-- I can relate on the steering controls. But with a snowblower. They're awkward. Useful if there's an instance you need them, but most of the time it get's in the way. It's less smooth, more tankish, and when you're holding down two levers and trying to operate forward(s)/reverse, and also shoot direction and angle, well, I get what you're saying.

considering this for our farm where spots are too tight or steep for tractors. Also considering this walk behind flail mower which looks awesome but is a little more $$: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enrVm2Wteqhgl5o Thoughts?

I don't have experience with that mower but it looks like a serious machine. Much more blade area.

I have a 2009 12.5HP 26" . I usually use it 24hrs a year so about 300 hrs total. I cut 1.5 acres in California 2-3 times a year depending on the rain and put it away for the year. The spindle seizes up and needs replacing every 31/2 years. I just installed my 6th spindle over 300 hrs of operation. I am currently replacing the electric clutch.. DR is no longer carrying parts so It is a scramble to parts. When working it cuts really well in dry grass but has to go. in low gear for tall wet grass. The spindle has increased in price from $81.00 in 2012 to $167 today (delivered). I've replaced the tires, key and blade engagement switch, cabling, and the usual filters. So not bad for 13 years but terrible for 300hrs.

That is a lot of issues for 300 hours.

I just bought a pro 26 and broke the reverse transmission cable in about 10 minutes of use..... pretty unhappy with the DR brush mower at this point. The cable assembly is pretty lightweight and flimsey. When I called support they agreed to send me the parts, but it was going to be around 8 to 10 business days before I would receive them. The customer service lady got permission to use faster shipping after I asked about getting a refund... Guess I'll get the new part and baby the shifting leaver when I use it. Right this moment, I am regretting the purchase.

Hopefully once it is back up and running it is reliable for you. Mine (2) have been fairly tough and they get used hard. Good luck.

I would add the 34" brush cutter shoots out to the right. I asked DR Power to consider it to shoot out the front or close it. I have cleared roughly 120 acres at a farm that hadn't been used for multiple decades. Find fence, sticks... if it shoots out to the right, could hurt someone or a device. I have the 30" and cleared thorns, trees, vines, brushes... Prefer safer, so put under Con please. I prefer mulching as safer and I did have to pull back more than normal.

I bought a old early 90s snapper pro hydro with maneul blade engagement, removed front casters, cut the front of deck off, weld skies to bottom of deck and boom, hydrostatic brush hog. It's waaaay better than a Dr. Mower. I use high lift blades so it discharges Be careful hitting trees,it could cause the crank shaft key to break. Other than that. Been unbreakable.

Sounds like a nice rig. We have a few homemade machines also. You can purpose build them.

Agree with everything you brought up. I have the same machine Pro Max 34 and a week after I received it they introduced the hydrostat drive models, Also I would add the side discharge it terrible in tall grass.

I just used my new 14.5 yesterday. I remain a little terrified because it is powerful. I'm 5' 4", female so it's a lot for me. I did have to use some muscle at times when I got stuck in soft dirt and the wheels just started spinning in reverse. I go really slowly because it's hilly. I learned a lot in one day. Almost pinned myself against a tree backing up, learned about slope, rocks, if you lift the deck and use the brake to turn it will fling me around like a rag doll.what I love about it is how it mulches the brush! I'd appreciate any tips! Thank you.

Sounds like you are off to a good start. I usually take it easy on a new area and use forward speed 1. I would also suggest practice releasing the forward drive handle and the PTO so it becomes second nature. Let the machine do the work. Good luck.

@@whattheheckareyoudoingnow5672 Thank you. I used it two days and accomplished a lot. One time I hit a hole and the belt cover flew off. The knob must have vibrated off. Thanks for the tips!
