Thank you for the insightful review! I live in a country where the mains voltage is 110V. I'm considering purchasing this DC-DC power supply and connecting it to the mains through a full bridge rectifier. The RMS value of the DC voltage should be around 110V, aligning with the power supply's specifications. However, the peak values might reach approximately 150V, significantly exceeding the maximum input voltage. I'm concerned about whether this could pose a problem. I've contemplated adding a large capacitor to stabilize the fluctuations of the rectified DC voltage. However, under open circuit conditions, the capacitor would likely charge to the peak voltage and maintain that level if the power consumption is lower than what the mains can provide (which is the usual mode of operation). Consequently, it seems that adding a capacitor might cause more harm than good. I would greatly appreciate any opinions or comments on my plan. Thank you!

Hello WattHour, Merry Christmas and thank you very much for your review! You are very knowledgeable, so I hope you can help me with problems I have with my device. This is my test setup: Output: 4s LiFePo battery, charge output set to 14.40V/4A Input: Lab power supply, set to 20V with 0,5A limit. The power supply should simulate a solar panel with 20V idle voltage, and a max power voltage level of around 17V, which can currently deliver 0,5A. Not unreasonable I think. Settings are factory stock, except the low voltage limit being set to 17V. When I start the charge, the following happens: MPPT off: Immediately the low voltage error is triggered until I switch the charge proces off. MPPT on: The charge current slowly ramps up, until the input current exceeds the 0,5A limit. Then the input voltage sags to around 15V, the relay clicks, the charge process is stopped. The relay clicks again, the charge current slowly ramps up, and everything repeats infinitely like hiccup. Am I doing something wrong? I would expect that the device limits the input current to a level so that the input voltage is not dragged down to a level lower than the low voltage limit being set to 17V. This would make sense, as in most cases, a solar panel can deliver less current than one would like, and a solar charge converter like the one reviewed would have the job to utilize the momentarily possible current output possibility of the solar panel as well as possible. This, by the way, is exactly how a much smaller and cheaper "MPPT" module works that I have which ony has two trimmers to set the max output voltage and the min. input voltage. It reduces output and input current to a value so that the min. imput voltage level is never undershot. I'm looking forward to helpful replies, thanks!

Sadly, I get exactly the same behaviour... I use it to charge a 4 cell LiFePo4 battery with a 36 cell solar 100W module. low voltage protection is set to 11.5V, high voltage protection to 14.2V. Charging voltage is set to 13.8V. When MPPT is off it charges ok but doesn't use the max power out of the solar panel, input voltage stays about 1V above battery voltage. When MPPT is on sometimes it charges ok (maintaining input voltage around 19V to get maximum power from the panel) but most of the times input voltage gets suddenly down and the relay clicks off, then the cycle repeats as you described! Disconnecting and reconnecting the input is the only way to hopefully make it work again (but for how long before it fails again?) 😕design flaw probably...

What happens if you have solar panels charging a battery and you get some shade or clouds so that the input voltage drops below the undervoltage protection? When charging shuts off, won't the panels immediately revert to open circuit voltage, so it will turn back on, then off again when it has a load, and keep doing this repeatedly?

@@WattHour I received a module with relay.(because I did not use links provided) It ended up been faulty. Using MPPT with a 18V panel into 100ah LFP it would work for a few hours then get stuck in a loop of connecting and disconnecting. Reboot it. Would then work again for a bit. Tried dropping the output voltage in case the BMS was the issue then used unprotected cells. Still same issue, they have refunded me.

Hi. What will happen if both outputs are connected to a battery and a load? Great informative video by the way.
@WattHour
@WattHour 10 ай бұрын
Hi, not good idea. When the battey voltage goes lower, it draws extra cuurent and your load will draw current. As as result, if the current is not enough for the load and the battery, the module will reduce the voltage. Not good if that happens.

Great video, thank you for testing this WZ10020L. I’ve been waiting for it actually. Unfortunately it was a bit too short when testing the MPPT and to me it was unclear how good is the device to be functioned as MPPT solar charger for battery. However when it’s 60v input and about 50W from solar, it was “unbelievably” ended-up with battery charging of 13.4v and 1.7-1.8A, well this is even less than 25W output. Also it seems you didn’t mention any MPPT/conversion efficiency re this. So 50W solar input and 25W output on battery charging? 50% efficiency? If it’s the case then to me this is simply useless MPPT. Hope you can clarify this. Thanks👍

Hi, As I mentioned this converter did came not showing correct current. I have mentioned it more than 4 or 5 times in the video and I tried to hide the current reading. I have another module on hand which has MPPT, I will try to emulate the solar panel using my power supply to demonstrate the efficiency. MPPT is just set of values that tells this module to do the calculations and set values. this module has very high efficiency of greater than 95%.

Ah I see, I had also WZ5005L and 5012L and indeed both are generally over 92% efficiency. You did a great testing as well last time with WZ5020L. So look forward to see your update re MPPT feature on this WZ10020L. Thanks.
