cook, then pack a cooler with fresh food to prepare. For me, I like to cook -- especially when being the "camp cook" so for me I always prepare fresh food. For me, meals out of the pouch like this is for backpacking or when u can't cook
@762x51n8o11 жыл бұрын
I used the specified amount, but I would consider using a little less, unless you can cook it in the skillet for awhile to cook up the extra water. Thanks, glad you like the vid

@CitySurvivalist It's freeze dried, so it would probably be a little dry eating it right out of the bag. haha. I don't know if you would HAVE to heat it up, but I don't know how well it would rehydrate with cold water. Probably would take a lot longer for it to absorb.

Damn son! Pussying about the excess moisture on your freeze dried eggs and browning them up on mamas stove!! That's my favorite mtn house. I was watching your vid as I was consuming some mtn house beef stew that I boiled the water on an alcohol stove I made and made it to work just for a small base pot/cup (4") with out having the flame pattern go up the sides. It took a few tries to get it correct but she will boil 2 cups in 5 mins on less than 1/2 oz of fuel! I did however make it inside,, but I ate outta the bag with a spoon made for that. You can keep your man card only cause you used a camping frypan!

@gburke52 GM is a little high priced. I think Cabelas and REI are both cheaper. I think Amazon has the best price, though. Google it too, to check all your sources, I didn't do that, so you might find somewhere else that is cheaper. That's the downside to these meals, they all seem kind of expensive.
@762x51n8o10 жыл бұрын
It's not terrible at all out of the bag. It's not necessary to cook them in a pan. I've had terrible eggs out of a bag (MRE), but these are actually pretty good. Some of the best eggs I've had out of a pouch.

Ya, I bought a bunch of those for a Canadian 7 day secluded camping trip with friends.... The first time I made them for everybody, It was soupy like yours.. Nobody liked them.. But then I figured out in that 6 minutes to flip the bags around and not let stand still.. Most of the water is then absorbed.. By the end of the trip, I had 36 packages disappear somehow.

Great review, other than the intro / outro music was a bit loud for me, still loved the music though ^_^ I do agree the Scrambled Eggs end up with a little to much water left over, but still the best tasting long term storage, that I have found.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated! One thing I started doing, when I'm eating the eggs in the outdoors, out of the bag, I pour off the water into a cup -- it makes for a REALLY good soup. I especially love it on a cold morning when I'm sitting in a deer stand or something of that nature.

If you know of better, tell me which ones and I'll try them to compare. I've had my share of bad eggs, including living off of MRE eggs, which are terrible, and eating a lot of Marine Corps field eggs, which come from powder. They were terrible compared to these MH eggs. I don't consider myself tightly wound, but I am so anal about videos showing skillet cooking where the "chef" moves the food an inch one way, then an inch back to the same spot. Why bother? "Shovel" the food and flip it over. Move the wet food into the dry and vice-versa. There, I feel so much better. You're a Marine so, in point of fact, you can do anything you damn well please, anyway you want. Anyone who, either directly or indirectly, stood on the wall for me, gets that pass. Thanks!
