Review of the latest G2 Bi-amped loudspeaker and F2 subwoofer from GENELEC

The G2 is identical to the professional series GENELEC's 8020B apart from the input which is on an RCA connector here. The all metal G2's have a 3/4" tweeter and 4" bass driver each powered by a 20W amp. The punchy 150 watt F2 sub has an 8" driver and also comes with a remote control which adjusts the entire system volume making it perfect for home studio use.

Thanks! I recorded this on a ZOOM Q3HD. It is a cheap device with average video quality but it is excellent adjustable width stereo mics onboard. The recorder really captures the sound of the speakers very well. Thanks again.

Yes hard to give a good impression with streaming audio but I am glad it gave you a good impression. They really have a dynamic sound and are extremely accurate to boot!

Yes I connect my Focusrite Scarlett USB interface/DAC outputs to the sub via RCA connectors. The left and right are then connected to the sub. The sub also has the ability to connect 3 more speakers to become a 5.1 setup. Connecting through the sub means that the speakers can be turned on/off and volume controlled by the remote control. cheers

Thanks and yes I use a Focusrite Scarlet interface to do the audio conversions via usb. The analog outs on the scarlet are clean and pack heaps of headroom making a good match for the Genelecs. cheers!

Thanks! I have been using these for broadcast work as well as pleasure and really love them. I could not find any information on the F and G series before I bought theses, even from Genelec themselves!

I only have pair of 8330A and if I compare(for what is worth), sub does great deal of work. Getting sub for me pretty soon.

Still sounds good even when it's youtube and my speakers are genelec 6010a (no sub) and Focusrite Lightning iTrack solo

Great speakers! Would this setup go loud enough for a mid field TV experience? Did you buy this as a 2.1 package or piece the sub together?

The description is not actually true, they are not identical to professional monitors, different type of amplification.

I see I’m late to the party, but I’d like to ask a question about these speakers: do they (appearance-wise) have more detail in person? On video, the all white color seems to make them look unnaturally bleached and featureless. I would like to use them in a non-professional setup at home, also with an iMac, and think the white would be a good choice with the silver/white computer. Yet I can’t tell if they blend with the Mac scheme, or stand out like little Stay-Puft Marshmallow Men?

This is a dry sound with the mic at the mid point between the speakers.

Would you say that this consumer model is a hybrid between a good pair of desktop hifi speakers and "honest" studio monitors? I do some voiceover editing but 70% of the time I'm listening to lossy mp3, youtube, web-tv stuff and ripped movies on my workstation. Will they reveal the low-end sound sources too much? Planning to connect them to my Focusrite Forte. Thanks for sharing!

These are pretty much identical to the professional monitor series so to my ears the sound is identical. They have small bass drivers and are very clean in the low end so I don't think bass management will be an issue. Many of my colleagues in the film and television industry use these pretty much as you are describing!

They have a tight bass response without the sub but for both critical and casual listening I would advise the addition of the sub to extend the bass response. These are small speakers and will be fine as near field monitors without the sub but don't expect them to fill a small room without it!
