I am painting/playing Germans, mostly Fallschirmjager so i cant wait for Sonics video on the new winter ones from this set, but these greatcoat US infantrymen are just awesome.

The issues I had was there's weapon slung right arms but no great amount of choices for the left arm options. The kit they have sort of doesn't make sense - the pistol belted models can't have rifles so you're limited to what weapon goes with them. There's also those shoulder bags on them that from a historic point of view seem made up - because they're not anything issued - and because it puts a shoulder strap for them on the models. I agree given the only webbing option is the canteen. No bayonets, no first aid pouches, one shovel between six guys there should be a lot less heads. Losing those fantasy bags would have given us six 36 musette bags that could have been backpacks or shoulder bags. I do agree the molding is absolutely top notch, though.

Another gorgeous video. Really love the final look of the pieces. Tempted to get some myself now but just got a shed load of the new Lord of the Rings figures and need to clear those. Great content as usual Troy. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

If you wanna be more accurate for winter airborne just use market garden and paint the Uniforms up to be wet with hints of snow. Airborne were not well supplied going into bastogne and most would've only had their m43 uniform. Throe in these guys with the buckle boots and you'll be fine

I have to admit, I haven't *quite* got the skin down in just the way I'd like, but that'd take more fuss and I think that defeats the purpose of this method. 😅 I've done nice, so fast is on the cards!

A nice group of minis, about the gaiters, perhaps with a file and a good modelling knife could be possible modify the boots. The only thing that puzzles me about these figures is the heads, they seems a bit out of proportions, these ones remember the early plastic IG.

Very nice job sonic. Very pleased to see a blast from the past on the technique front A few questions from a beginner. Why do you dry brush before using the shade? I notice you used a one color dry brush, would you ever use different dry brush colors for each primary color? (For example 19th century uniforms). Which size brushes did you use? Thanks in advance from one of your earlier fans.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 ай бұрын
You can use different drybrushes if you like, and on some miniatures it's a necessity. Ordinarily with a lot of WWII uniforms, though, something just off beige will work as a highlight to almost anything. Which goes with the answer to the first part of the question; drybrushing before adding the wash over the top will help tie in the colours together, dulling down some of the chalkiness without losing the texture you've added.

How well will these kit bash with the new SneakFeet from Wargames Atlantic? I'm thinking mostly of heads and arms.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 ай бұрын
The Sneakfeet torsos are much broader than these guys, so the arms and hands aren't going to line up. I wouldn't say they're compatible.
@samueltyler8892 ай бұрын
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Right. That saves me some trouble. I love the SneakFeet, but I want more variety. Thanks for checking and nice paint jobs on both kits.

2:45 Already I can see a flaw in the sprue. Not enough BAR's and also no empty arms to model them with even if you get 3D printed ones. This has been a source of frustration for those of us that bought the previous US Army and Airborne plastic kits. * Also, you painted the hands flesh color. They are wearing gloves.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 ай бұрын
How many BARs do you need? There's a maximum of 2 in a late-war squad as it is, so one on the sprue for every six guys seems reasonable; personally I'd prefer it wasn't in a firing pose, but that's just me. As for separate arms, Warlord haven't done those in their plastic infantry boxes for a couple of years now? It sounds like you'd be better served by picking up a handful of metal figures with BARs from a supplier that does them, most don't look out of place alongside Warlord plastics.
@McBurnside63802 ай бұрын
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Two BAR per 8 men. I had to use the extra BARs from the Airborne kit for my US Army because I ran out. Also, as you said they only had one pose and I wanted to mix it up. I see they added a loose rifle and Thompson. Would have been nice to add a BAR too and a couple empty arms for all of those weapons.

Curious what countries have difficulty getting Vallejo. Pretty ubiquitous from what I’ve seen but I can only speak for a few countries in Europe
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 ай бұрын
The US, Canada, a few stores in the UK... sitting on top of the Spanish distribution network in the EU doesn't make them all that difficult to source here, no. 😅

You mentioned the issue with the non-Airborne boots, but if we wanted to paint them as winter Airborne, would we use the same color scheme you showed here?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 ай бұрын
Yup, nothing colour-wise changes.
@richardrussell70822 ай бұрын
What's your thinking for thinning your tone/wash with Speedpaint Medium rather than Wash Medium?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 ай бұрын
It just flows a little more easily. You could use the wash medium but I find it slightly more sticky - good if you're comfortable moving it around, but the speedpaint medium is just much simpler.
