Inside is accu li-polymer type "606090" - this is only 4000mAh @ 3.7V, so even with 100% DC-DC boost-converter efficiency (to reach 5V at output) it could have 4000*3,7/5=2960mAh. But it's rather not 100% efficiency, similar powerbank had ~75% efficiency converter, so this one has probably effectively near 2200mAh, at best, depends on the quality and real capacity of 606090 accu... But kinda weatherproof, so maybe worth the $8 :)

Just bought four of these in a promotion for £17 so thought I would take a chance. They had one bar so left them in front of some sunshine for about 3 hours and all four charged to full charge according to the blue lights. I live in UK so sun isn't particularly strong in Feb so that was quite a surprise. They are very light and not too bulky, about the size of an Iphone. They have two charging ports and they come with a charger to charge them from any USB connection, but I've only tried using one port and one device. Charging time is around 3 min for 1% so you will get roughly 20 mins for an hour in the sun, which is pretty good. At the end of the day they only cost me £4 each so actually seem quite a good buy.

What if you charge it fully *before* you go out travelling, and then keep it in the sun while travelling, either clipped to a backpack or sitting on the dash of a car? I mean, not trying to charge it from 0, but starting with it charged and using it as needed, but using the solar panel to keep it from going down too far? Any difference?
@ccrosetti127 жыл бұрын
Hi, looking to your experiment it seems you tested the charger connected to the phone. Have you checked the charger so fully saturate without connected to a device? Or in other words, charge the bank isolated from any output?
@KandiRanson6 жыл бұрын
Where on the globe were you and what date was it when you put the charger in the sun? I hear it was around 3PM. The location and date are important to let us know how far away from the sun the charger was, as well as how powerful the charging rays of sunshine you had access to.

I'm there, too: showing only one bar under the sun; it doesn't hold the charge, and it is not charging my phone at all...the flashlight does work, however. Right now, I'm trying to "charge" it by hooking it up to a power source to see whether it charges artificially in order to get enough power to be effective...and perhaps afterward charge more completely via the sun.

This solar power banks don't really charge with solar power. The problem is the solar cells are too small, even when they have a good efficiency they have only 1 watt. If you really want to charge a device with solar power, you need bigger solar cells in the size of a small newspaper.

coincidence, i am running a test right now on my identical one es500. solar charger is full , then 5 minutes of phone charging [a galaxy s4 from 70%] to see how long it takes to recharge the bank from a 2 amp samsung wall block... it should take about 5 mins but we'll see ... here comes the results ...well, i call that a fail test , my equipment must be faulty or finicky,... at 10 mins of charging from the 2 amp samsung wall adapter it [es500] was still blinking and saying it was taking a charge so i unplugged the usb cord and immediately reconnected it and the bank stopped flashing and said full, the wall plug was also not warm so i know it was either trickle or not charging at all anymore during the end of the test because the samsung gets warm if it is pushing a charge. earlier, when the bank was half empty on a previous test, the samsung was almost as warm as when it pushes full 2 amp to the phone itself, so, i will have to redo the test sometime but my best guess from the temp of the wall plug is that the es500 solar charges at about 1,25 to 1,5 amp and drains at about 1.25 amp when fully topped off and slower, at about 1 amp, when 85% charged or under, sorry for the inconclusive results this time. next time i ill use my kill-a-watt wall meter to observe the current and watts during the test ;-) ok, sorry again but interesting facts,,, my phone takes more wattage from the charger with the screen off so i am running the new 5 min test that way...solar bank is full, then connected to phone to charge for 5 mins, then solar recharged from 2amp samsung wall plug and timed while checking intermittently for full charge without proper notification ;-) ok same deal, results are al over the place , solar bank power level lights are acting crazy LOL testing seems near impossible because of non-precise sub standard parts used in construction maybe... charging still after 10 mins and often checked by unplugging and replugging...... possible something to due with battery work-in period... battery is conditioning and reaching for more capacity? ...anyway......fail
@GadgetClass9 жыл бұрын
+inspectyerbooty Yeah the charging circuit built into battery banks are no where near as sophisticated as the charging circuit in the phone. When giving power, they should feed at the highest rate the internal battery will give. I don't think there is any limiting circuitry since these batteries can't feed that fast anyways. Thanks for all the results. Let me know if you find out anything definitive.

This one is a ripoff of a Levin (other brands exist same item) 6000mah weight 175 grams. 200ma solar cell wich works well and is splashproof. the real one do charge 2 iphones (2x 1A) solar charging it is not practical in any way since it would take 4 to 8 days ( up to 12 days for the bigger one 12000mah 280ma solar cell) it is a good idea to put a molle strap on the hole to hang it from a backpack keeping it facing outside. This video shows a copy wich is obviously not the same material, on mine I was not able to dismantle or open, all the body feels rubber-ish, it bounce a little when it falls on the floor. one year no problem with the 6000 so I purchased a 12000 wich double volume and weight. both can light up the last led with 3 hours in the sun. Solar charging is much better when the battery is void than nearly full. When asked questions the Levin guy answered that you'd better not solar charge if battery is 3 or 4 leds on. Solar charge is better when void, or one led or two leds. the battery can not gather light power if it is plugged either to the wall or charging a device, solar charging works only when nothing is plugged.
