The 9.0 is a better performer in their saws. Have used the Flexvolt 16” for years now, very rarely have had the 9.0 thermal out, but the 12.0’s thermal out almost every use.

So happy to see DeWalt making a chainsaw for actual pro use. Their reputation for me has started to waver in build quality for their chainsaws with the frailness of their 12in bladed saw and new 20in saw which have both been disappointments for me when it comes to real work. With the price tag, it gives me some level of confidence this is ACTUALLY a better built product. Just bought one, so we'll see!

I’ve been pretty impressed with their 12” saw. Especially with a flexvolt battery and a sharp chain. I don’t use it professionally but I’ve put it through it’s paces and it impresses me every time.

@@Turbo.M777yours had an oil pump? Mine just slowly oils the chain constantly. Uses a decent amount but gets the job done. I have the smaller 60v version only 329.00 as a kit. Was well worth that. I use it to cut up skids from large machines coming in overseas

@@jordanalexander615 The smaller 60v saw (ships with 16in bar) was the best one from Dewalt so far. I put a lot of work through one of those. Still had some issues, like the oil cap leak & brake getting jammed up with chips, and did have it burn out on me too, but it performed better than the 20in.

Great review. This is rising to the top of my upgrades list. I have the Ryobi 40V top handle and it's a solid performer but the maintenance is a bit more of a hassle. $150 for a kit made it worth it until this DeWalt or another of the latest gen Pro saws have been out long enough to make their holiday deals list. Cheers.

Tempting, but Ive cut big stuff hard with the 20v max 12 inch. You can overheat it if you run it hard, but if yoh run 8Ah compact or 6Ah flexvolt you're unlikely to get it hot enough to cause trouble. Only if you literally cut continously and hard. Any stopping and starting and moving around will give it the rest it needs. Won't last forever working hard but I've worn the rubber almost off the handle and still going strong. Just the leaky tank sucks, but will fix this winter. :-)

Unless you’re a treetop feller, or an elder living in the woods, I can’t see paying so much. But if you can afford it(and extra battery), sweet tool to have for occasionally clearing personal paths/driveways. Something strapped to an outdoor recreational vehicle. Personally I’m more impressed with the video. Electric/battery won’t make a good alternative chainsaw anytime soon. But they have their uses and this review gives the experienced chainsaw user a good understanding of what it’s capable of, and not.

Electric chainsaws are actually a fantastic default chainsaw. I've been using an Ego 56V 18" for 3 years, felling mostly oak and other hardwoods, bucking them into firewood, and have really gotten a ton of use/value out of it. I did burn out the motor pushing too hard once, but they replaced the saw under warranty, and lesson learned. It's pretty hard to do that anyways and you shouldn't push any saw that hard. I use huge 12Ah (that would be 36Ah in DeWalt labelling) batteries from my zero turn mower back-to-back, sometimes with a backpack battery adapter to make the saw lighter, and work all day. I just bought their new 20" offering and it's even more of a beast. I've really enjoyed being free from the vibrations and fumes of gas saws, and not having to mix, purchase, or store gas. I am a little biased because my electric is "free" (I'm off-grid with solar). That said, I also love DeWalt tools and got their 20V max chainsaw last fall which has been nice for smaller tasks as it's light and compact. I'm very excited for this arborist saw because 60V max tools are always better than 20V max, and I do find myself up in big trees near buildings from time to time...the smaller/lighter DeWalt batteries seem better for this than the smallest Ego battery. Sometimes in tree situations you have to reach for a cut and every bit of weight matters. Don't want to risk a backpack adapter and cable attachment up in a tree... I'd likely prefer the 6Ah Flexvolt battery for this and carry spares as necessary.

@timchiriac7194 I so not have any issue with either dmsaw over heating after a few cuts. You can push both to that point with repeated bucking with no rest, but you would be 15 to 20 cuts in. Do not use a small battery in either. I run a 12 or 15 Ah in the 20" at all times.

I would like to see a head to head style, cut for cut with the dccs674 & the m18 2826-20 cutting regularly as well as dogged in.. it’d also be cool to see how much having the saw dogged in like that cutting large wood effects the battery when doing back to back cuts dogged in to see if it cuts out or overheats the tool at some point. I haven’t had the 674 over heat a battery pack yet tho and the 2826 does it ez, I timed out an 8ah like 3 times within the first ten minutes of using it so I’d like to see how the flexvolt packs holds up when used in the saw as my m18packs that get used in the Milwaukee chainsaws die at an exponentially higher rate so now I only use warrantied packs in them

Twice the torque? Really ? That sounds like a lot, the 2826 seemed to have more torque and did good dogged in comparatively to the 674 and I had em both the 674 dominated it in cutting speed no doubt but the Milwaukee I thought with a slower chain speed had more torque and did well dogged in larger wood and the 674 would be easier to get to cut out but cut a lot faster and doesnt chatter on smalls like the 2826
