Thanks for the great review. I was debating about what I can use at home to keep me up to date with club equipment. I wasn't about to spend $2000 for one deck. I've been using serato and I need to know reckordbox also, this will work great with the DDJ-SP1. I love my controller but I have yet to see one in a big club. Its masterful marketing, Pioneer just took the DDJ-SZ and sold it to us in pieces :).

Recently i bought an XDJ-XZ & a pair of XDJ-1000mk2 as a package. The combination works amazingly well. I felt that i was using a full 4 turntable 900 Nexus setup at a much reasonable price.

@@Delston05 yes, if you can use the 1000s well by manipulating the screen the cdjs will be a breeze will all the extra hardware buttons for hot cues, rewind, slip and master/sync etc

bit late and probably already mentioned: they do have easy tension adjustment if u screw them open.. it's easy to do and you can get closer to the "heavy" settings, that alot of peeps prefer.. there's basically a wheel with tension ranges from -4 to +3 (loose -> heavy) there are videos about it on yt

YES! I've been waiting for a real review of these! Nice so it it looks really good. One question. With the SP1 can you have all 8 hotcues (16 total, 8 each side, not 4 each side 8 total) active at once? I don't care about the other features on the pads...

I have a pair of original XDJ 1000's and was never really happy with the sound quality. I found my previous CDJ 850's to sound slightly better when playing the same music from the same USB stick. Also, I didn't realise you could have RekordBox hooked up in browse mode over USB cable instead of Ethernet? Do the MK1's support this?

Could you try and put Mk2 firmware on the Mk1's I got the Mk1's about this time last year and didn't get any software updates was quite annoyed considering the majority of these updates can be done over the software and as that is the case I am assuming that most of the new internal hardware components may be the same and the newer software with 8 cues would work on the older models.

Great review like always but my question is, is the rane 64 still worth getting because I see you still use it with new software and this mixer came out about three or four years ago ? I'm asking because with the new pioneer nxs2 you can use it now on serato dj and rekord box and so those the rane 64. Maybe you should make a video using the rane 64 controlling the rekord box software.

Berner Salvador The Rane 64 is still a fantastic mixer, but only really suitable for Serato DJ. If using Rekordbox software on your computer, then a Pioneer mixer is a better choice.

I've got two stanton str8-80 setup with Akai AMX mixer and every time I adjust the pitch slider on the turntables or touch the snyc botton on the AMX my bpm will start jumping like crazy in serato dj. what can I do to stop this nightmare, please?

Hey mate, great review! I've just sold my XDJ 700's to buy either the CDJ 900 Nexus or XDJ 1000 mk2's. Do you have any preference of the two models? I really can't make my mind up. I'm leaning toward the XDJ as it sems to have more of the 2000 Nexus 2 features built in to the screen over the 900's features. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

to be honest, is the engineering and features on these decks really worth £1200? Pioneer is amazing at what they do and they design and manufacture the best dj hardware on the market, period. The price of their hardware (e.g. CDJs, controllers, mixers) is maybe a tiny bit overpriced for what they do when the main functionallites of these bits of kit is mainly to play, pause, cue, loop and change tempo of a track. Even though i believe the price of these pieces of hardware is a bit overpriced for what they deliver maybe its a good thing becaause by pricng these bits of hardware by rediculous amounts, not everyone would be a dj because at the end of the day the hardest thing about didgital djing today is saving up for the hardware to do it.

Great review as always mate, but pioneer are taking the piss a bit now. I think over the next 5 to 10 years a brand will come a long offering good products with longevity and shelf life, over a minimal range...and that could the one thing that blows pioneer out of the water one day, cuz ppl are getting sick of all this now. Amazing products don't get me wrong but greed could eventually ruin their brand.

So its 5 years since this comment was made and Denon is holding the line pretty well. I hope to check in again at the 10 year mark to see how your comment held up but one thing is for sure: Pioneer is still the leader but the "chip shortage" is having an impact on their ability to keep up with demand of their products. On another note, a more personal one for me, Pioneer's support is awful and that's the type of value added investment that could make way for Denon to pull ahead in the next 5 years. Lets check back in 2027 and see.

5:33 with your 4 taps on the hotcue, one of four doesn't jump, but the button lights up, indicating the input was processed. Does this happen often? I'm scared of these touchscreen cue buttons :s

Hey, I'm pretty sure that's because he has quantize enabled - it's completely normal and in fact what you want if you utilize this feature. My 2000NXS players do the same thing with the hardware buttons and quantize enabled - so no worries :)

Why is judging based on looks a bad thing suddenly? Go to any pioneer fanboy and show the Denon and the first thing they say is that it looks like an alien toy. Also when I get a car I pick one that looks nice to me. Sure performance matters. But if you don't like the look it might not be worth it for me.

Just had my Technics 1210s serviced. 25 years old also. Working like a dream. Didn’t have my 20 year old Pioneer DJM500 serviced. Still works perfectly - Like a battle tank. Hadn’t used either for 17 years due to life situation. Stunned they still work without issue. Cannot beat well built products. Now debating 1000mk2 or Nexus 900? Will never sell my technics 1210s or DJM500.

A new pair of xdjs just arrived here for my small rental business and they just feel cheap. We have several 1210 mk II that are now running for more than 25 years on techno parties in rental. I doubt that the XDJs will live to see a 25th month of operation. I feel kind of dirty to keep buying these heaps of plastic garbage in order to comply with this ill evolved standard. Ps. the 500 and 600 djm were bad mixers even for the time. No headroom, distorting from 0dB on, badly printed and horrible to service. I still have some of them lying around…

Yes you can; but that's not how they were intended. Take your tracks, process them using recordbox on a PC or Mac then using Rekordbox export those tracks to a USB stick and then your golden.

