Me too! Way down in the Rust bucket from the 91 tour is stellar as well.

Great review. Never heard of El Dorado. Maybe a full Neil history. EPs, archive releases, unreleased, Chrome Dreams, live all of it. You could do it justice Pete. So much stuff by Neil

I consider myself a hardcore fan but even for us it is so hard to keep up with all of Neil‘s releases…especially the archives and the bootleg series. Soo much stuff!

I think Pete already did a ranking of Neil‘s albums.

I believe Eldorado was previously only a Japanese import. Three of the songs ended up on Freedom in the U.S. with different mixes. Only "Cocaine Eyes" and "Heavy Love" were exclusive to the Eldorado ep.

In 1980, I really liked the ''Hawks & Doves'' album - it wasn't Neil's best but it was a good album - especially if you were into Southern Rock which was really popular at the time - WPLJ-FM here in New York played three songs off the album at the time, ''Hawks & Doves'' , ''Union Man'' & ''Comin' Apart At Every Nail''.....I also enjoyed ''Re-ac-tor'', it was a pretty good Neil Young & CRazy Horse album..

This Note's For You 8s one of my favorites. REALLY showed Neil could play anything - love the horn section!

Catching up on SoT shows. Thanks for this review of Neil's latest official release of 2022. Reactor is likely my favorite album of the ones included. Some already in the library but will be looking at this anyway. Thanks again, Pete.

Don‘t think the box set is the latest release, Neil released a lot in late 2022 like his new album and the BBC live acoustic set from 1971. Especially the BBC live set is fantastic.

Hi Pete. Amazing that in less than 7 minutes you can review an album or book 📖 or box set. You tell us exactly everything we need to know etc. Reaction channels go on looking at a video stop half way through and go on about the production about which they know nothing, compare to other bands etc drone on for 20 minutes of waffle mainly stuck in the 80s all the time. Love Neil Young. Congratulations on the new format looking forward, will certainly help me catch up on videos due to time difference I live 20 miles maybe less than Mr Bray. Take care 🙂

Never heard of Eldorado ep. David Geffen: Come to my label and you'll have complete freedom. Few years later: I didn't mean THAT much freedom. So Neil re-joins Reprise with This Note's For You... and then Freedom.

IMHO “Live Rust” and “Weld” showcase Young at his best. You almost need to take a shower after listening to “Weld” the guitar is so scrunchy and dirty! Love it!

Interesting set .... bought Hawks & Doves' LP on its and was disappointed that it was not in the same league as Rust Never Sleeps (though I loved the song Little Wing) ... the guitar centred Reactor did nothing for me ... his Geffen era kicked off ok with Trans which I quite enjoyed (and any album / tour with Nils Lofgren is worth a listen) ... rest of Geffen era is a bit patchy with the odd great song sprinkled in there ... the return to Reprise with This Note's For You is just fabulous ... definitely one of my "go to" Neil Young albums ... his songs. Vocals, guitar work, band arrangements / horns are great (there is an excellent live set from this era) ... and, if memory serves, a great video of the title track which made an impact on MTV at the time (do check it out if it's still on KZbin) ... El Dorado was an EP initially released in Japan (maybe Australia) and was available on CD in UK at an enthusiastic price that was twice that of a standard CD for less than half the number of tracks ... it is worth getting the EP though as not all the tracks made it on to the subsequent Freedom LP ... an LP which was much better on CD than the vinyl equivalent 'cause the LP duration was beyond the time limits for a single LP ... grooves got too close together, skipped a lot ... Cool video ....CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland

And I believe that his next album after Freddom (Ragged Glory) suffers from the same problem, it's too long for a single vinyl - a little over an hour. Besides that, Neil was recording digitally since early 80's, he was one of the first ones to do so (although digitally recorded music can sound amazing on vinyl).

It's a good set, especially for those who hadn't been able to track down the Eldorado EP. Like 'Transformer Man' on Trans, 'T-Bone' on Reactor is in response to the gruelling repetition therapy he underwent with his son Ben for cerebral palsy.

Is this how the Reprise label is pronounced? I have always thought it is „Repreese“.

This is a frustrating box set. The first two albums are the exact same remaster as the old 2003 ones and don't replicate the original vinyl artwork at all, whereas the last two boxes did that excellently. This Note's for You is not even remastered - its a direct clone of the original 1988 disc. Eldorado seems to be a new master however, it doesn't match the original CD.

You can buy the new Eldorado master as a separate CD for 14 $ in Neil‘s Greedy hand store, you don‘t need to buy the box set.

@@wernermoritz882I might be mistaken but I always thought "Life" was his last Geffen release and "This Note's for you" was on a new label? Or was Freedom his first not on that label?
