I have used this to control the heating element in a homebuilt coffee roaster from a 230 V 1500 W paint stripper. To roast the coffee it runs for about 12 minutes at 650 Watts. The BTA-600 has failed after several months. I have replaced it with a BTA-800 a couple of years ago, and it is still going strong after using it at least every other day. The line voltage here ranges from 230 to 240 V. The ever changing line voltage is enough to mess up the roast, so I needed to tweak it. I removed the 1 Meg Potentiometer and replaced it with a 50K potentiometer in series with a 320K fixed resistance. This allows me to keep the temperature in a narrow range for a satisfactory roast.

this is not controlling the voltage at all. the voltage is exactly the same as input. it is changing the on and off time in waveform to slow down or speed up.

Have been unsuccessful after numerous attempts at different pieces. The output voltage remains the same as input voltage when measured across a multi meter. Is it that it functions only when a load is connected

Perhaps you don't know that when we change the speed, the voltage ⚡ is NOT changed. It is the duration of OFF and ON time that makes the speed controlled.

Hi, this is NOT a regulator. Regulator can regulate (reduce or increase the voltage). but is just controlling the firing angle of triac and in turn it controls amount of energy passes to the load like bulb. what is 10minu? -10?

Understand this....Power = V x I (simplified version). Now this equation implies that you are supplying voltage at given frequency e.g. your AC mains is at 50Hz frequency. But what if you can change that frequency of mains frequency (simplified here again for your understanding) ? - you can control power. Suppose you can change the frequency of frequency (ie. for how much time you turn on and turn off the mains voltage frequency, then you have effectively controlled Power because say you have provided voltage for 80% time than Power = 0.8 x V x I. That's it....in PWM terminology , this 80% is called Duty cycle.

i am using this same exact controller for a dc motor, i cant get it to actually change the output. i used a bulb and a smaller motor and they both just run normally as if they were plugged into the wall even if i adjust the trimmer, the potentiometer doesnt seem to do anything. ive wired it just as you have as well. is it just that the circuit is bad or is there something im doing wrong?

As always very detailed review, I just got this from Amazon after watching your review, sadly it doesnt control my marble cutter of 1200 watts , 6.3 amp, 230 volts, it does however control my 600 watt drill , but thats not needed as it already has speed control through trigger and 4 speed settings. the cutter stays at full speed whichever way i turn the dimmer. any ideas as to what maybe wrong?

hard to see anything with all the pop ups on the screen ? also when he is connecting the appliance / load .... and hes pointing to the wires and the connection hes not saying a dam thing about which connection is hot or neutral and it is marked on the unit which I purchased but its not in english... there is A/c in and out which is understood but there is A/C in- L and A/C in - N ? now one would assume L is hot and N is neutral correct ? but I really really really dont wanna burn my house down so I really wanna actually KNOW which is HOT and which is neutral ?

This circuit looks too simple for the control of an AC motor of any decent power output, e.g. 500W, 1KW. It works for light dimming and heat control. My understanding of this Triac based circuit is that it controls the duty cycle of the AC sine wave, which effectively chops the power at a trigger point on the power/AC wave going to AC motor. AC motors do not seem to respond well to this interrupted wave form and and chattering / juddering of the motor speed occurs. True AC motor speed control seems to have a bit more thought and design behind the circuitry (and subsequent cost).

Nicely done video. Bought 2 of these. One to control my angle grinder----- worked for a second then the scr fused. The other, to adjust my 120v 1kw water heater element with my solar system. Worked for 20 minutes then the scr and heat-sink fell off the board en-masse! Do you know if these things work with a modified square-wave inverter? Also, is there a better scr to use as a replacement?

Hello, it does not have SCR. Uses TRIAC. The module is designed for sine wave. Square wave will turing the shape of signal that triggers the firing angle to turn On/OFF the device.

Hi! Can someone explain me the problem i'm facing? So basically, i made the same AC power controller as in the video, but only with BTA16-600B triac. The circuit woks fine, but only when i don't have the 100ohm resistor and capacitor in parallel (for inductive loads). If i connect the resistor and capacitor in parallel, im not able to controll the votlage and it stays around 210V. I wonder what could be the problem, because i already checked the circuit and everything seems to be fine. Maybe i can run my universal motor without the parallel capacitor and resistor?

One to clarify that this module does NOT reduce the voltage. it just reduces the power by controlling the firing angle of signal of triac. So the output voltage from this module is almost exactly as the input.

The reason you can't use it on LED lights and alike is because these LEDs are NOT DIMMABLE! The device you are showing also works much differently than the "more expensive" of the same kind. Frequencies and PWM is involved and that is also a problem for many devices, but old fashioned Light Bulbs and alike will work, but as you can see, the unit uses heat to exchange for control so it will heat up as described in this video. Thanks for the videos, but this wasn't the best example of your work.
