Hello from Spain, this knive remembers me when I was at the spanish Marines, it was my first knife ever, is a very good military & survival knife. One sugestion for good Aitor knives, searh for this: "filofiel cuchillos aitor", is a web where you can fond Aitor´s knives from the 90´s (best quality ever), at the description you should see "viejo" that means old. I dont know if they ship internationallity or not, but you can find there the best Aitor´s knives. Forgive my english & congratulations

Hi! How would you compare such a knife to the ESEE or other big names out there? I understand that AITOR makes very good knives even if they are hollow handled. Kyzliar Supreme Survivalist X also has a similar design. So is this a great knife along with the best or this is a cheaper knife to be used and not abused. Compared to Kabar?

this model was isued to the spanish army and other foreign armies as well, the blade is a rather thin tang screw with a pomel nut, and it's the weakest part of the knife. The special forces, however were isued with the full tang version of this pattern wich is a lot more trustie knife, it was named after one of the designers Villegas. Several spanish knife companies made this integral version (cudeman celaya, esparcia,) wich was known as the guerrillero knife. Cudeman company have develop new improoved version of this model 1st a version without back saw, and recently some versions without the bottle opener, and diferent steels, handle scales and sheats, remaining the awesome recurved blade wich i think is the best feature of this knife.

The "aggresive look" of the Oso Negro came from a type of sword called "Falcata" that Spanish use agains Roman Empire when they invade my country. In fact Roman empire adopt part of the design of the "Falcata" to create the "Gladius Hispaniensis" a version more aggresive of the roman empire sword. You can find these aggresive look in the 1941 Bayonet of the Mauser "Coruña" and in the Knife "Zapador" (sapper) from Aitor and the old Knife of the COES (Spanish special forces).

I bought a Chinese copy on Ebay for $12 with free shipping. The handles and sheaths come in different colors, mine is green. It is my campground knife. I've split kindling, cut veggies, hammered tent stakes, gutted fish, and is suitable for defense and combat but a Camilus Kabar is my primary leg carry. This knife I strap upside down on my molle pack or tactical vest as a backup or dirty camp knife. The fat blade allows for chopping small limbs and For the price I paid, if I lose it or it breaks I'm not worried. If the plastic handle every breaks I'm going to replace with leather like a kabar. To make the knife even better, remove the cheap tent cord from the knife and replace with a heavy para cord. Take the allen bolt out of the handle and reapply it with Loctite and snug it tight. Knife and sheath is steel and plastic and cleans up easy. If you find this knife for a few dollars, even a Chinese copy - BUY IT!

My Camelius Kabar fits this sheath nicely and ambidextrous, which is perfect since I like my knife mounted on left leg and a pistol on my right! A small velcro loop or rubber twist will keep it held in if you invert it on tactcial vest or pack

MrZcruzer Make sure you use it with care as this is a cheaper knife, which may not take the beating. Go out and abuse the expensive knife instead! if it breaks, buy two Chinese copies :).

Aitor is not spanish for father... Aitor is a personal name in basque or Euskera... Aita is Euskera for father -there might be the confusion-. Euskera -sometimes also called "vasco" or basque in english- is a native language spoken in the northern part of Spain, mostly in; País Vasco -in spanish, Euskal Herria -in euskera- or Basque Country -in english-... is also typically used in Navarra and some parts close to the borders of this region. This was -and still is- the standard equiped knife used by the "Special Operations Forces" of the Army in Spain called COE -Cuerpo de Operaciones Especiales or "Special Operations Corp", then calle GOE -Grupo de Operaciones Especiales or "Special Operations Grup" and most recently assumed the name of MOE -Mando de Operaciones Especiales or "Special Operations Command". As a matter of fact, if you search for the GOE badge you can see it's this knife sorrounded by a laurel wreath. We call this badge "La Bañera" or the tub, because it use to came in a porcelain oval kind of badge with the logo in the middle and it was a real honor when you finally obtain this badge and your green beret. @REISOo69 Fantastic, thanks for that update in information. I thought that hole in the sheath had more than just a drainage function. If it was just for drainage it should be closer to the bottom. Mate I'm pretty sure that hole is use for making arrows in the field so u can get the right diameter... I have a Jungle King 1 clone and thats what an ex army fella told me it was for on mine, and it makes sense.

Good review, would have liked to see a bit more testing of the blade, not to destruction. I.E. Skinning game & prepping meat & cutting through bone & wood with the back of the blade. FYI the hole in the scabbard is for drainage & at the front of the serations there is a small flat square section that can be used as a hammer. Unless this is your zombie goto knife then you wouldn't use it for food prepping! Keep up the good reviews.

The balde is 180mm and the (CUTTING EDGE) is 160mm. Blade length is not the same as cutting edge..

Gloves wise, go on ebay and look up security gloves/bouncers gloves. You can get em for about £10. Leather gloves lined with kevlar. Really nice and if the blade slips one day, the kevlar means you won't stab or cut your hand. Plus they look incredibly bad ass. You can get them with lead shot in the knuckles as well. As for where to use it, I just use mine in the back garden, camping and for scouts (sometimes around the house to. It lives by my bed so it's a handy knife.)

I've got a fake one (admittedly never used a real one) but the one I have is an exact copy in every dimension and has a 440c stainless blade. I've found it to be very good. It's lasted me 2 years of abuse in every way and still feels new. It takes a pretty good edge and makes like work of chopping and bush clearing (even though it isn't anywhere near a machete). And is well balanced enough that I can throw it successfully. Fakes aren't to bad a knife if you ask me.

thanks. i found another website called bladesandbows and they sell the fake one for 17quid ;) ive used it a bit and its amazing :D the only thing i hate about it is that when you chop your hand starts hurting because of the handle but its fine with gloves ;) the i cant use it properly because there is no where i can use it that i know of in my area :(

Must say, I've had it for about 2 years now and when I was 13 I used it to chop would, dig up roots and abuse it in every way and it's still a good knife, takes a nice edge and works brilliantly if you imitate spetznaz knife fighting tactics. Not bad for a fake) and they sell the real one. Just search blades UK on google. Fake is £22 and the real one is £64
