Your deep love for Dylan comes through so clear! I wanted to listen to several of the songs before and after your comments, but, well, I'm sure you know that finding his music online is a huge challenge, in fact, nearly impossible. Still enjoyed your review, because of your passion!

Hi MissAstorDancer! Always love hearing from you. Yeah, my deep appreciation for Dylan is THE PRIME REASON I started this channel. Thanks as always for your kind support and comments. And yes, you seem to be right about the difficulty in finding the less-well-known music of Dylan online - I did a quick search and was surprised to discover that this album is not on KZbin for streaming. I wonder why?

@@CalicoSilver - I only searched by song name and album name, but I could only find one studio version of any songs from the "New Morning" Album. However, after more digging, I discovered that there's a little bit more of Bob on KZbin than I thought, or than there was the last time I looked. Regardless, I ended up listening to nearly 3 hours of Dylan's music today! You would have been proud of me! Hugs!

I loved/love this album and played it over and over when it came out, Dylan shows a lot of feelin' when he's singing this collection of tunes....

I play this album VERY often also, Harry. It has a certain warmth and charm to it. Been listening to this one ever since 1970, and never get tired of it. Thanks for your comment. Jeff

@@CalicoSilver I was surprised to find out some songs were written for a play that didn't happen, tossing in some other songs he had in the hopper. They all seem to go together well...

Just picked this up on CD. Filling in some holes in my Dylan collection. Love your reviews, my friend.

Thanks Chris. This is, in my mind, part of his 1969-1970 “trilogy” of Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait/Dylan, and New Morning, a group of albums that were really my first exposure to Dylan’s solo recordings back then. So they mean a lot to me. Sometimes I refer to this period as his “smile years” because he seemed to be relatively happy domestically, etc., and the music shows it. Thanks for the comment, Chris. Jeff

I love Wim Wenders and "Wings of Desire." The Criterion Blu-ray is on my shelf, and now I need to watch it next weekend. It's been a while since my last viewing. I'm thinking that a double feature with "Paris, Texas" is in order. -- I initially bought this album for the song "Sign on the Window" (which I still like to this day). This album always felt like a transition from the "Nashville Skyline" era into the next phase of his career to me. It still has a layer of residue from that period on its skin, but it seems like he's trying to move into new territory. I could be wrong. That's just the impression that I get from this album. I use it as background music more than active listening.

Cool that you like Wim Wenders. Something about his movies just speak to me and make me feel good. I think my favorite of his movies is "Alice In The Cities". As for New Morning, I've loved this album most of my life, and still do. You are right - it was a sort of transitional album. Cheers. Jeff

I liked most of that when it came out. Lots of good tunes.

The Nashville albums were all good because the musicians there have so much talent. I'm a big Pre mid 70's C&W fan and play Pedal Steel Guitar so always leaned that way. Those A team guys really knew how to get the best out of a Dylan tune. I am also sure that Dylan also is a big fan of classic country. Think of the great guitar part Charlie McCoy played on Desolation Row.

Indeed, Andy. I love traditional country music too - was grown up with it. I find that it pops up in so many of my favorite songs and albums.

Sometimes I love this album and other times I don't like it. It is a weird album for me. But there are some tracks that will always be favorites. And I just like these years when Dylan seemed to be actually happy because it comes across in the music.

I always liked this album even if it doesnt reach the heights of his classics. There are some really beautiful songs like If Not For You and the title track which should have been a hit !!. I like the way Bob experiments musically with songs like If Dogs Run Free and Three Angels.Im with you I like this period,( It sounds like you dont like If Dogs Run Free ha ha never mind).I just find the whole album a great listen.

I love it too - it reminds me of my youth when I had John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait, and New Morning in our home. My dad liked this "soft, country-ish" phase of Dylan so it was the first Dylan I heard and it has a place in my nostalgia. BUT it is also just plain good listening. I call it his "smile" phase because he was always smiling on the album covers then, haha!

Great idea. I love everything I've ever heard by Leon. But I've only owned a few albums by him. Still, I should stream/download them and listen to them all and rank them at some point. I will put it on my queue of things to do. Thanks for the suggestion.

@@CalicoSilver great! I have to tell yyou that his albums after 1978 aren't in the same level but theres something interesting always. His selftitled album is in my top 5 albums of all time. Can't wait for your video!

@@guillembg9535 Yeah, I was thinking I'd probably just do his studio albums from 1968 (his first Asylum Choir album) to 1979. I think that is around 14 albums or so, so it will take me a while to give that many albums enough time to rank them, but I will enjoy doing so. Some of the albums I already know very well; others I have never heard before, haha! I know he's released a lot of albums in the '80s and onward, but the Leon Russell I know and love is from the '70s.
