The bezel on the sub dials are highlighted as follows. The sub dial bezel directly above the 6 is highlighted in gold, the one next to the 9 is highlighted in silver and the other sub dial is rimmed in bronze. Therefore the connection to the Olympics is that the sub dial bezel colours represent the medals awarded.

Never was rejected because of the saphire crystal, which it did not have in 1969.