Touch and release is one rotary knob, slip reverse is two steps instead of one. No physical cue button unless you add a ddj-sp1. No sd card slot. The jogwheel does not light up in the dark. No tension adjustment. I am pretty there are more but these are the main ones.

if I have to remake the move I would go no hesitation with the SC5000 Prime because Denon still improve their older gears software and not just fixes the bugs like Pioneer do. and the Denon Dj stuff give your more features for your money. Next time I update my stuff this will be Denon DJ for sure.

:) Well, most of the improvements are requests from the users, and when the hardware/software can't cope or physical features are missing, a new model is usually around the corner. The Mk updates have always come every 2nd or 3rd year and and then a new generation is introduced every 5-7th year . No difference this time, but of course it's irritating if you got the Mk1's just before the release of the Mk2's. Knowing the cycle of releases makes you aware of when it's time to wait another month or two, especially around December-January, when most of the new stuff will be introduced. My 2000Nxs's has been with me for soon 4 years so I got myself the Nxs2's a few months ago. I'm totally satisfied with the new setup, but as my Nxs's will continue to be my travel kit, It would have been great if the 1000Mk2s had been an option then. It could have saved me a lot of money. With the DDJ-SP1 connected and manually adjusting of the jog to heavy, there's nothing I would miss from the NXS2's. The break function is an effect on the DJM-900Nxs2 and for an odd use of CD's I still have my NXS's... I think it's better to be happy about the choices we have and that no matter which Pioneer player you end up having, they work very reliably for years. 2017 is going to be the first year in a long time when Pio will face some competition in the booth when Denon introduces their new line up. Pio is of course very well aware of this and it's gonna be interesting to see what they counter with :) . People mostly talk about new functions and buttons but what got Pio to the top and has kept them there is Reliability, Simplicity and Familiarity. That's what matters in the long run and for pro use. No other brand has even come close so far. I haven't had a single interrupt with my Pio gear ever, and my first setup was the CDJ-500/DJM-500, bought in 1994/95. Still have my second set of players, the 500II's from '96, in fully working order. For 7 years they were my primary players.

dj-peterofficial Thank you for this post. I've been kicking myself in the head trying to decide if I'm going to shell out for a XDJ-1000mk2 pair with a DJM-900NXS2 mixer, or a full NXS2 setup. No one in my area has a NXS2 setup, and the added benefit of getting everyone else to play on the same top-tier system is something I'd like to facilitate (especially all the well-deserved rave DJs above the age of 35). The cost is prohibitively expensive to buy on impulse, but not so much so that budgeting can't make it happen this year. However, even though cooler heads insist I'm not a crazy person for striving for a full NXS2 setup, I can't help but wonder if a 1000mk2 pair would be better.

I defend all my investments (have a boss at home, you know ;) ) by comparing the expected income over the time I can use the gear. A top of the line pioneer mixer will last you for 10 years, which is the age of a DJM-800, that I still have one for the road. Still doing a great job. The players will last 4-5 years and longer if you add the cost of new cue/play buttons, USB interface and Lan port. They may last, but to be honest, these are parts that will wear out at some point unless they are never moved around, except for the USB interface. Since years I do about 100 gigs/year. That means that I take 400 gigs into the calculation for the players and 1000 gigs for the mixer. If I play less they will last longer. Also, this is the gear that I will be on most of the places where I play, sooner or later. It's nice to be able to perform on the equipment provided. If I would half my gigs, I would not have gone for the NXS2's. I would go for the XDJ-1000Mk2 and the DJM-900Nxs2. The mixer gives you more ''News'' and more possibilities, especially if you have a DJM-800, but also compared to the 900Nxs. The day I step down to an occasional gig ''just for fun'' I'd be totally satisfied with the DJM-450. 99 times out of 100, I never use more than what's on that mixer in a live situation. Still, the best with the Pioneer echo system, is that if you can use one model, you can use anyone with a very short learning curve. The little Devil on your shoulder on the other hand will always tell you that the NXS2 is the way to go ;) . It is after all THE best player out there... It's like choosing the rims for your car. The ugly steel ones will do the job just fine but... BUT that little devil will have something to say about that too... :) .

dj-peterofficial So it sounds like I should commit to the 900NXS2 and 1000mk2 setup. I looked at the new 450, of course, but I really want the features provided by the 900NXS2 (and the growth provided by having four channels). Your feedback was much appreciated. I'm not doing more than maybe 10 gigs a year, but I would like to see the mixer get used (and hopefully the players, as well) for our local shows to inspire better continuity and overall performance. I have nothing against controllers (I've used an NS7FX for the last three years), but I would like to see other DJs, and myself strive for the universal standard that vinyl used to provide 15 years ago. You were a big help in making this decision to determine that I shouldn't struggle to obtain the NXS2 players, but be happy with ones that'll do what I need them to do (and do it well).

ddj-1000 is a great controller. But that’s depending on your taste, if you like to have two standalone media player that will never fail on you or do you trust your laptop with the ddj-1000.

so you need a complete new hardware for software upgrades? oh dear. thats why i love timecode. you get your traktor/serato updates for free and it is everywhere the same setup with turntables or cdjs
