Hi Martin, thank you for the review I found it very helpful as I saw the Vichy as a replacement for my "Battlebox" meter that lives in my automotive bag. I know it's not much money but the comparison you did and taking it apart was spot on, again thanks.

Hi my friend... I took my vici vc99 apart and the scale rotary toggle switch fell off and the gold pins came out of place. I would need to know the mount configuration. You show the configuration in minute 13:04

Thanks for saving me! I have the Aidetek VC97+, which I now see is EXACTLY the same as the Vichy VC97. When I had to replace the fuse, the whole selector switch fell apart. Through your movie I could figure out how to arrange the little copper pieces back, so my multimeter works now as it should be. Thanks again!

The stuff that's on the PCB is the remains of flux in the solder used to manually solder those sockets. Some fluxes are not that active to cause corrosion so they just save money by not washing the boards, others are just improperly cleaned and leave that white/milky residue even after they're cleaned

Is that a blob of solder dragged across the traces beside the transistor socket on the Victor (around 9:00)? He doesn't seem to mention it.

I hear you, we'll take a break from meters and do something different. The electronics tutorials take time to prepare as I'm learning along the the way but they will continue to happen in due course. Thanks for the post.

Cool! I've seen multimeters doing the testing, but never themselves being tested. I have a multimeter similar to the Vichi but mine says VICI 97 purchased off Amazon £20. Great video thanks.

Hello, I want to buy a multimeter, and now that I have seen your clip from the Vichy vc97 model Which girl do you think is Victor or Vichy in terms of performance?Thank you for answering my question. Thank you for your good channel

Good point, most of the new videos are concentrated on modern gear which are very nice but there are plenty of people there which still use an analog scope (like me for example).

I'd like to see a video on calibrating this Vichy VC97 (and if it's even worth it). Those adjustable pots has to do something useful.

A PTC is a thermistor (PTC stands for Positive Temperature Coefficient, means that an increase in temperature will result in an incresae in resistance, as oppose to a NTC thermistor)... A polyswitch is a autoressetable fuse... Although the principle they rely on is pretty much the same as the thermistor, however they cycle back to a conductive state immediately after the current is removed, which does not happen on a thermistor...

Gday mate, Thanks for the video. I have a vc97 Vichy, it’s blown the amp fuse and unfortunately the cap can’t be read, you said it’s 250v 10amp, numbers I can still read are f13A but I can’t find that fuse, would you recall the other numbers so I know if it’s quick or slow blow? Thanks in advance :)

It's a voltage measurement, whether the supply is capable of 1mA or 1000A makes no difference. If it were in any danger of failing from the 1000VDC, the insulation tester would've noted a low insulation resistance.

I have a Vichy VC97 and the contacts on the transistor tester socket seem to be all the way down at the bottom. If I take a transistor out of a board and place it in I get no reading. Only if I use a new transistor and push it in as far in as it goes do I get a reading. This makes the transistor tester useless.

Hello Thank you very much for the review's. :-) How high can the volt's be from the meter battery's without damaging the meter, its going down to 2.4volt's, but high? Im thinking to replace the batteries with a lipo(when i have bought it) sorry for my bad english. Thanks Regards Thomas

The real danger when playing with the high voltage power grid is not the meter but you getting electrocuted by touching something wrong. Dropping a screwdriver across terminals is a problem as well because the power does not stop and the metal explodes. That's also why you don't wear any metal when playing with powerful batteries.

@DanFrederiksen11 жыл бұрын
You see it's not the nominal voltages of high voltage systems that is a concern because even the cheapest meters do 1000V with no problem. It's the rare event where a high power system surges to 5-10X it's normal voltage while you are connected and that's likely extremely rare. Maybe explosions on the power grid creates an inductive surges somehow or lightning strike nearby or a UFO does an acceleration burst near your power lines (which does actually happen). Maybe test with 10kV cap bank.

Ah come on people, it wasn't that bad. I rather enjoyed watching how cheaply a multimeter can be built and still work without hurting someone. I must say however, I don't know I would have switched those cheap Chinese meters to resistance while plugged into mains; at least without using a switch on a long extension cord :)

And how many newbies have been killed this way? or even injured in the slightest because of the meter? Don't be so irrational. You know nothing about it. And Dave is irrational as well. There isn't a single reviewer on youtube and probably not anywhere that has actually done tests that illustrate that a design like these are unsafe in any way. You might actually try thinking about what situation could be unsafe. Obviously 1000V is nominally safe, so how could you get hurt because of the meter???
