Just like Shirvan said; One must know that the author wrote the book with a western outlook on the issue..so don’t be surprised with his criticism on china and other countries that may “challenge” western powers..so be aware of the bias.

There are degenerates everywhere, especially in a country with over a billion inhabitants, dozens of different ethnicities and some really isolated towns and villages, some of which have been modernized quite recently. As for pollution, China has been making a lot more efforts and commitments than the likes of the USA, recently.

Great Britain, followed by the US, are Maritme powers with the need to secure the globe's sea lanes. Halford Mackinder framed the geopolitical mindset of both countries for over a century, even to the present. The strstegy is to disrupt any power block forming between Europe and Russia. The formation of such a block would end U.S. hegemony, as this block wouldn't need the sea lanes for its land based economy . Henry Kissenger followed this doctrine, for example.
@benjamingibson88606 жыл бұрын
David Leahy Britain no longer controls sea lanes and trade routes. Britain maritime power was broken by the nazis in the Atlantic. And by the Japanese in the Pacific. Britain only controlled Caribbean, Mediterranean seas and Indian Ocean. Bretton woods treaty of 1946 saw the US Navy as the global defacto Navy of the world. Britain tried to extend it's military dominance in the suez canal crisis in 1953 in which the US government and Soviet union sided with Egypt. This saw the end of British naval dominance of the oceans. If anything, at least the United States like Britain preserves Anglo Saxon dominance of the world.

Control of the seas is essential. Spain, Britain and the United States were the only nations to control global sea lanes and sea trade routes during thier years of dominance. China and Russia would love to control global sea lanes, however China only had access to South China sea, and Russia has access to the sea, however it's ports are frozen, or located near choke points of the Baltic, Istanbul, and sea of Japan. US Asian allies can choke China in the south China sea. Nato can choke Russia in the Baltic Sea and bosphorus, while US Asian allows can choke Russia at the sea of Japan.

Most countries have not yet come to the understanding the space power has circumvented sea power. This is both military and economic, and for the same reasons. If you have a weapons platform in space, a navy is just a target. If you have a asteroid in space where you are extracting more minerals in one than all the minerals ever mined on the earth in the entire history of humanity, then terrestrial mines are irrelevant. In the past, whatever country or empire owned the seas owned the earth militarily and economically. In the 21st century, whatever country, or empire, owns space owns the earth militarily and economically.

Bangladesh is a country which is so often lost by the disclosure between India and Pakistan.but still it progresses in a very slow pace.the geographic position gives the country to act like a buffer state between China and India.of course India is powerful but I am not agreeing with those people who considered that it's a shit hole country. (Bangladesh).no ifs and buts .it has great fertile land .the country managed to survive under the scheme of climate disaster plan.yes you are right quite frankly once Bangladesh is known for only floods and natural disasters .but the country somehow managed to improve the situation partially. From the geopolitics of bay of Bengal it is interesting that how Bangladesh is going to approach itself within the next some coming decades.
@anikmahud2036 жыл бұрын
I considered that Bangladesh could have been a much better country if there is less corruption,political and bureaucratic nepotism and so on.so I also offer the author to do a video about Bangladesh.in world politics maybe Bangladesh is not a very important country but remember as an era of globalization we all are sitting in a boat in ocean. .if something happens wrong in the chain it partially hampered the so called developed world..thank you very much .

A slight critique of this video: What I remember from reading Admiral Mahan's 1890 book was the critical importance of hegemonic sea power being in the hands of democracies dedicated to keeping the world's sea lanes open to all nations. This video makes no mention of the importance. If Napoleon's France or Phillip's Spain had been the dominant hegemonic sea power instead of Britain's Royal Navy, everything in post-Westphalia, mercantile economic history would be not just different, but very likely impoverished. Same for now; if any modern autocratic state (Russia, China) were the hegemonic sea power, the entire world would be much more impoverished. There will always be a maritime hegemon (unless socialism becomes the dominant economy), but if the maritime hegemon is not completely dedicated to open democracy then it will never be dedicated to maintaining open sea lanes for every nation. The explosive rise in world prosperity during the past five centuries is almost entirely the unintended but beneficial result of a democratic maritime hegemon keeping the sea lanes open to all.

besides, a larger and more prosperous society in the past required a huge swaths of land that can be cultivated for food, and those lands lie mainly in Asia, where they are further bolstered by trade with each other on the Indian ocean, leaving behind all the others, even their close relatives, the native Indians! Europe is too far, and most trade can't be made to Europe without the years of travelling on the silk road, furthermore, the Mongolians saw the importance of the silk road, and decide to colonize the whole of it, and at the same time the Europeans have to fend off a radical religion from the middle East, where there are rules to follow in order to be in the religion, all these leads to the colonization of the whole world by the Europeans as they have been left behind, living and killing each other for resources, from hundreds of years of that, they learn better political, social and economic construct of a being a country, and all that leads to our current time, there is no right or wrong in history, there's always 2 sides to the story,

@chrisafp0716 жыл бұрын
00Billy Are you a fan of NK?
@00BillyTorontoBill6 жыл бұрын
Chris - no im not but I sure wont underestimate their military forces like so many. Ask yourself why no invasion took place before they got nukes.... Reason is that they have Seoul SK within range of CONVENTIONAL artillery. "North Korea has 130mm and 170mm guns (5-inch and 7-inch) with ranges of 25 and 35 miles using special “bleeding” or rocket-assisted projectiles. The black arcs on the map show how far they can reach into South Korea. North Korea also has 122mm and 240mm multiple rocket launchers (5- and 9-inch), with about the same two ranges, and 300mm (12-inch) rockets that can reach 120 miles. Sources say that the 300mm rockets alone could hit Seoul with 350 metric tons of explosives in a single volley, about the same amount as 11 B-52 bombers. The 170mm and 240mm weapons in aggregate can fire an astonishing 10,000 rounds per minute. In addition, North Korea has SCUD and home-grown missiles, but although their ranges are longer, they are less numerous, less dependable, and easier to intercept. The artillery is relatively simple, especially because it is like old-style coastal artillery, which could spend years practicing to hit a narrow range of targets in the harbor. The gunners do not have to learn barrage-rolling or infantry communication or how to read topographic maps. The rate of fire and concealment can be honed to perfection." www.realcleardefense.com/articles/2017/05/12/conventional_artillery_and_nuclear__missiles_in_north_korea_111363.html So do your homework and you will at least respect your enemy for not being stupid. Count up the subs on all the countries...NATO on one side....then the SCO countries on the other. If you havent heard of the SCO (NATO's worst nightmare) here is the wiki page to start with... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Cooperation_Organisation "SCO's eight full members account for approximately half of the world's population, a quarter of the world's GDP, and about 80% of Eurasia's landmass."
