Tbh Jlwii2000 the horn sounds similar or really close to the one MTH used on the Dash 9s. My honest opionion. i really love how MTH uses Metal compaired to plastic on the Handrails. My personal though tho, i wish MTH would use better sounds in the horn department on the HO scale models.

I like it the first Sd70ace that horn does sound like it needs a cough drop finally very nice #mthtrains nicely done. The horns on other Sd70ace's are horrible thank you for not adding to the muffled mess like other companies.

Great product review, glad to see that MTH has made some more recent releases to their locomotives. The appearance detail of the locomotives is very realistic compared to the prototype models.

I received my UP powered by the people 2 weeks ago. They are very nicely painted and a cool addition. I went with Athearn Genesis on this unit. I am now looking at the MTH KCS veterans unit just released. I am sure I will be purchasing MTH’s KCS veteran version within the next few days. However, the powered by the people paint scheme is top notch in comparison.

This is something to consider when they fix the old detail and operational problems (exhaust, DCS, windows) they make it run and look worse than an otherwise nice model should.

Athearn nor MTH got the color right on the 1111. The cab and hood is not gray (Athearn) and it's not black (MTH), but the color is closer to black on the prototype. Thanks for the review.

Nice review James, they look so good and sound so good I decided to order the 1943 at the great price being offered. I'm also getting tired of the fan boys of other mfgs. Always beating up MTH, yes they have made mistakes but all but they have done some really good items.

MTH's models are pretty good. Their arrogant, we are better than the rest with their propriety DCS system, is my beef with them. I just bought the KCS veterans unit and after discovering you cannot change any decoder setting without their DCS system, I will rip their decoder out and replace with a Soundtraxx Tsunami 2 so I can speed match the ting with my other locos. If Athearn had come out with this loco, I would have bought it instead.

One thing that MTH gets absolutely right but doesn't seem to get credit...is the the location of the brake shoes on the trucks. They actually sit recessed around the actual wheel, not in front like other manufacturers.

Hello James, I buy M.T.H. Electric Trains because they have the remote control couplers. As watching your video, I notice that they were not on these locomotives. Did you change them out or were they not on the locomotives from the factory?

they were not on the loco from factory. But I think they can still be installed.

@@jlwii2000 , I called M.T.H. Electric Trains today to find out why they are no longer providing the remote control coupler and it is because the mode is broken. They would have to build a new one to manufacture the locomotives with those couplers or at least that is what I was told today.

mish mash...one company did better on certain aspects and the other company did better in other aspects. That's why I own duplicate UP 1111 and 1943. One of each company depending on what I'm doing.

Overall another great review! However i would rather buy athearn painted units and plus i hate ps3! The o gauge it works fine but thr ps3 doesnt work well with many dcc systems program wise. Thats why i stick with anything with a spundtraxx tsunami decoder.

the side number placement on the #1111 is the worst ever (its not the models fault, its UP's fault) PS- The F and E on teh back are for F and E type couplers engines usually have extra of.
