I’ve watched countless of crime shows and too often they leads to a a big dramatic confession or a two minute long flashback to spell out what really happened. This ending was quite refreshing.

I believe that the ending also showed that she can still joke about her previous friends death and her best friend being sent to prison, which can show how messed up she is after what her mother did.

Talitha needed to know that Cleo believed she was not guilty, not just that she was following the proper legal process by defending her anyway. Towards the end of Episode 3 she asked Cleo “Do you believe me?”, and Cleo had not given her an answer; her response suggested doubt, just as in the final scene. Talitha tests Cleo in a similar teasing manner elsewhere. Talitha “is what she is and she made me laugh, but she is no bullshitter” as Troy Manners astutely observes. She never makes excuses for herself, whilst Dhillon frequently does (as his mother had done before). Celine Buckens’s portrayal of Talitha is the best thing about “Showtrial”.

I quite like the ending, I think that the way this show works is it gets you to pick a side, and I think that revealing whether she was guilty or not kind or ruins that

Yes that’s a really good point, I love that essentially the audience has the responsibility for deciding the out come in their own minds.

Timestamps needed! Talks about ending is at 5:55 and it answers nothing about the ending. :)

Yes I was dissatisfied with the ending. Spot on. That’s why I searched to see if anymore insight was given about Dillon. I felt sorry for both of them. My background is from a different abusive upbringing.

hey Jonathan. respect. i've seen the first 2 episodes. you give the series a 9/10, me too. nevertheless i think the shots are a little long & not very alert (i always fell asleep while watching it). i am a belgian guy : you understand i'm proud because Céline is doing a great performance in Showtrial. greetz ,Jonathan !

Are they suggesting Talitha,s mother committed suicide when Cleo talk about draining the lake infront of Cambell,s house ?

I don't think so, if they did it wasn't very obvious for such a dramatic twist.

No, she is referring to his desire to kill Cleo for exposing their family secrets.

Evening - good review and I actually thought Cassidy was a very good depiction of a particular kind of detective, determined to be right even if it means the wrong person being banged up. Horrible woman but these detectives exist. Re:-- the ending I thought it was Talitha yanking Cleo's chain and that the verdict was the right one. Probably the single biggest moral of the story is that surface perceptions are exactly that and can easily deceive us. Talitha is not exactly an angel but her biggest crime appears to be her lack of a filter, being too real/honest for her own good - as Troy says, he liked her because she wasn''t a bullshitter. I actually found her character extremely funny even if her 'sass' was a coping mechanism. Dhillon on the other hand had this whole autism/aspergers thing going on which he appeared quite keen to flaunt to the world. This becomes a pretext and ready-made excuse to explain away any 'unfortunate' behaviours like trying to get his end away with someone who is asleep, stalking, harassment etc. In contrast to Talitha you're invited to feel sorry for him first up as his excuses are all medicalised and put on display. But it was clearly quite a clever front used to disguise something altogether darker. The verdict is the right one IMO. All in all one of the better series I've watched and thanks for reviewing.

Thanks so much for such a comprehensive comment. I agree with all your points. Personally I thought the police team were the least good dramatic performances. The ending was good and I do like leaving with a slight element of doubt.

Yeah, Cassidy didn't understand that she was the epitome of everything she hated: arrogant; entitled, and rude. She had blinders on from the very beginning because she didn't like Talitha's attitude, but that isn't evidence.

I definitely thought the verdict was correct, based on the evidence we saw. The evidence against Talitha was fairly flimsy. Anyone could have picked up her scarf, Dillon had a strong motive to lie about her, and Vendler was so drunk he could barely function when he wrote that letter about her. The only thing that gives me pause is the microfragment of the victim's backpack in her bracelet - I'd want to know exactly how likely it was / wasn't that it could've got there before that night. (Also I'd want to know how they were sure it was from Hannah's backpack - how can they distinguish it from a backpack of the same make & model belonging to someone else?)

The forensic expert did testify that it was unlikely the fragment would stay there for so long, but Dillon's story made no sense. Why would Hannah let them into her house if she honestly thought they had been harassing and threatening her? Why would she all of a sudden engage in a sex act with him after rejecting him so many times? And why would she take a date rape drug of her own volition? Mind you, even if he did it alone, I can't understand why she would sit down and have a drink with him, thus giving him the opportunity to drug her.
