So, the assumption is that VMP/Ryan Smith got access to a planned stereo release master that was never used? Or is the original mono possibly a fold-down of the stereo master?

This is an excellent question. From what I understand, folding down stereo recordings was common during this time period and RVG did it with blue note releases as well. It’s quite possible that VMP used the tapes as they were found rather than compromising with a fold down. A question for Ryan K Smith perhaps

Here in Paris, it is strange but some VMP records are available (at least in a large indépendant record store). They say one of their distributors have them in its catalog…. Quite affordable by the way, around 35€.

Does your original look dull? Imperfections in the vinyl? Or is the giveaway the mentioned noise floor only?

@@kylenovak97 there is a texture to the vinyl that is noticeable especially in the runout so it’s both visual and audible
