Hi. I’m new to A9and I don’t know enough about the product. One question though, how can you tell the difference between MK4 and MK5? I live in Asia and I would like to get the latest one. Don’t want to pay premium price for MK4. Thank you

I don't think they sell the mk4 anymore, unless you maybe go through amazon? The seller should know for sure what they have. Easiest way to tell in app is that the mk5 has beosonic as a tab and the mk4 doesn't. Also most mk4's tend to have GVA and the mk5 doesn't.

I wouldn't say so, the A9 is the best at lower volumes, the most natural as it has the most power and does it with ease.

I don't know, never seen one irl. The A9 is MUCH larger than that thing is though and for sure has more power. So I don't really know how to answer your question!

A9 all the way mate, unless you're stuck for space. But an A9 sounds so sweet and does it all, since it's bigger it also has a bit more room to breath internally.

Is it literally the physical size of the room that's the issue? If so, have you looked at a Beosound Balance? If it's not the room size, you don't have to turn it up so loud :p

If that's your worry I would get this speaker or the balance, they are going to hear it at the same point anyway and it doesn't matter if the speakers are large or small :p Just check with the neighbours at which volume they start hearing it :D

I sold my A9 but it was a mrk1 without Bluetooth so just didn’t work around my house or even the garage. Still love the design though, iconic. Good video as always, nice to see the Halo on the side table :-)

Maybe have a look at a mk2/3/4, they are totally different animals to the mk1's and way better and only get better the higher up the chain you go! That'll be amazing in the garage for a polishing session :p

@@Mikipedia I don’t particularly like the A9 wall mounted unfortunately. The tripod legs with the large round moon is what makes it iconic, and I don’t have room for it on the floor amongst the cars. Think I’ll have to stick with the A6 or BS35 wall mounted in the garage.

Yes a Beosound A9 is not even in the same league, waaay more power and bigger and better stereo too. Basically everything is a lot better, but it's obviously a lot bigger. If you have the space I would say to go for it! Thank you for watching and commenting!

That's a hard one because I don't know what you intend to use it for mostly. If the choice is only for music I'd go for the A9, but if you also want to use it with a TV or watching TV primarily I'd go for the Stage. So with out further info on your use case I can't really say, but happy to help out if you want to expand on the question a bit more :)

Thanks, Mostly power and connectability and things of the sort. the mk1 was pretty basic and couldn't be upgrade to airplay2 iir. mk2 could both were ~700 watt max iirc. mk3 and mk4 are with speakers the same and got room compensation added and mk4 also got google assistant added and both are ~1500 watt. Mk3 and mk4 also have speakers on the back. the MK4 is really superb imho.

Hi and thanks for the video. Seriously considering buying A9 for music listening purpose. In many comments people have asked you to compare A9 to smaller speakers such as Balance, BS2 or Stage, but do you think there would be any older B&O speaker within the same price range that could compete with A9 in terms of sound quality and power? How does A9 compare with for example pair of Beolab 8000 or Beolab 9?

It's a really unfair comparison as Beolab speakers don't have a built in streamer, multi room capable etc. but in terms of power and sound the A9 is for sure better than 8000's but not quite on par with 9's. not to mention with those you can dedicate your own stereo image width. A9's will be better but you'll need a source adding to cost. So these are some of my thoughts, it becomes a bit messy when you compare apples and oranges :p btw ease of use for sure will go to the A9 over any of these :) What are you looking at doing/buying?

@@Mikipedia Hi and thanks for reply! Yeah I know it's hard to compare these as they are essentially very different and with active speakers the amplifier also plays role with the outcome. So I'm looking for a B&O product for music listening in our living room/dining room which is ca. 50 sqm. First was looking at Beosound 2 or Beosound Balance but then I read your comments on some videos; if you have the room, then A9 sounds wider and maybe more natural too? And we don't have that many furniture so it's really quite big space to fill with music lol 😁 But where I'm living, there's time to time some used B&O stuff for sale e.g. Beolab 9, Beolab 20, Beolab 8000 and 6000. I don't want/need full surround setup but rather pair of speakers or then something like A9. Used BL9's are still quite a lot more expensive than new A9 mk4 and I'd also need something like BS 3000 + some Beolink or similar to make it possible to stream mucis straight from spotify. And it needs to be said that A9 looks waaay cooler than pair of BL9's imo 😁 BL20 would be so nice but then I'd need to wait and save some money even for used ones. But what are your thoughts: for max of 6000 € / 5000 £, what would be you best choice? Br, Alex

The A9 is much more geared towards music with a more pronounced left right speaker feel. The Stage is a 3.0 system for tv/movies and does excellent there compared, so it depends on what you want to do with it.

I have Both, Stage I feel has more Highs and very forward mids for movies - bass is good but not as deep as A9, A9 is louder and more pleasing for Music. Lets say both are tuned for different use case, but you can't go wrong with either one and both can be used for music or movies. I haven't come across a B&O speaker which I can say anything bad about the sound- they just makes you close your eyes and smile.

That'll kick ass, my living room is roughly 7 x7 meter and the A9 has no issue filling that space at all. It's basically a full blown speaker system on it's own.

After having a MK1, then a MK2 , in October 2019 I bought the MK4. Listened to the MK2 and MK4 together and the MK4 is definitely an improvement. More power, more spacious sound, but above all a clearer sound. I sometimes think about the egde, but I like the A9 and I think it is better for jazz and classical music. Together with the Halo it is a very nice set ;) My only gripe is Google Home. I don't like it. But when you turn the mic off, you get these silly red leds... At the moment I just set it up as an airplay speaker and have Google Home not activated. But still the mic listens... Anyway, I might take a picture tomorrow and send it in!

Maybe it's an idea to set it up normally, turn the mic off (with the switch it's really off) and then put some black (electrical) tape over red dots but under the cover?! That's what I would do :p I personally prefer this over an Edge too, not only in looks but also for placement and way better stereo sound facing you. Thanks for commenting :D

Love your commentary on this one Michael. You describe B & O specs from a fond place of importance. You definitely convinced me to pull the trigger on my first A9. I even scored a good deal from my dealer here in New York. I also am not a fan of the Google Assistant option. I decided to purchase my model without it built in. I didn’t want to have to cover up the red LED lights when it is turned off. Much rather have the B & O logo inside the center bezel beneath the Cover.

@@Mikipedia You’re welcome Mike. Most definitely, I didn’t want my A9 giving me the evil eye with a series of red dots every time I looked it’s way. And I couldn’t imagine spending this kind of coin on some kit only to remedy the situation with some electrical tape. That would be a kick in the nads for sure. Luckily B & O gives the consumer the option to choose. As far as the flagship store in NY goes, Soho is the ideal place for the only remaining store in NYC. It feels a lot like a fine art gallery in person. Which creates a nice setting for the merchandise sold there. I’m hoping B & O continues to hold the fort for many years to come.

ATM it's basically the highest bidder wins on both parts and transport so B&O is in a bit of a bind because they're not a super big company.
